Re: overheating or wrong temp?

Might have a bad 7 volt Regulator -putting out 12 volts. This will cause the temp gauge to read far hotter than the engine actually is. A quick way to tell is the fuel gauge will also indicate far more fuel than is in the tank.

Replacement regulators are sold on this site.

Hank,

Probably can't get the same one I have anymore, it is 12 years old. Take a look around at Best Buy. You can probably find a nice NEW Sandisk for $50-ish with same/similar features.

Re: 1995 GL1500 SE will not start

Welcome to the forum! :) 1500's are particularly sensitive to low voltage at the ECM, if the battery is not at top snuff and there's voltage drops thru the ignition switch and all the connectors in the power reaching the ECM (this is common in 1500's) the ECM simply will not fire the sparkplugs if t...

Re: play from flash drive on 2006

I have a little Sandisk MP3 player I connect to the AUX input on my 1500 or 1100 which has an FM modulator. I also connect it to AUX input on my boombox for music when sitting out on the Patio or working in the yard, so it gets a lot of use. It has 8GB internal storage plus a slot to accept up to 32...

Non resistor plugs will be fine, but if you have a radio they cause interference especially on AM band if you listen to that

You can get the picture from your phone to your computer by texting it to your e-mail address on your computer. Or e-mail it to yourself if you can access your e-mail account from your phone. Some phones will let you download the picture directly into your computer if you connect the charge port on ...

Re: Temp gauge versus sensor

Could just be the weather. If I'm just riding around town in summertime the temp gauge hovers around mid-scale. In cooler weather it only goes up to a quarter, that's where the thermostat opens, and the ambient air is cool enough that it keeps the engine coolant right at that thermostat set point. Y...

Re: Bike shuts down on highway

Restarts while still rolling only if you shift to Neutral? With bike stopped try starting in gear with kickstand up, should be able to if you pull the clutch. Clutch switch, maybe? Still sounds like BAS even though you say recall was done. But I don't think a shift to neutral is needed for BAS reset...

Just reach behind the bags with an open end wrench. If you intend to service the driveshaft, too (I plan to next time), then removing both bags is necessary.

Re: ignition coil question

Often overlooked on these bikes with points are the ignition capacitors. Back when cars had points, when you bought a new set of points a new capacitor was included...

A failing capacitor can cause weak spark and cause the point contacts to burn out more quickly.

After I wrote this I thought of something that might be the cause. Anyhow I started replacing all the LED back to the ...

Fuel goes into Carb #3, then flows thru passages in the plenum to get to the other carbs. Likely bad seals between plenum halves.

Re: Groaning in lower rpm shifts

You can hit the throttle in a high gear at a lower speed, It might sound like a "groan" but what you are hearing is the individual power strokes from this high torque engine traversing the drive train. Since it is a balanced 6 cylinder engine it just sounds like a steady "groan",...

Beware that questionable pump, if the diaphragm has any leak it can be pumping fuel into the right side valve cover and the crankcase, too.

I use the iPhone for local map detail where needed. My iPhone is in an Otterbox case on my hip hanging onto my belt, it...

Re: ANOTHER alternator! This sucks!!

Easiest way to check this is do a voltage drop test. Put the Pos lead of your voltmeter on the big output terminal of the Alternator, the neg voltmeter lead to Pos terminal of the battery. With engine running this will show how much voltage is lost thru the cable, dogbone fuse and other connections ...
