Re: Fuel in oil and other issues

Well, I added an inline fuel shutoff, changed the oil, spark plugs, fuel lines. I also checked compression, about 120 across all cylinders. Checked my oil after running for a little while, and it seemed like just oil in there now. I ran a ton of sea foam through the system, but I have this on and of...

Fuel in oil and other issues

I have just recently bought a gl1200 interstate, and while it looked like a great buy at the time, I'm starting to find issues throughout the bike. I started to have this popping and lack of power in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range. I went to change my oil and found it really reeked of gas. I found out t...

Re: Reservoir tank hose

I hear more of a definitive popping noise, not loud, but there, if you take it around 5000. Above that it just doesn't sound good at all. Putting sea foam in the gas and letting it get into carbs. I'm going to let it hang out for a few days. I still have my coolant resevoir problem, so I'm not runni...

Reservoir tank hose

I recently ran into a problem where the coolant hose running from the top of the radiator to the coolant reservoir tank broke. The hose itself didn't break, but the rubber connector at the plastic reserve tank. I know there are probably replacements out there, but I was wondering if I could cheat a ...

Re: Brake Caliper Question

I think there would be a possibility that if I had a thinner rotor that if I ran my brakes down enough, the pistons in the caliper might fall out. I might be just worrying over nothing. In your situation, if the caliper can contract just a little bit so that the pads aren't rubbing constantly, then ...

Re: Fan won't turn off

I've had this bike for almost a year now. I remember that the fan used to come on when it warmed up. I think that's about the mark that's 1/3 of the way up.
How did you run your toggle switch?

Brake Caliper Question

OK, I've been pondering this for awhile and I might be completely off base.... so here goes. I have and '82 Aspencade and I know that I can't change out the rotors for anything that doesn't match the specifications of the original rotors because of the size (width) of the vented rotors. So I can use...

Re: Fan won't turn off

That's going to be fun to get to. I think i'll have to do my timing belts with that project.

Does mother honda still make these switches?
Or would it be easier to make a manual switch?

Thank you for the reply!

Fan won't turn off

I have an '82 Aspencade, and the fan will not turn off. Normally, since I usually ride in warmer temperatures, this isn't a problem. But lately, I've been riding in cooler temps (40-35) and since the fan won't shut off, it's having trouble maintaining normal temperature. This might be the first time...

Coolant in Oil

I'm having an issue with coolant getting inside the oil. Usually, a dead giveaway is the bike smoking. This isn't happening. What we are looking at is the water pump, because it looks like a previous owner used gasket sealer to fix it. Before we pull this thing to see what is going on, has anyone el...

Fuel Filter Location

Hi! I'm about to change my fuel filter and fuel lines.... I noticed the awkward location of the fuel filter, and was wondering why it's in that exact spot. This is a pressurized system, so couldn't the fuel filter be moved to a different location on the line? Say closer to the fuel pump or the petco...

What's the chance that I can get a decent one on flea bay?

I guess I would need to know the width of the rotor when it's stock?

I saw that one, as well as a cheaper option from a company called bike master. Has anyone used a bike master rotor before?

Rear Rotor Type

My rear brake rotor on my gl1100 Aspencade is shot, so I've been hunting the eBay for a rotor. I noticed that there are rotors as far back as 1980, and I'm wondering if the other years are compatible, or do I have to have one specific to the 1982 model? BTW....Thanks for all the help you guys provide!

Re: Camshaft Leak???

Thank you for that explanation. I have a few questions though.... Once the belts are off and your trying to remove the pulley off the crankshaft, wouldn't the force from what you are doing move the crankshaft? And if that does occur, would you be able to use the back stator? bolt to rotate the crank...

Re: Camshaft Leak???

Thanks for letting me know.

Is there a repair for it without removing the engine from the bike, or is this a serious type of repair? I've looked online and while I found vague references to repairing them, no one really says how they are repaired?

Camshaft Leak???

So i cracked open the timing belt cover and I found the bottom section coated in oil. It looks like that the middle pulley is leaking oil. I assume that is the camshaft?
How bad is this mess to fix? Full engine removal?

Re: Rotella ELC Coolant

I'm just wondering because I have a '82 Aspencade and some coolants have been known to destroy our water pumps.
From what I understand, a non silicate coolant is safe.
I tried researching this coolant to see if anyone had used this on a motorcycle, and turned up with nothing.
Thanks for your reply!

Rotella ELC Coolant

Has anyone used this on a motorcycle?
I found this in a store at about $13 a gallon compared to my other coolant, Engine Ice, that is $20 for a half gallon. The bottle says silicate free.
Thoughts?

Lucas Hub Oil

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using this? I have a leak in my final drive, and I'm giving this a shot. I've read several places that you can use it straight up in the final drive, but I'm worried due to the consistency of the oil. Has anyone had success with this? How long can you lea...

Re: Hard Shifting

Thank you for that link! Sorry for the delay in reply... No, in neutral I haven't had that problem. I did have it just pop out of neutral the other day when I was moving the bike while running. Quick question, about the mysterious clutch tool... I don't have anything to make or any experience making...
