Re: RIDING IN THE RAIN.

Also, the water beads up on the windshield, rolls up to the top, then drops right into your lap. I corrected that by putting some of that door edging stuff they sell rolled up at Wallyworld, on the edge of the windshield. Because I'm a frugal type, I just use the black stuff, but you high rollers c...

Re: RIDING IN THE RAIN.

I use a 3-quarter helmet (instead of full face) that has a shield that I can pivot down at various positions. It blocks the rain (and the occasional bug that slips over the windshield) well - and since it's 3 or 4 inches from my eyes - not 1 or less like glasses or goggles - I can see fairly well. P...

Re: Average age ?

I'm 63 and got my 2012 Goldwing 2 years ago (road other bikes prior to that). The reason I bought a Goldwing - reliability and longevity. I ride about 23,000 miles per year and needed a bike that would last. Pleasant surprise after purchasing the Wing - it's easier to ride than my prior Kawasaki 160...

Re: Dunlop Elite 4's

Lower pressures in the front generally result in greater cupping as the miles increase. I run 40 lbs (cold), front and rear, and have had zero problems with cupping, and the ride is comfortable (it *is* a Goldwing, after all) :) It's also interesting to watch what the pressures reach as you ride. I ...

Re: Dunlop Elite 4's

I went to Michelin Commander II on the rear, even though it's a bias ply. Just replaced it after 15,250 miles of excellent performance. My E4 on the front has over 9,000 miles and has about 40% tread life remaining. So I expect over 15,000 on the front as well. No issues with running radial front an...

Thanks for the great pics; much appreciated!

Where is the air filter? (I suspect it's buried pretty much in the same place as the prior model's) LOL.

Re: best tire that has long life and best ride

I bought my first Goldwing, a 2012 model, 18 months ago and have put over 35,000 miles on it. I weigh 300 pounds and live in the Houston area. I ride all year round (hot roads in the summer and cooler in the winter). I also ride frequently with my wife with fully loaded saddle bags - between the two...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

Comfort, Reliability, Longevity, Quality. I also asked some motorcycle officers what they recommended for the best bike with those qualities above. The Goldwing was the overwhelming response. I figured they should know. I've had my 2012 for about 18 months now, and put about 30,000 miles on her. The...

Re: Centerstand

I just installed a 180/65 tire (Michelin Commander II) tire this week on my 2012. It raises the bike about 9 mm (a third of an inch). Putting it on the center stand is noticeably easier. Other affects are the speedometer reads about 2.85% slower than GPS measured speed (2 mph at 70 mph), and the bik...

Re: Centerstand

Here is something I observed this week after putting a slightly taller rear tire (180/65 Michelin Commander II) on the bike. With the taller tire, it's noticeably easier to put the bike on the center stand. I think it's because it now sits 9 mm higher than with the 180/60 tire, which means the stand...

Re: Auxiliary power

My 2012 has a power connector, keyed to the ignition switch, under the pocket. You have to remove the left pocket to see it (just pull the 4 rivets - push down in the center to release them). I purchased the official Honda cigarette lighter style power outlet at Wingstuff.com (part #HO08U55MCA101) f...

Re: Dunlop Elite 4's

I got 10,000 miles out of a set of them last year. They handled perfectly all the way to the end - and they eliminated my 40 mph head-shake problem completely. My only disappointment is that I expected to get more mileage out of them (based on their claims). I ran 41 pounds, front & rear, which I ch...

Re: tires

I purchased my 2012 slightly over a year ago, and have put 25,000 miles on her. The PO had the OEM Bridgestone tires on her, but I had a head-shake wobble and cupping after the tires were 50% worn. So, I tried the new Dunlop E4's next. They rode very well - no cupping - no head-shake - to the very e...

www.tiresize.com has a ton of useful calculators for what happens to speed, rpm, etc. when you change tire sizes. Check it out!

Re: Centerstand

When I first got my 2012, I was having great difficulty as well. Then I discovered that I had the front wheel turned to one side or the other, and even if it was slightly turned, it made backing it up on the centerstand much harder. You might just check and be sure your handlebars are absolutely str...

Re: back rest

When I bought my 2012, the previous owner had the Kuryakyn installed. But the bars hurt my wife's legs when she rode with me. So, I bought the Utopia and have had it for about 10 months now. She is much more comfortable with it. Plus, the rest swings down easily, giving me more room to throw my leg ...

Re: Time for a new front tire

Mountain Rider, I order my tires from Amazon and take them to my local Honda dealer to be mounted (happening as we speak, btw). Sometimes when I'm feeling lazy, I take the bike in with the wheels on, and it costs me about $107 to change and mount both tires. When I'm feeling energetic, I take the wh...
