Re: Fork Seal Repacement

Well hello again Neal! Glad to hear you got credit on the brake pads! Bummer on the wait though, that is the hardest part! I ended up undoing the clamps on the sides of the tubes that hold them in the triple tree and sliding them out the bottom. There are a couple of bolts in the top side and a coup...

Re: How to replace your front brake pads

No problem on the help!! It's nice to be able to give some help back on here! Whenever possible I try to bring the old parts with, or at least look at them good, then check the parts before leaving the store. LOL Makes it much easier. Hopefully they don't give you too much guff returning them after ...

Re: How to replace your front brake pads

Just looking around quickly this morning, it kind of looks like the 80-81 only had the single piston and the 82-83 have the dual. The pads for the 80-81 only have a little tab out the back, and the 82-83 have 2 holes for the pins. Not sure if that is helpful or not. I'm new to wings, so hopefully so...

Re: Rear tire change issue

Thanks Wilcoy02.

The DIY section on here has been awesome!!! I redid the front for seals, and the front brakes a while back. Made it (almost) easy. LOL

Re: Rear tire change issue

Ok... sorry to bug you all. Was sitting there looking at the bike and noticed what I thought was a deep socket sitting off to the side. It was not a socket. It is some kind of spacer that appears to go in the final drive according to the manual. Back apart yet again.

Thanks anyway!!

Rear tire change issue

I followed the directions listed in the DIY section to remove and reinstall the rear tire. I had to have a new tire put on my girlfriends 82 Wing. Everything went perfect. Until I tightened the castle nut on the axle. If I tighten it down to the 65 ft-lbs called for the rear tire will not spin at al...

Re: How to replace your front brake pads

I've done plenty of brakes in my life so far, but this was handy to reference this last weekend. Replaced the fork seals, and replaced the front brakes on my girlfriends Goldwing yesterday.

This site is a great reference source!

Re: How to remove and reinstall your front wheel

I used this article in combination with the how to on the fork seals, and the front brakes this weekend. Great information!!! Very helpful to new Wing wrenchers!

Thanks!!

Re: Fork Seal Repacement

Well, being new to Goldwings, this article was a lifesaver this weekend. Took apart my girlfriends '82 Wing and replaced the fork seals yesterday. The step by step how to in this was fantastic. Unfortunately it was snowing/raining by the time I was done, so no test ride, but she sits better now! Tha...

Re: The Cops !!

When I first got my Harley, I was much younger, and much dumber. Heavy on the throttle everywhere. Had several officers that could have ticketed me either motion for me to slow down, or just blip their lights. Probably helped that it is a retired (they couldn't have known) police bike. So I kind of ...

Re: Riding next to tractor trailers

There are lots of those livestock haulers around here. I have seen, but luckily have not experienced the spray off the back of them on the bike. Been very thankful for the windshield washer spray in the cage a few times! I give them, and any other truckers a wide berth on the bike, using the wait un...

Re: New to Forum (and Goldwings)

Thank you all for the welcome. The Vetter fairing may be coming off. She is not a fan of it obscuring her view. She is a shorty. LOL. The bags and the truck will stay for sure though. She is already planning how to pack them for road trips in the summer. So far she has only cruised around on our str...

Re: New to Forum (and Goldwings)

The guy we bought it from had said it had a new timing belt recently. He bought it as a project but had to sell it. I will definitely look into it though. I'm sure it says somewhere on this site how to check the timing belt. Thank you for the reminder! From what I am seeing cost wise, WAY less than ...

New to Forum (and Goldwings)

Hello all. I have been lurking for a couple of days, and figure I should introduce myself to this amazing community! You all are so full of knowledge, it is great to be here. I have been riding Harley's all my life, I even have pictures of me as a baby belted to my dad on his bike. Before anyone get...

39 here. Our Goldwing will be my girlfriends bike, and she is 42, so we fall into two categories on the poll.
