Re: 85 limited tachometer seems to be reading low

You know I had thought of that it could be related to the coils also, but dreading unburying everything to get down in there to check. especially with the SEI's I did a coil pack on a regular Aspy and that was bad enough. Now you just gave me more incentive to get in there and root around!

Re: Ltd Compression Test

Same procedure as you do for a non fuel injected, warm bike up, shut down pull plug wires, blow out area around plugs with plugs still in bike, when fully clean pull plugs, install your compression tester, I use screw in type, open throttle all the way and hold down starter button until gauge reads ...

LTD owners Alternator conversion question

Hi all this question is for the LTD guys who have done the Poorboy conversion, how did you manage to deal with the small coolant line on the leftside in front of the timming cover, it seems to me that it will be in the way. I have already done a conversion on an 86 Aspencade, using a Geo Metro alt a...

LTD Fuel pump part number consensus

Hi all, recently picked up two 1985 LTD's nice clean bikes, one needing a stator, the other needs a fuel pump, have seen some articles on the fuel pump replacement ,see that the Spectra SP1186 seems to be the closest to original fitment, is that the general consensus for a replacement? Or has there ...

Thanks Erdeniz, it is great to have people like you on the forum that are able to shed light on problems we encounter with our bikes, going through manuals can be helpful but also talking with people who have experienced the same problems can be the most rewarding.

Re: Do you use a dealer for service?

Included pictures of my tire changing tools, just takes me longer, of course I changed tires as one of my first jobs as a kid, passenger tires, big rig , backhoes etc, so I still do it nowadays even though I am in a wheelchair, I just find it satisfying to be able to accomplish something doing it my...

Re: Do you use a dealer for service?

Do all my own work, as dealers around won't touch anything older than 7 years and there are no independent cycle shops around here that I know of, plus if I can do it myself I save about $85 an hour and can take my time doing it, plus I find it rather enjoyable keeps me mellow (LOL), it helps to hav...

Re: Tilt sensor Bypassed Permenently ??

I have an 89 that I just picked up has not been on the road since 2003, I looked for the x stamp by the r side lower engine mount and see that here is no x mark there so I figured it has not been done, just haven't called the dealership with the vin numbers yet to verify for sure.

Re: Cornering light

P1100282.JPG I found the lights from Show Chrome, they are on the way, I took a look at the base rotating idea figured it would take a mighty hot soldering iron to melt through the tiny spot welds. Could see where the soldering across the contacts would work, but one of my bulbs glass part was rota...

Re: Rear brake rotors

Looks like that is one you are selling?, If so when you measured it did you measure in the center of the rotor, did you measure with a micrometer versus Vernier calipers?
