Re: 2000 GL1500 Final Drive Fluid

My local Honda stealership charged me $62.59 to replace my final drive oil in my 1997 GL1500, $52.50 for labor, $4.31 parts and $5.25 for shop supplies. Thought the cost was a bit excessive and want to confront the owner, he knows he has got you buy the **** and will tell you to go somewhere else i...

thanks for the reply bstig60, looks like if I pull straight out away from fender to release grommet then move trim piece carefully towards rear to release the tabs is correct way to remove the fender trim piece.

Re: gl 1500 front wheel covers off

Trying to access my front brakes/nipples to bleed system, can I get some advice/pics how to remove the fender trim piece without damaging the tabs? Do I pull out the fender trim piece towards me to unseat from grommet first? Where are the grommets located, more towards the rear of fender trim piece?...

Re: 1997 GL 1500 alternator rapping noise?

Replaced the rubber dampeners in my alternator today and very happy to report that cured the noise that was worrying/annoying me, what a relief it was to find out it was not something like a lifter or bearing in that sweet running six cylinder! The original rubber dampeners (21 yrs. old, circa1997) ...

In your first pic where part of the block has been carved away what is the black wire or is that a rubber seal hanging out of the opening?

Re: 1997 GL 1500 alternator rapping noise?

Curious, what drives the alternator, the crank or the cam on the left cylinder bank? Bike is still in winter storage and not able to remove side cover to have a look. Also the rubber dampeners were purchased from the local Honda dealer yesterday, opened up a package to have a look and found them to ...

1997 GL 1500 alternator rapping noise?

Will worn/hardened alternator rubber dampers cause a light rapping noise that sounds similar to a bad crank bearing or hydraulic lifter? Noise is at idle and goes away at about 2500-3000 rpm. Former owner replaced alternator at about 75,000 miles and don't know if he replaced the alternator rubber d...

Re: Good brand name replacement timing belts?

Fm-USA, Rockauto.com has a very reasonable shipping rate at $3.99. Amazon.com shipping cost was $10.99 and almost the full cost of 1 Gates T275 timing belt($13.69) which is a bit excessive I thought. Overall I saved about 10 bucks buying my 2 Gates T275 timing belts from Rockauto.com and thanks agai...

Re: Good brand name replacement timing belts?

I have been reading in other forums where they are suggesting a Gates 275 replacement timing belt for the GL1500. Are the Gates 250275 and Gates 275 the same belt?
