Bikes for the young'un

My son is now 11 years old, and that means he is older than I was when I got my first motorcycle. They don't seem to make dual-sport or trail bikes small enough for him to ride. (he's not nearly as tall as I was at his age) This leaves me with looking at full dirt bikes, or pit bikes. Anyone ever pl...

I use an ISP that is shady, so I never thought the site was slow, just a day in the life. Thanks, though!

Underground 'Wing

So I was was leaving an area where some recycled concrete had been laid down and compacted recently when I found that the same principle that keeps bikes from hydroplaning also allows them to sink. Buried the back tire before it started to spin, and it only started to spin because the exhaust was al...

Just got in some parts that I ordered from BikeBandit, they sent along a coupon code and a candy, so I'm already a winner. (too bad I'm allergic to the candy)

Re: How hot does it have to be before you won't ride?

I loved living in Phoenix, "it's a dry heat" is what all the souvenir shops said. Somewhere around 1990, I was there for a week of really hot weather, I think the air temp got to about 120 F. Add to that the reflective heat of asphalt and concrete, and now matter how "dry" it was, you couldn't touch...

Poker hand = pair of 9's

So this last weekend I went on the first poker run on my Wing. She was running well, the weather was favorable, and I got to see some roads that I wouldn't normally take. It was worth the entry fee for me. Along the way, the best out of 7 cards drawn was a measly pair of 9's. Needless to say, I didn...

Re: highway pegs for trike

When my ex-wife was preggers with my daughter, her belly became so big that moving the seat forward was no longer an option. She's a foot and a half shorter than I am, who knew an almost 10lb baby could come out of someone 5' tall? My temporary solution was to securely wire 2x4's to the pedals. This...

Fork seal replacement parts

After a poker run last weekend, I noticed that I had developed a leak in one of my fork seals. I count any liquid coming out at all as a bad sign, so she's in the garage until I have time to tackle this new project. I guess I'm lucky that I actually have a vertical press, this should make it a bit e...

Googled cat ears, not sure if I found what you needed, but there are several options available for wind noise reduction for standard mics. Even saw a youtube video with a DIY project that included $.25 piece of foam and tape.

That little ginger boy seems to think they should put on some decent clothes, as he isn't allowed to wear such garb. Great looking ride, though. (the trike, that is, get your mind out of the gutter!)

Does this count as a wind mill? I think they officially call it a wind turbine, but these things are HUGE! (Pawnee National Grassland, near the NE border)
If this counts, the next tag will be... anything painted camouflage.

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

Very lucky, that you have not been touched by a bee, bird, or a rock thrown up by another vehicle, but I wish you well in your riding and may you ride well. Even small birds hurt A LOT when you hit them at 70mph. I've never seen or been knocked off by a bird, but I've heard horror stories about it ...

Re: 10 Day Camping Trip with video updates!

Some day, far in the future, when I eventually walk through those Pearly Gates, I hope to see something similar to your image with the sign: "Winding road, next 99 miles." (of course, a bike waiting for me, and maybe the sign says "Winding one way road to infinity, no speed limit.")

Re: Riding next to tractor trailers

Going back to "rick 457" and the encounter with the pothole, the road nasties await us all. Several years ago I hit a 2X4 laying lengthwise in my travel lane offset about 10 degrees in the middle of an intersection. The cars ahead of me drove over it okay, it was a last minute thing for me. Driving...

Re: What clothing do you wear

I fell asleep (1:00 in the afternoon after driving through the night) and went down back in 1981 doing about 65mph, I was extremely lucky as I was wearing jeans, no helmet as it was strapped to the back of my 78 Wing. As I slid down the blacktop, my leather wallet saved my posterior from road rash....

Been having some issues with repair shops myself, lately, but I can also see it this way: The dealership already assumed the tire was good, and they didn't do the shoddy job in the first place. The stem may not have had any outward signs of failure, as you mentioned that it lasted the rest of the su...

Re: Should I be upset?

What kind of penetration does brake fluid get? The bike sat overnight before I found the damage, and I cleaned it off right after taking a picture, even gave it a light sanding. Would another sanding possibly get rid of it now, or is it already too late? My plans include repainting the entire bike, ...
