Re: Clutch hydraulic system troubleshooting

Another thing worth checking is the brass bushing that holds the pushrod to the clutch lever. Mine was worn into an oval shape rather than round, allowing a little extra play in the pushrod that was enough to make the bike creep a little while stopped in gear. Easy to replace and it firmed up the le...

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

I'm getting 14.5 volts DC at idle, or near that. When I switch to AC, it says 30 volts AC - which seems a little hard to believe. I disconnected the regulator plug, but left the regulator in the bike. I cut the yellow wires from the stator and wrapped them in electrical tape. I guess I'm going to as...

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

I'm definitely getting AC voltage at the battery according to my multimeter set on AC voltage. Does that mean I have to find a new alternator? The darn thing doesn't have an hour's worth of use!

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

I just put the Poorboy conversion on my 86 Interstate. It is charging fine, but when I leave the bike sitting for a few days, the battery is dead. I charged the battery up and did a test on the alternator - it is putting out 14-15V at idle, but when I check for AC voltage, there is a small amount of...

Re: Poor Boy questions

There is a circle stamped in the covers (half one each cover). I just used a grinder and ate away at the cover until I had the space of the hole removed. Then cleaned it up a little with a dremel. I had to take the right side crash guard loose and tip it out of the way in order to get the right side...

Timing Belt procedure

So I'm in the process of doing the Poor Boy upgrade, and while I have everything stripped down I was going to replace the timing belts. Is it really necessary to get everything to TDC, or can I just mark all the pulleys as they currently sit and replace the belts making sure the marks/teeth don't mo...
