Re: Cruise Control Indicators

Since the cruise control unit is under the trunk and the fact that I've read often about ground wire issues in the wires that go under the seat I would suggest pulling the seat off and check the condition of the large wire connectors. From the looks of pictures posted previously it could be a very o...

Re: Cruise Control Indicators

When you see lights on dim when they have no business being on at all you can be sure that you have a bad ground. Electricty always needs a complete circuit, that is a supply and a return, without the return there is no current flow (think of a switch). Now if the regular return path is blocked the ...

Re: How to replace your universal joint (and driveshaft)

Grease is cheap compared with the cost of hard parts as you may have noticed. If the splines are lubed properly you will probably wear out the rest of the bike before you will need to replace those parts again.

Re: How to replace your universal joint (and driveshaft)

It is typical that they won't list everything the lube is used for, it may have been used for brake pads first. Ask the service department what they use for the drive train lube.

Re: How to replace your universal joint (and driveshaft)

If I start reading more carefully it would help, he just said reputation is an issue. I really think that the Honda lube is the way to go just use plenty of it, it's going to have to be in there doing its job for a long time.

Re: How to replace your universal joint (and driveshaft)

Definitely suitable problem is availability although it's possible they are looking for the old part number, I had that issue when I replaced the u joint in mine, was looking for the old Honda 60 paste when only the newer Honda M77 is available. Which is good, it has even more moly content.

Re: How to replace your universal joint (and driveshaft)

It may be hard to find in your country (no Honda dealers?) but it might be possible to order from another country there on the continent. Honda is really stuck on using that high moly lube.

Google Honda Moly Paste M77, it used to be 60 now its 77. It's easy to get here and I hope in your area also.

Re: Hello from southern Alberta...

If you will keep oil and water in them and not let the timing belts get too old they are some tough engines, my '90 model has 144k and still going strong and that is not high miles compared to some.

Re: URGENT: Bike SUDDENLY won't start???????!!!!!!!!

I am thinking that some folks just like to be pickey and if they don't like the way you comb your hair you get a thumbs down. I was supposing that the thumb down was for strong disagrement or something outright wrong but it seems that is not the case many times. The only ones I would worry about are...

Re: GL1500se Engine Query ?

Secondary air supply ports, an emissions thing that you folks don't seem to need so yours are blocked off. That system has a lot of plumbing so you don't want to try to duplicate it, just plug the ports.

Re: Hello from southern Alberta...

I can't make out your engine number well enough to tell but it does look like its a '94 engine for sure. Good link for reference. Try cleaning the number with solvent and a brush and see if it won't come clearer.

I just looked at my '90 model and my engine number starts with 220 so your engine is a good bit newer than that starting with 260.

Re: Hello from southern Alberta...

I venture to say it's worth 50 bucks if only for parts, past that I don't know what sort of shape the internals of either the engine or trans are in. You could have a gem or a boat anchor there with no more info it's hard to tell. Its got reverse so it's from an aspencade or se, possibly someone els...

At $23 that's a choice tool! Only does the one size fuse but that could be dealt with and no chart needed.

Bingo! This will help a little: https://www.powerprobetek.com › ...PDF Web results Fuse Voltage Drop Chart -JCase Cartridge Style - Power Probe The idea is that if you know how much current is flowing through the fuse when it shouldn't be you can guess a little closer as to what component might be u...

Re: URGENT: Bike SUDDENLY won't start???????!!!!!!!!

Fluke has been a good meter since forever and yes the resistance of the fuse will give a voltage in proportion to the current flow, unfortunately I can't find a copy of the charts that indicates how much but no flow = no voltage indicated.

Re: URGENT: Bike SUDDENLY won't start???????!!!!!!!!

Yes, connect the light between the battery post and the cable, if there is any current going through the wire then the test light will light up, no current no light. If you have a multimeter you can do this even better by checking the voltage drop across each fuse. That would tell you not only which...

Re: URGENT: Bike SUDDENLY won't start???????!!!!!!!!

If you have a test light or other bulb that you can connect between the battery and one of the two cables (recommend the positive, it's easier to get to) and if there is a draw on the battery the light will be on. Pull fuses one at a time till the light goes out and you at least know what circuit th...

Re: Gl1500 hissing carbs

Sounds a lot like a disconnected or broken vacuum hose, I have had several that caused noise and poor running and were on the manifold by the sparkplugs, one that was so bad that I swore that the engine had jumped time and I had ruined it. There are vac hoses galore by the carbs/air cleaner so check...

Re: Timing at top dead center but gear pulleys don't match

And keep in mind that while the crank pulley will be lined up properly the cam pulleys may be a hair off of the mark. Since you can only be a whole tooth off and not just a smidge don't worry about that (unless it's a whole tooth off then worry and correct it). If you are 180 degrees out the marks w...

Re: 94 GL 1500 fuel and temp gauges non op

One other suggestion, use some dielectric grease in the connection, it will serve as a heat transfer medium and prevent heat from concentrating and melting things. Over the years I've fixed a number of repeat loss of contact issues that way. Of course having as good a connection as possible would be...

Re: All them wires

That shouldn't get you a gig but it would be sort of a large bundle and what makes you notice something is when it draws your eye due to size, color, messy in with neat, that sort of thing. If you can make it blend in it will never be seen.
