Re: 2018 service manual

I purchased one like I do with all my bikes. This one is well written and easy to follow. The only thing that I want is a 7 ring binder to store the manual in. Service and Owner Information > Honda Motorcycle > All Years Service Manual Binder (Protective Cover for Service Manual) Protect your Manua...

Re: 2018 service manual

I think I'll order it before the next service is due. BTW, I see there are 2 drain plugs-1 for the crankcase and 1 for the DCT, but only 1 fill hole. If they're connected, why can't they drain out of one spot-which ever is lower? Evidently another quart gets stuck between them if you only do one, s...

I just cut and pasted it to a text file on my HD for future reference, but it would be nice to see a How-to-Articles section on the 2018 started up.

Re: Rivco Sidestand Pad

I just picked one up for my 2018. I can't remember but didn't someone calculate how much more weight/displacement adding a square inch of surface area and/or adding this pad adds to supporting the bike? Of course I'm sure I slaughtered the terminology used to describe how adding this pad helps/preve...

what about a sena bluetooth Freewire receiver? or are you going to use wired headsets on the new bike? Gary I looked at this on SENA and for the life of me i I can't figure out what it's for. I just bought a SENA SRL for use with my new Shoes Neotec 2. Will post here if I have problems with it conn...

Re: 2018 GL1800 minimal shock travel

The front and rear shocks on the tour have electronic damping the rear only has electric pre-load the front has no pre-load. This is for the tour only, not sure about other models.

I'll tell ya at NASR-11 if I get the bike in time. I booked a room this time, just in case my luggage capacity was too small. :D

Re: 2018 GOLDWING SPECIFICATIONS

In the 80’s I rode Kawasaki’s, GPZ’s. I used to take 2-3 day weekend trips to Michigan, 700 miles round trip, several times a year. I used a duffel bag strapped to the seat. I never seemed to have enough room. I used to see if I could make the trip in 5 hours, never could. I remember when Kawasaki C...

Re: What clothing do you wear

I went with mesh jacket and mesh pants, modular helmet, gore-tex leather boots, leather gloves. I replaced some of the armor in the jacket and pants with mesh armor, bonus of CE-2 as well. I also got the winglets that hang off of the mirrors and that dumps a ton of air right on the chest. Frog-Togs ...

Re: GL1500 LED's

I strapped my resistors to the frame underneath the rear trunk using two stainless steel band clamps. This turns the frame of the bike into a giant heat sink for the resistors. I then tapped into the turn signal wires that are already right in that area leading to the trunk turn signals. Ok, I'm pr...

Re: GL1500 LED's

The turn signal runs two 1156 bulbs. Each 1156 bulb draws 27 watts as 12 volts, which means that each bulb presents a resistive load of 5.3 ohms. We have two bulbs, so to calculate both bulbs resistance we use 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2. This works out to 1/Rt = 1/5.3 + 1/5.3, or 1/Rt = 0.189 + 0.189, whic...

Re: GL1500 LED's

You can buy lots of expensive "load balancing devices" and so on, but when it comes down to it, all it is, is a high power resistor. resistor.jpg OK, I decided to swap my turn signals out to LED's. Although I understand the concept of the "load balancing devices"/resistors, I don't understand ohm's...

Hooked it up, blue wire/black stripe, <couldn't see the black marking but it was the only one left> and it works like a champ!

Re: Best Spot to intercept High Beam switch

OK, I was looking again and found this info, so I'll try this if it applies. Everything always seems to be on the opposite side of the bike e.g. "right turn signal" Where do I find a high beam headlight wire, one easy to get to, on a 2000 gl1500 se for installation of a garage door module? Hopefully...

Best Spot to intercept High Beam switch

I recently installed some auxiliary lights and wired both wires over to the left side faring container, (the one with the leather style cover w/snaps). There I plan to place a relay, (about the only place with space left), and pick up the high beam switch power to power the relay coil so when you tu...

Re: Replacing the stock foot pegs with?

Well, I'm becoming use-to the stock setup with my boots. Probably a combination of things. 1. The boots are breaking in and are a bit more flexible. 2. My ankle is getting used to articulating downward for shifts. 3. I'm not driving as aggressive and now pre-shifting prior to a turn and utilizing th...

Re: Replacing the stock foot pegs with?

I forgot to mention, I only bought the actual footpeg, no mount attached, as I already had that part from Kury. The footpeg part, I swear, was identical to Kury, and I believe is Kury. Yes, if not they are very close, maybe one less coat of chrome, and different bolts, (small shoulder head and prob...

I'm keeping the peg and rubber for replacements for my highway pegs. I'm OK with that as I said prior deciding whether or not to purchase them. I got my answer and some spare parts. Would have "sucked" if they did work though.

Re: Replacing the stock foot pegs with?

And, given my obvious disdain for Chinese made stuff, you might not want to treat the Kuryakyn pegs the way you treat those OEM, Japanese or US made pegs. Just sayin' Well as far as them being the quality of Kuryakyn products, that's a negative. The base of the peg seems OK, but the attachment/adap...

Re: Replacing the stock foot pegs with?

I bought a set of those pegs to replace my highway pegs, from eBay. They were indistinguishable from the Kuryakyn. Same weight, same finish, identical as near as I can tell. They even corrode just as easily as Kuryakyn. I think you'll find the same with yours. I suspect, as I did when I ordered the...
