is castrol < syn. oil> sae.5w 30. safe to use in a 1800 goldwing YES. Honda recommends 10w30 (depending on climate). 5w30 covers a wider temp range. It will allow running in colder climates. Forward motion can create a wobble.
Head bearings.
Unlike roller bearings, tapered bearings torque can be variable.
Replacing the standard ball bearings with correctly torqued tapered bearings will fix. Guaranteed!
Doing this is NOT hiding the problem. It simply prevents the problem.

Always drop mine to close, have done for 7 years, no problem.
I have rubber strips to make lid a perfect fit.
No spolier or rack, doubt I would drop if I did.

Reset!
Let the bike idle for a few minutes, do not touch the throttle.
Doing this will reset the idle.
Many say you need to let the cooling fans come on then off.
This is not so, but doing so will have allowed enough time for the reset procedure to complete.
