Re: Finding oil in coolant

My SEi was like that when I bought it, just a bit of oil in the overflow tank. I flushed the cooling system 3 times with distilled water then refilled with proper antifreez (I'm using Zerex Asian now). That was 2 yrs ago. I have not seen any more oil in the coolant. Old Hondas are self healing! I be...

Non-E fuel

Here's some info for the SEi/LTD owners. I had my bike running great buy replacing the fuel injectors and plug wires. + several other bits of maintance. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that low RPM bogg and stumble had returned. I had, at that time, went back to standard ethonol pump gas, 87 octane....

Re: Sticky Clutch ?

OK, I found the problem and the fix. If you read the thread, I had just replaced the oil and filter when this sticky clutch problem showed up. I put in 1 gal of oil...1/2 quart too much. I put in Rotella T4..... 15W 40. What was happening is the clutch was hydraulicly coupling itself and moving the ...

Re: HELP. Really low oil level after a ride

Also, you mentioned the timing belts. Do you know when they were replaced last? If not....Change Them NOW! You can't tell to look if they are any good. Spin the idlers also, they should spin freely with no noise or slop. If a timing belt lets go, you engine will be JUNK!. Belts cost about 35 bucks.....

Re: HELP. Really low oil level after a ride

Yes, as stated above, all good info.... The dip stick is rather tricky to get a good reading. Drop it in the hole, then when pulling it back out, pull it straight out without touching it to the case. It must come straight out with out touching anything along the way. Then you will get a true reading...

Thanks for the pics Ernest. Nope, mine is not there, or anywhere else. Probably just as well off without it. One less thing to leak! That 90 just made it in there, looks good.

Re: '85 LTD Missing and Losing Power

Ernest, where is the fuel shut off located on your LTD? My SEi does not have one! I see it in the parts fich but it's not on the bike. I don't even see a place it would fit. I replaced the fuel line comming from the tank and that thing is a SOB to get in there. My fuel shutoff is a pair of 6" needle...

Re: Sticky Clutch ?

Well, same thing. Started the bike, clutch stuck. Put it in gear and started bike with the clutch lever pulled in, bike moves for a few feet then the clutch released?? Rode about 120 mile, clutch worked fine. Before I went for the ride I checked clutch master cylinder fluid leval, pulled the cap. Re...

Re: Sticky Clutch ?

I changed the oil last week before the 80 mile ride, installed Rotella T4. I was running Rotella T6 but have found that T4 is better for transmission gears due to higher zink and phospherous levels as pre Shell Oil. Also T4 is much cheaper. I'll be on the Wing in an hour or so, we'll see what happen...

Re: '85 LTD Missing and Losing Power

I was running Rotella T6. I recently called Shell USA and talked to a product usage specialest concerning T6 vs T4, in our bikes. T6 has 1000 PPM zink, Rotella T4 is non synthetic and has 1200 PPM zink. This makes T4 superior for transmission gears due to improved shear factor. Also T4 is way cheepe...

Re: jimmy's 1986 goldwing sei project

There is no gasket between the FD and the drive shaft tube. Oil in there probably came from the FD coupling. There is a flying seal on the drive shaft that keeps the FD gear lube in the cup to shaft jiont. Good luck...

Re: '85 LTD Missing and Losing Power

I used copper plug wires. Engine is running great. I also had fuel pump issues. SOB would not always prime. I removed the chrome cover and taped it with a stick...got me home. Bought the 86 Prelude...Denso 9513003 pump from Rock Auto. That pump is longer so i attempted to make the Denso 3/8 hose bar...

Sticky Clutch ?

Sticky clutch. Started my 86 SEi , pulled in the clutch, put in gear and stall! It tried to move! Tried 2 more times, same thing. Pulled in clutch and hit starter, bike rolled forward in first with clutch pulled in. As I moved twords the garage, the clutch released and started working. So, I took th...

Re: Clutch problem

Check that clutch lever and bushing guys. You problems are typicle of a worn out bushing and lever, not releasing the clutch far enough. Simple things first.

Re: '85 LTD Missing and Losing Power

Hi Buddy, been a while. I get the impression that your crank angle sensor is acting up. The one under the timing cover. I can never remember Honda's goofy names for sensors! From all I've read, your symptoms sound classic. Stock plug wires were real bad on mine. I used 7mm solid core wires from NAPA...

Re: SEi fuel filter

Cool, our old thread is still helping. I am now replaceing the fuel pump. The fuel pump just would not come on at times. I took off the cover and wacked it with a stick each time it acted up. Got me home...3 times...LOL. I think the brushes were hanging up, hell it was only 31 yrs old. I bought the ...

Re: 86 SEi Fuel Injector ?

The pump was not comming on to prime when the key was turned on. When I banged on it, the pump would prime but not run when the engine started. After a couple attempts the engine stayed running. I see there are screw terminals for the pump leads where they hook to the pump. May be a loose connection...

Re: 86 SEi Fuel Injector ?

Well, due to a local thaw and against better judgement, I took the SEi for a ride. Did about 40 miles. The bike ran WELL~!~!. Best it's ever ran in my ownership. Stumbel, herky jerky miss, low speed pop, all gone! Cool! I did have a problem though. Shut the bike off for about 20 minuits and when I r...

Re: 86 SEi Fuel Injector ?

My 98 Honda Valkyrie, GL1500c. I bought this before last Xmass with 9,700 miles, paid $2,500.00 USD, in barely running condition. Main problem was, as you said, carbs. I did the belts and a bunch of other stuff and put her on the road last June/July. Tires were 10 yrs old but new! There was hardly a...

Re: 86 SEi Fuel Injector ?

Yes Ernest, the coil pacs do come out twords the air box. I was to that point but it apeared to me that to install the Dodge coil pack, a bunch of stuff would have to be rearanged. The Dodge item is set up totally diferent. Taking the fairing off would make that rearangement SO much easier. I now fe...

Re: 86 SEi Fuel Injector ?

I ordered DJ7036F-2.2-11/21. Had to order 4 minimum. Couple of bucks! Shiped via a slow boat from China.... You can also use SMP-S-1028 which is 40 bucks! Probably a bunch out there if you search. I did buy the 97 Dodge Neon coil pack SMP-UF403 and had it in my hand. No way that SOB was going to fit...
