Re: GL1500 Starter issue....

Same type of issue was driving me nuts also. Took out the starter, which is a giant project in its own right, and opened it up. Full of graphite dust. Brushes worn down. Put in new brushes and cleaned thoroughly. Has performed like a new starter ever since. Be advised, the reinstall of the starter i...

Replaced my radio. Clock still works as well as the pressure read outs from the air ride and compressor.

I have also heard that '95 and later are part of the upgrade. I now have a '97 and it runs like a gem.

Re: Rebuilding GL1500 Engine

Gear noise at idle....on the early 1500 engines there was the noted 3-4 gear problem. It would seem to always start as noise at idle and get progressively worse. Running would pop out of 3rd gear try to get into 4th. Problem was fixed in older bikes with better parts in the forks and gear selectors....

Have tried others over the years and always end up going right back to the OEM.

Re: Painting the 1500

Excellent job! I just did my '90 Aspencade with a full repaint and parts repair also. I will never forgive my daughter for saying, "you know dad, since you do not like the original color, now would be a good time to repaint the bike" when I was putting in a new engine. Never imagined how m...

Re: Repair Shop

I just had my bike in there for carb work. Made an appointment for a Thursday. Two weeks later they finally got to my bike. Never called to say they were running behind. Said they got back logged. Their mechanic seems to know the wings very well. Prices are average for a private shop. Always seem to...

Re: Got a free 2002 Gl1800 today!

After "It's running", I am surprised that no one ran out the obvious...change the timing belt. No Idea of when last did or what this fantastic mechanic might have done to it. Timing belt or the tensioners goes it takes the whole engine with them. Rebuilding a neglected bike is mostly about...

Boy, deja-vu all over again. I have the exact same problem. Posted same symptoms a couple of months ago. Purrs like a kitten at idle but bogs down as soon as a load or acceleration is placed on motor. If you find a cure, please let me know what you did. Planning on taking it to a specialty Wing shop...

Bogging at bit less than half throttle

Bogging down bad when opening the throttle past a bit less than half. Bike starts up in first (although feels weak) get thru to 2nd then have to start fidgeting with the throttle softly to get to 4K shift to 3rd. From 3rd and 4th impossible to get the bike up to 3K. When the throttle is pushed wide ...

Re: Wanting to stall without full choke

Thanks. I just tested the petcock and it holds vacuum just fine. Put a vacuum line and gauge on the line to the petcock and it comes back with 15 to 25 lbs depending on engine rpm. Put vacuum on petcock and ran without the original line. Ran fine after warm up. However kept it at 1000 to 1200 rpm an...

Wanting to stall without full choke

I am about at my wits end. Took the beast out for a test run yesterday after rebuilding most everything. After warm up was initially able to get the RPM's to hold at 1000 at stops without stalling. Rode for about 15 miles when engine started surging badly. Stall when clutch pulled in. Had to pull ou...

Re: GoldwingHID headlight failed

Just upgraded to the SoCal LED.
My word what a difference.
I urge anyone to invest in this upgrade and add in the position lights with it.
Also recommend replacing the High and Low and Position relays with new.
Mine were causing problems at first until I replaced all relays with new.

Re: Loud clunk after take off

There is a small bushing that is in the front brake where the caliper attaches to the fork.
Mine was missing when I got the bike. Got intermittent clunks.
Could not find a replacement anywhere so had a buddy at a machine shop make me up one.
Problem solved.
Upper attachment point.

After putting on the Austone taxi tire, I am getting a very slight rub on the upper inner fender. Re: Doing the timing belts!

If within your budget I would recommend also changing out the tensioners. Another part that if it goes will more than likely take out the whole engine.

I am obsessed with preventative maintenance. While in there I figure might as well take care of anything that could be considered consumable.
