Re: Gl1000 oil, why does it take forever to drain?

Typically, when you drain the oil on a GL1000, about 1 quart of oil will not get drained out of the rear of the engine. You can get most of it out if you jack up the rear of the bike so the engine is tilted forward. Honda should have added a drain plug near the clutch.

Re: Gl1000 if I open the fuel valve engine stops

To fix the float bowl screw holes back to the original size, buy a TimeSert thread repair kit. You can probably get these in Italy but they are made in the USA. http://www.timesert.com/ When rebuilding the carbs, be sure to replace the plenum seal and the carb-to-plenum seals. I use four clear tubes...

I recently tried PETG and I like it better than ABS because it prints cleaner. It is tough stuff.

Re: GL1000 How to install an electric fuel pump

This website doesn't allow me to upload a PDF file, so I had to use my personal website; however, I had to change providers and I can't use it for this purpose anymore. The administrator of the web site would have to upload it and I asked to have this done when I changed providers. Until it is uploa...

Re: GL1000 Carburettor Top Buttons

Here are some pictures of the parts and tools that I have created with my Lulzbot Mini 2 printer. The blue part protects the cap from being damaged when you press in the button and it is made out of PLA. The red cylinder tool is used to press in the button using a vice or a press and it is also made...

Re: GL1000 Carburettor Top Buttons

I make these "buttons" with my 3D printer using an ABS filament. Installing the button can be a challenge because it is easy to damage the cap. When you press the button into place, a lot of pressure must be applied to the center part of the cap and it is easy to warp it, which results in the center...

Re: Odometer and tripmeter quit working

I have noticed the 1977 GL1000 speedometer often has this issue. The gear that I have seen fail is made out of metal and the design of this gear is unique to the 1977 model.

Re: Quality Head Gaskets that are Made in the USA

These head gaskets were specifically designed for the GL1000 and I believe they are high quality gaskets. They worked fine on my project bike. I have done a lot of GL1000 restorations.

Quality Head Gaskets that are Made in the USA

You can now get quality head gaskets for the GL1000 that are made in the USA. During the development process, Saber Cycle asked me to inspect and install a set on a 1977 GL1000 project bike that I was working on and I was impressed. It is nice to see "Made in the USA" on products again. If you need ...

Matching Blue-Green 1975 GL1000

I have found a very close match to the 1975 blue-green GL1000. I bought one of these bikes new and always loved the color. I liked that it was bright blue in the sunlight and then looked green at sunrise or sunset. I know you can get this color from a motorcycle paint dealer online but it costs a fo...

Also, check the bullet connectors for the black wire with a white stripe. This wire goes to the coils and kill switch.

Re: Gold wing refusing to start

Spray starter fluid into the air filter intake and see if it starts. If it starts for a few seconds and then dies, you probably have stuck float valves.

I hope you didn't buy one of those cheap $70.00 starters because they are absolute junk. I tried one and it lasted about a week before the gears stripped out.

Re: Question about smoke at startup

All GL1000s smoke sometimes at startup because of poorly designed rings. I bought a new 1975 GL1000 and it smoked from the first day I owned it. Try to keep the oil level halfway between the marks instead of filling it to the top and avoid the side stand. It will help it a bit, but nothing I h...

Re: Clutch adjust cover Gasket / O ring

That Partzilla link doesn't have the gasket he needs. The one he needs is a "square O-Ring" that seals the clutch adjustment cover. I couldn't find one last week when I needed one, so I made my own using a 3D printer. I will make him one if he send me his address.

Re: GL1000 engine shutting down at lower speeds (while running warm)

Ask the shop if they replaced the plenum seals (between the plenum halves). If so, ask them if they tested for gas/air leaks after they replaced the seals. Also ask them if they pressure tested the float valves and checked the level of the gasoline in the float bowls after the rebuild job was comple...

Re: GL1000 engine shutting down at lower speeds (while running warm)

Do the same test except downshift into neutral instead of first. If it still dies, the clutch has nothing to do with the problem.
