Re: Bike will start but won't stay running
I'm still currently trying to get my 76 gl1000 put back together so I can go out and ride it once winter is over. I finally got the bike to run (kind of). I rebuilt all 4 carbs and cleaned them out well. Also put on new points and condenser for ignition. The bike gets spark and the battery is at 12...

Timing and Points
Ive been reading about timing and setting the gaps on the points for the ignition but I just don't seem to get it at all. I'm trying to figure out how to set the gaps in relation to the piston strokes and just simply how to time the bike (76 gl1000) to make it run but I can never understand what the...

Electrical component question
I'm currently rebuilding a 76 gl1000 and I ran into this component of the electrical system. It's a silver box with no markings on it and the previous owner added his own wires so I am not really sure what it does or where the wires connect. It has 2 black wires, a light green wire, and a white wire...

Re: 1976 gl1000 Foot Pegs/rests
Yes there were both front and rear foldable pegs. I believe that 75-79 are all the same. Easily found on Ebay. There was also a shifter arm used with the pegs, also found on EBay. Ok thank you! I just looked them up after reading you response and they aren't that expensive. Are there any aftermarke...

Re: 1976 gl1000 Foot Pegs/rests
I'm currently rebuilding a 1976 GL1000 and noticed there was no foot pegs left with any of the parts only these floor boards. Is and was there any foot pegs that came with this bike? If not are there any foot pegs that will properly mount the the bike. Also, the foot rests have a built on foot shif...

Re: 1976 GL1000 Assembly Questions
Number one thing I would do is download a parts manual (to identify the parts) and a factory service manual. Without them there is nowhere to go. The first night the bike was home I was doing some digging and found as many diagrams as I could and found a full service manual and parts book which is ...

Re: 1976 GL1000 Assembly Questions
Personally I would see this as a golden opportunity. Take stock of everything you have and get it sorted into sections, for example; Rear suspension Forks Carbs etc, etc Hopefully, from this, you can establish if anything is missing and if anything you have, needs repairing/refurbishing/replacing. ...

1976 GL1000 Assembly Questions
I currently have a 1976 GL1000 that was given to me in plastic tubs and a cardboard box. The bike was previously taken apart from the previous owner and was going to restore the bike but never got around to it. My question is where should I start? Please note everything is dissembled and it is just ...
