all i know is when i had my 78 carbs rebuilt by pistol pete 6 yrs ago now, he sent a pic and verified them tuned on a 1100 so they should be fine on your 1100

also a great time to get the lower tubes cleaned up when i did my seals last season i took the coating off and polished them up and seal them to retain that nice polished look

when i restored my 78 i used vinegar in the tank let it sit for a couple weeks while i was dealing with all the other stuff, it turned out clean as a whistle,and have done it to other tanks since if you have the time it works well

hi there and welcome,you said you run the carbs dry when finished riding,yes it does take a long time to empty the carbs four carbs full of gas will run awhile just idling,did you pull your spark plugs after riding to see how the were firing,and did you have the carbs synced after you replaced them

no the oil is not gone leaking on one side, and i do remember when my 750 k lost all fluid not pleasant to say the least

i had the same issue on my 78 i had replaced the throttle cable and upon weaving it thru the center down to the carb area i knocked off one of the leads on the ballast resistor hooked it back up ran fine,so if you had replaced any of your cables,or had your hands in that area you may have disconnect...

you said it runs, i too would try to get it rideable,make one a standard and the other with bags etc,im working on a 78(paid 300) putting it back to a standard,the black standard will be next to my white full dress 78

My 78 with 23000 miles was purchased 2 seasons ago, i too had pistol pete do his magic(best 450.00 i ever spent),i average 40 mpg all the time,as long as i dont run her hard,opening up the 4 pack all the way will def drink up the gas

with my 78 if it is not in neutral all the way it will not turn over, even the littlest bit on the shifter will do this even when the tire rolls freely

i purchased my 78 with 20,000 two years ago, paid 800.00. sent the carbs off to pistol pete best money i ever spent,worked on the rest of the systems while they were getting rebuilt, put some new rubber on her and with A LOT of tlc have a great looking, running, riding bike.

you stated it turns over so that is a good sign, keep those cylinders lubed add an ounce of marvels to each one let them soak cranking the cylinders dry will do more harm then good, try a compression test and see where there at,

what a great find ,i purchased my 78 in 2015 it had 21,000 miles. as with any bike as you know it needs alot of tlc,take the carbs off i recommend having them sent out and rebuilt .this will give you the time to rebuild the other systems, brakes, belts,cooling,rear drive and engine oils, and with th...

not sure if any harm has been done to the piston seals, probably not,i recall having the same issue on my 750 k i went out to a cheap tool store (harbor freight) purchased a vacuum bleeder . have used it on all my brake rebuilds since. also recommend new stainless brake lines, good luck

you can take a rubber mallet and hit the calipers repeatedly and this should release calipers enough to make it roll around better if you decide not to remove the calipers at this time while you work on all the other mechanics. good luck

yes i have rebuilt my 750 carbs and my 500 carbs and was ok with the results but the rebuild from pistol pete was one of the best investments i did when i rebuilt my 78 gl last year considering the randakk kit in itself is 120.00 to purchase, so for me remove the set send them out and when they come...

i would send the carbs out to get rebuilt and only use Pistol Pete, he uses Randakk parts and when you get them back they are bolt on ready i did this last riding season and was the best 400 i ever spent

just wondering if a 80 gl1100 exhaust will fit on my 78 gl1000 i have a chance at a near perfect exhaust from the 80
