Re: 1982 GL1100 won't start just clicks

Took the battery to the auto parts store and had them check it. Ended up buying a new battery. Came home and filled it up with acid, let it sit for an hour just like the instructions said. Put it on the bike and it started. Even though the battery was only about a year old it went bad on me.

1982 GL1100 won't start just clicks

I have a 1982 GL1100 that I tried to start the other day. Key on and switch to run, press starter button and just clicks. Ordered a new ignition solenoid from Dennis Kirk. Put the new solenoid on and still just clicks. Put the battery charger on the bike and let it sit. Still clicks. Replaced the st...

Re: How to rebuild your front brake calipers

Yes I did all of that. The red grease made it a lot easier. The pistons did go in a little woonky but did even out and slid right in after messing with them for awhile. I polished the positions and the pivot bolt. Have to do the left side next. Just ran out of time today. I took brake cleaner and a ...

Re: How to rebuild your front brake calipers

Okay. So today I attempted to rebuild my front calipers. All went pretty well until I got to the seals. Getting them in and nice and even and such, was a little rough. Getting the positions in was a major problem. I ended up using the small tub of lube that came with the rebuild kit. I then used a c...

Re: Front Brake Problem

I tried to clean the return port. Not sure if I stuck the single bristle, of a wire brush into the right hole. I know that the return port is tiny, but so small that my old eyes missed it. Does anyone have a picture of the master cylinder that shows where the return is? I saw that there was several ...

Re: Oil Leak

Bought a used valve cover from eBay. Bought a new gasket from a Honda dealer, along with the rubber bushings. Figured I would change them while I had the cover off. Are the rubber bushings hard to get on? I plan on cutting the old ones off. Do they just slip over the end of the bolt or is there a tr...

Re: Oil Leak

Ordered a used valve cover from e bay. From the picture it looks to be in decent shape. Plan on going to the Honda dealer and getting a new gasket. The valve cover itself has a small chunk out of it. Not sure how that happened. Looks like PO tried to use some black sealant to fix it. It must of work...

Re: Oil Leak

I believe the right and left valve covers are the same, am I correct? Will other years fit my 1982 Aspy? Thanks again for all the help.
I did get the broken piece of bolt out today so it was a good day for me.

Re: Oil Leak

So today I thought I would try to find out where the oil was leaking from. It looked like the valve cover gasket was the culprit. I tried to tighten the bolts. Me being me snapped one of the bolts. Got the cover off and found that the valve cover had a small piece missing where the leak was coming f...

Re: Front Brake Problem

I have not cleaned out the master cylinder yet. I was going to try that next. When I do open the bleeder screws fluid does come out into the tube that I use so I don't get fluid all over the place. When I try to bleed the brakes I place a tube onto the bleeder screw, the tube goes into a bottle with...

Neutral light issue

Just replaced the starter on my 82 Aspencade gl1100. Now the neutral light stays on even in gear. It will go out once I let out the clutch and start moving. It also comes on when I push in the clutch to shift. Not sure one has anything to do with the other but..... Thanks for letting me bug you guys...

Interstate Plasstic on Aspencade

I have a chance to buy some saddlebags, tank, and seat off of a 82 Interstate. I have an 82 Aspencade. Would the parts fit my bike without any trouble? I think the Interstate has the tail lights on the saddle bags, not sure if they are exactly the same as my Apsencade or not. The plastic I have a ch...

Exhaust studs

Anyone know where I can get new studs for the exhaust for an 82gl1100. I have the exhaust off to change the starter. Broken the lower bolt off. Now I want to put new studs, lock washers and bolts before I reconnect the exhaust.

Had the exhaust off off my 82 gl1100 to replace the starter. Busted the lower bolt and have been messing with it off and on the last few weeks. Put the starter back on with just the upper bolt until I can get someone to help me out with the bolt. i broke an easy out off so there's that. Noticed toni...

Re: How to replace your front brake pads

Going to attempt to change my front brakes soon. I noticed that the brake line was removed in the tutorial. Is that required or will it make changing the pads easier? If I do remove the brake line what do i have to do to reconnect it? Prime the brakes? I want to replace the fluid anyway. If I take o...

Re: Starter Relay gone bad

Removed the Engine guards. Unbolted the exhaust, both sides and dropped the pipes to get better access. Removed the floorboards and shifter. Still have to work on that darn bolt. Tried the other night but dinner called and I was hungry. I am going to try the vice grips again. If no luck then going t...

Starter Relay gone bad

Recently bought an 82 Aspencade. Went to get spare keys cut and when I came out of the locksmith bike wouldn't start. Just heard a click when pushed the starter button. I luckily got a passerby to push me so I got it running. I bought a new relay from Amazon. It stated it would fit my bike. Installe...
