Re: Dying when trying to take off
While I don't think that I have had that exact problem, my 1990 has had several vacuum hoses break at the inake manifold and the extra air could be the reason you need extra fuel(choke, which is really a fuel enrichment device) and still can't get the bike to run well enough to drive.

Re: Fuse Blowing
Anytime you have a problem right after doing something then that is the first thing you suspect of causing the problem. Go back and check your work for pinched and shorted wires and so forth that could cause the fuse to blow. Keep in mind that the issue may be in a wire that you didn't touch but got...

Re: numerous turning on/off ignition key, Total darkness
Great. Glad it was an easy fix. Thanks for posting the update and the fix. Seems like few people do that anymore. +1on that! We love to be of help but it is so much easier to know for sure what the repair was for ourselves and the next guy or girl that needs the info can fix theirs a lot easier and...

Re: Steering stem bearing change. I don't have enough slack in the wires
Overall I would go with what Rambozo has said about not doing any "creative engineering" on a repair but sometimes it can be done if you are up to reengineering it properly. I for one got tired of trying to get the slack needed in those wires and since I had a supply of doner wires and con...

Re: Fuel leaking and dripping from carb
I admit that this is a long shot but since the cause is almost surely the needle sticking and it happened after only one season of sitting, there is a possibility that putting some fuel system cleaner (SeaFoam is highly thought of) and drive it a bit to see if the leak will stop. Obviously you shoul...

I'm glad that you were able to find both problems, especially since the alternator being buried is a little harder to make out. Enjoy the riding this summer.

Re: Foot Peg Springs
While I don't have pegs on mine I would suggest doing this; realize that the purpose of the spring is to keep the peg down in normal use and allow it to angle up if it is pushed up by hard cornering and it contacts the ground. Since that is the case, look for wear marks in places that would allow th...

Re: Markland heel toe shifter repair
Since this is really rather easy I went ahead and took the shifter back apart to make some pictures to help those of us that don't normally dig into the mechanics of things that often to understand what is needed to be done for this repair. The bushing that is needed to be replaced: IMG_0639.jpg The...

Markland heel toe shifter repair
I have had a problem with my heel toe shifter for some time now and after installing the shifter brace realized that the bushing that the shift lever pivots on was worn and allowing excessive movement of the shift lever. i added a shim to the side of the lever and that improved the shift feel but it...

Re: valve tap
I would suggest taking the left valve cover back off and check the rocker arms to see which one is loose, since it is a loud noise it should be easy to spot the offender and then decide what to do, it may be obvious.

Re: timing belts
As MikeB said, there is no chance of belt breakage and no damage. The best you could hope for is that the valves would be bent and the rest of the engine be ok, unfortunately repair requires removal of the cylinder heads and replacement of the valves and then replace the timing belts that could have...

Re: Battery drain
Your battery was certainly bad, three months of sitting will discharge your battery to some degree but not to the point that it can't be charged up enough that it will appear to be fully charged. A voltmeter is misleading because as Rambozo said there are legitimate drains on the battery with the ke...

Ok, after putting it back together I have to admit that Scott's idea is better, the light distribution is more even.
Oh well, hope this puts a little more light on the subject.

Re: How to replace your handlebar control lights with LEDs
Anyway my left side of the handlebar didn't had any kind of lights... Completely gone and what was left was just melted plastic with carbon. Some guy had opened it already and taped what was left... I Improvised a bit and the lack of the blue cap actually makes some difference here, as the led thro...

Re: Starting Engine while in Gear
It's a lot better to use a meter or a test light. Just because a switch clicks, doesn't mean it's working. I've seen people chase all over for what turned out to be a simple faulty switch. Normally I would agree totally but in this case I am talking about a switch that is not being pushed far enoug...

The best advice I can give is to contact voyager trikes and ask them, if anyone would know accurately they would. I wish that you lived a little closer to me as I have a richland roadster trike kit that I know would work and would like to sell but freight might be rough right now.

Re: Starting Engine while in Gear
If I remember correctly there are two microswitches on the left side, one for the cruise control and one for the start enable so you might look further. And yes you should be able to pull the clutch and start with it in gear.

Re: 1988 gl 1500not starting
IF you went directly to the starter WITH a decent size wire AND a properly charged battery (don't be afraid to use a battery other than the one on the bike) then I suspect that you are due for a trip to your starter/alternator repair shop or to buy a new starter. Having said that make sure that your...

Re: did GL1500SE come with a Alternator light from the factory
Neat and sweet. The only cars that I had actually seen this used on were ones that used an exciter wire to start the charging and it worked well there with the bulb inline. Excitation voltage was dropped to about 9 volts which is enough to induce the magnetic field and usually the system worked well.

Re: did GL1500SE come with a Alternator light from the factory
BTW, when my alternator died (has happened twice) the first thing I noticed was that the cruise control wouldn't set due to the low voltage so if your cruise stops working during a ride you might want to pay attention because you may already be in trouble.

Re: did GL1500SE come with a Alternator light from the factory
This idea is from a long time ago so I hope that I remember it correctly. If you put a light between the alternator output and the positive post of the battery with a diode in line to prevent current from going from the alt to the battery (the normal way) it will allow the bulb to light when the alt...
