Re: Starter issue on a 84 Interstate

Hello Forum, I am having the same issue with an 84 IE. I bought the bike from a Harley guy who was fixing for a previous owner who had let the bike set for 3 years. He changed the oil and plugs but could only get the bike to idle. I cleaned the carbs and the jets and was firing off like a champ. I c...

Re: Fuel Tank Breather location

pulled the carbs again as one was leaking ... adjusted the floats. This time I used carb cleaner on the little jets.... was able to work a wire brush bristle all the was through. Bike fires off and revs now with no issues.

Re: Fuel Tank Breather location

I found the Fuel tank breather.... I will run the bike with the fuel cap off to see if this helps. I will update progress.

Fuel Tank Breather location

I have an 84 gl1200 that will start easy enough but will die if I give it any throttle. I pulled the carbs and soaked them in kerosene, cleaned the needle seat, cleaned the little holes in the jet. Reassembled. Runs better but still has same issue. I heard the tank hissing while closed.... It was th...

Re: Please help me find the choke on this bike

Hello, I have an 84 GL1200. I could not figure out where the choke was either. I pulled the cabs and plenum and found the choke at the bottom of the plenum on the left hand side as you sit on the bike. I had to partially remove the carbs and pulls it towards me to get ti the choke cable barrel nut.

No Vaccum to #3 from canister

Hello all, I have been working on bringing back a 1980 gl1100. I rebuilt the carbs with a Randakk kit and cleaned the tank very well. I did have the carbs synched last fall and it ran great. I am having trouble with the #3 carb not firing unless over 6K rpm. I pulled off the vaccum hose to #3 and I ...

Coil wiring question

Hello all, I replaced one of coils on my gl1100. I went to re attach the wires for the coil and checked in the Clymer manual and they were different from how it was attached on my bike. I found this on Randakk's site file.jpg Clymer shows as : W/B, L W/B(2 together) , Y (Coil) (Coil)

Re: Carb install after rebuild (Pete) and #3 seems dead

Hi Alec, I was right where you are 3 months ago. I found this video on you tube that help me with the disassembly. lZqfXMbXrqA Removing the fuel cutoff is at 15:45. The title is " 1983 Honda Goldwing GL 1100 carburetor disassembly " without the quotes of course. Because of all of the tiny ...

Re: Accel Coil replacement or stay stock?

Thanks for the feedback....I ended up just buying an EMGO coil for $28 off Ebay. I was installing it when I realized I could not remember where to put the green ground wire. I know this is minor but I want to place correctly if possible. PS I filled the ignition modules with JB Plastic Weld 2 part e...

Re: Carb install after rebuild (Pete) and #3 seems dead

Hey guys, I just had the same issue and posted it on this forum... after "rebuild" #3 had no fuel in cylinder. The shop I work in is full of Harley's and so the carbs are simple. Here's how I got # 3 to fire like a champ. When the guy's in the shop rebuilt carb they just cleaned the jets a...

Re: Accel Coil replacement or stay stock?

Kind of at a crossroads here with the Accel replacement. I found a set of Accel 140403 coils and wires for 165 with free shipping at denniskirk.com. The Honda coils are the same price but I don't get the wires ( which I need). Leaning toward the Accel but I never spoke with anyone who put them on. T...

Thanks Ernest...I like to stay under 80 so the high speed benefit of Accel is not much for me.

Accel Coil replacement or stay stock?

Hello forum, I just got the carbs synched on a gl1100 that had set a while. Carb rebuilt and soaked in kerosene for a day....lots of nasty stuff in the soak. Now runs great cold. Hard to start hot...one of the coils is cracked in 3 placed.... all of the tar melted out of the 2 ignition modules??. Sh...

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

Solved. The fuel cutoff was fused to the aluminum in the carb 3. I had to break off a green bridge from the little brass knob on the cutoff diaphragm that had fused to the carb wall. The copper had come out of the brass!! I replaced this part after soaking the whole card for 2 days in kerosene. Runs...

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

Thanks...I will bench test it this time before reinstall. I don't think these carbs have ever been rebuilt so the rubber parts are probably in bad shape. btw where is the final basket filter?

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

Thank you for the suggestions as to why I cannot get fuel into # 3 carb. Last night I think I found the problem. I split carb 1 and 3 and then took off the fuel cut off cover. The little ball was fused into the socket and the rubber on the diaphragm was the consistency of carbon paper. My guess is t...

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

I pulled the carbs last night. Fuel bowl was full of fuel. removed the main jet....clear. there was another small hole next to the main jet. I poked it with a bristle from a wire brush. I think it may have been plugged but not sure. Blew it out with air. carb cleaner now flows through with no issues...

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

Thanks, I made sure the slide floated freely by kind of "bouncing" it up and down when out. The tank had some rust in it but the carbs looked really good when out on second try. I will focus on the jets....btw the bike sounds great for a second when I used the starting spray in the plenum!

Re: No fuel for #3 carb

Thank you Maz,

The drain screw on the #3 bowl has some damage. I will remove the carbs for the 3rd time. and focus on the jets, check the float level and replace the drain screw/plug for next time......I think you are right, I was just hoping I would not need to remove the carbs again.

No fuel for #3 carb

Hello Fellow Wingers; I have a 1980 GL1100i that does not get any fuel into the #3 Carb. The other 3 are fine. We removed the carbs 2x and cleaned them. I put in a new accelerator diaphragm. I made sure plunger on #3 floated freely. When I spray a little starting fluid into the plenum towards the #3...
