Re: Spare Relays, and Anything Else?
Due to Life happening I haven't had the 1500 out since late April, but this week I rode it to the office - been normally working remote from home but needed to go in to do some things. After a tire pressure check Bike happily started and down the road I go. Quickly discovered to my dismay the turn s...

Re: GL1000 GL2 Restoration
Welcome to GoldwingDocs! You should probably replace the timing belts before you try to run the engine. It probably won't hurt to put a battery in and see if the starter motor can crank the engine with no fuel, the sound of the cranking can tell you if the engine still has compression in the cylinde...

Re: Gl 1100 timing belt tensioner
My '85 Toyota Camry has 354,000 miles on it now. Water Pump (still original, driven by the timing belt) has developed a significant leak (again!!) . The weird part about this is it started leaking while I was out of state in 2006, this was at least 125,000 miles ago, and I was 1200 miles from home a...

Re: Where does each carb jet lead to?
Had same issue with my 1100 this spring. Turned out to be plugged idle jets in #1 and #3 carbs. It would run on all four if I gave it some throttle (proved that driving around the neighborhood), but only #2 & #4 firing at idle throttle. Don't have diagram of 1200 carbs, but those jets will need ...

Re: Oil change miles, times, etc
I'm using Rotella T6, Being full synthetic I'm not afraid to go 50% more miles than published interval on any vehicle where published interval is spec'd for Dino oil. That said, I change at end of every season on the bike. Average 5000 miles / season, sometimes as little as 3000, sometimes as much a...

Re: Just purchased my first Goldwing!!!
Hello and welcome to the forum. Main drive clutch should be fine, but I'd service the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and the master on the handlebar. Also since you are in there you should service the starter sprag clutch (Clean it), on the same shaft as the alternator rotor, they tend to get gumme...

Re: Rebuilding an 88 GL1500
Petcock spring doesn't have to be very robust, it's there to stop any gravity feed that may happen when your fuel tank is full and pump not running with bike parked. The 1500 can run on a dead fuel pump if the fuel tank is completely full- the fuel level in the tank is higher than the carb bowls and...

I drove my bike to the local welding shop with the trunk and bags removed to have broken trunk mounting ears welded. Looked kinda funny going down the road with the bare subframe and all the doodads hanging out.

Re: Keeping Cool
Mine got a couple needle-widths below the red on my '93 last summer when we got caught in Chicago rush hour on I-80 to I-94, we were traveling 2-up and pulling a fully loaded camper trailer, mid 90's temp. We were moving a little, but it was stop-go surrounded by semi trucks. There wasn't any steam,...

Re: Site progress update
Just curious any update on Progress? I know the Production site is hosted in the cloud, but when you get to the point you are ready for Beta testing maybe you could host an instance locally with a mostly empty database. There's a lot of members that would be willing to try to "Break" it an...

Re: How hard do you ride your GL1800
I'd say riding 2-up in 90-100 degree weather pulling a 550 Lb (loaded) camper trailer at 80MPH on the interstate for hours on end (done it several times with both my 1100 and my 1500) would be harder on the bike than scraping pegs in the twisties. (unless you wipe-out in a curve  ) Even the 1...

You could drill small pilot holes from the inside to outside, then change to correct size drill bit and re-drill the pilot holes from the outside.

Re: Euro Emissions rating?
I don't envy you guys in Europe for the stringent regulations required to register a bike. Seems a little "Over the Top" to me for just a motorcycle. Many states in the US require complete vehicle safety inspections when registering, at least for the first time. The state of Colorado has n...

Re: How to Remove, Rebuild and Reinstall your Clutch Slave Cylinder (VIDEO)
Still got air in there.
Try this - many members have done this on brakes with success - pull the clutch lever all the way and secure it to the handgrip. Leave it overnight. Bubbles should compress, and might migrate to the master cylinder.
You might have clutch action in the morning.

Re: Revival of a '96 Wing that has been sitting for 7 years.
Again thank you all for your input. I was a Honda car tech for a bit in the 70s and again in the 80s and their manuals seemed to be accurate and up to date. I'm a bit surprised by the cycle book. The car models changed more drastically and more often than the bikes. The 1500 was an essentially 13 y...

Re: My Aspencade, i washed it, now it won't start
By the way, the statement that the radios go out all the time is a falsehood. I have not heard of anything other than the radio panel back lights going out, and that takes a couple of years normally. +1 on that, Goldwing stereos are known for being very robust. Even the cassette deck on my '93 stil...

My '93 does not run the pump when key is switched on, doesn't run until Start button is pressed.

Re: ECM/FUEL PUMP/PULSE GENERATORS
You shouldn't see any DC voltage on them. They should read 400-500 ohms, and if you switch the meter to AC volts you should see them generate a very low AC voltage (way less than a volt, tiny AC pulses actually) when you crank the engine. It's these tiny pulses that the ECM uses to detect crankshaft...
