Re: 1988 gl1500 VIDEO

All the years we've been riding here we've never done Mt Hamilton from east to west - we've always gone up from San Jose.

Re: Honda Intercom or Bluetooth, what is better?

My wife and I recently purchased new helmets - got the BILT Techno 2.0 modular with built-in Sena DWO-5 system. They work great, sound great, and have outstanding battery life. They are paired to each other for intercom use, and we each have our own phones paired to our own helmets as well. We found...

Re: She is finally on the road.

No counter-steering. it is like a cage now, you want to turn left you turn the handlebars left, this creates side forces which the motorcycle was not designed for, especially the steering. It's ALMOST like a cage - a difference being: when you roll on the throttle it wants to move to the right, and...

Re: Yet another cruise control issue...

Thanks everyone - I'm pretty much convinced that the "mechanic" who tried to fix my idle surge issue most likely did not reconnect the actuator properly - when I get time I'll be tearing the tupperware off the front to check it out. In the meantime we're riding it the old-fashioned way! Put almost 1...

Yet another cruise control issue...

I guess I'll start a thread concerning my cruise control issue. For background I've got a '94 GL1500SE with 70,000 miles on it. The good: * The ON switch turns the ON light on with no problem. * The SET switch turns the SET light on with no problem. * The clutch lever, brake lever, brake pedal, and ...

Re: trailer lghts not working

SUGGESTION: IF you don't have a Amp meter... put a 25 Amp fuse in it and test it. If the 25 blows, you're near or at that circuits load limit. Harbor Freight has a nice little tool for testing current draw: circuit tester - you remove the fuse in question (up to 30A) and plug this tool into the fus...

Re: why I choose a car tire

Why did I choose a car tire? Well, with a sidecar rig I don't have to worry about the bike leaning in corners - it stays upright, just like a car, so it makes sense to use a car tire for the mileage gains. Sidecars tend to put a lot of wear on the pusher tire, so the longer the tire lasts the better...

Re: floor boards on a honda goldwing

Back in 2007 we bought a new Suzuki C50T that came with floorboards and heel/toe shifter and I really liked the look, and the feel. They seem to work well with forward controls. We replaced that bike with a Ural, which then got replaced with the GL!500SE - both of those bikes have pegs - the Ural ha...

If you've got a few hours to burn while you're in Canton check out the MAPS Museum - Military Aircraft Preservation Society - they've got planes from WWI up to the present day, and many of them are set up to allow people to sit in the driver's seat!

Re: Dropped bolt

Back in the day I would save every extra nut, bolt, screw, nail, etc. in baby food jars. That way, when I needed an extra I could find it on a shelf in the garage. I've still got a ton of baby food jars full of stuff, but when I need a nut, bolt, whatever I end up going to the neighborhood hardware ...

Re: Austone Taxi Tire on Sidecar

I just installed an Austone as the pusher on my '94 with a Friendship I sidecar. I've only put about 50 miles on it so far, but I notice no difference in handling, or acceleration compared with the Dunlop Elite II that was on the bike. The only issue I have is a slight rub when I hit some bumps - no...

Re: Rear Tire Removal...Help

I just installed the Austone, and have only taken it on a short test ride so far - about 25 miles. I don't feel any difference in the ride, acceleration seems to be the same, and performance feels the same pretty much everywhere. The only issue I have is if I hit a pothole or bump in the road the ti...

Re: Rear Tire Removal...Help

I went with the Austone tire - 175R16. I actually bought a Kumho PA31 195/60R16 based on recommendations from several people, but once I got it I took some measurements and could not see how a 195 tire could fit in a 185 swing arm. Some people insisted that it would fit - just deflate it and wrap it...

Re: Rear Tire Removal...Help

I just put a new tire on the back of my '94 - using the how-to instructions from this site. The only thing I did different was to remove the rear fender, cross brace, and trailer hitch. With those out of the way the wheel and tire can come out and go back in from the rear. I used the center stand to...

If you decide on the Kumho, let me know - I've got an unused one in my garage that I need to sell. I bought it for my GL1500 but then decided to go with the Austone tire. I'd like to get around $75 for it, plus shipping but I'll listen to any reasonable offer.

Re: Help with helmet headsets, please!

We've bought 2 sets of the inexpensive Chinese bluetooth systems - battery life was an issue for us: they lasted about 2 hours on the road so I ended up installing some USB ports so we could recharge the units whenever we stopped. But then a bigger issue popped up: the clip that held the unit to the...

Re: I'm feeling dark... new Austone Taxi Tire

I just put an Austone on my 1500 as well, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. In my case, with a sidecar, there's no leaning so handling should not be an issue - I'm mostly looking at longevity because sidecars are REALLY rough on the pusher tire...
