Re: UNOBTAINIUM 2.0 PANEL 83160-MN5-XXX (Firecreek style)

'll be dealing with a family issue and will be unable to send out any panels until after July 1, 2019. My brother, who flew down to California last year just to be my "wingman" after I put my beast back together, was diagnosed with bladder cancer and is going "under-the-knife" on Monday (6/17) at Ma...

Re: bike won,t start

These 1500's are POWER-HOGS at startup. 12v with "no load" and 10v with "load" is a good indicator that your battery needs replacing. Put the battery on a charger and try to get 12.5v or more with "no load". The ECM/coils circuit will want close to 10.7-11.5 volts in order to start that engine. Ther...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

If that voltmeter/USB port device is the only thing you put on the wire, ,you should be OK with 16 AWG, , put an in-line fuse just to be safe though. HOWEVER, , if you already have 12-14AWG that you can use for that voltmeter, , it might be a wiser choice. I'm hoping one of the "guru's" will be alon...

Re: T_Birdman's '93 after-accident repairs

REALLY IMPRESSIVE JOB T_BIRDMAN!!!!! That blank-off panel (Unobtainium 2.1) with the Blaupunkt stereo looks really slick too!!! At $20 a "pop" for that radio, and all the hi-tech features that come with it, , , you're WAY ahead of the curve!! It looks like that panel fits nicely into the center shel...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

You're definitely NOT overthinking this, , , its very wise and prudent to want to know what the old alternator is doing. I wish Mother-Honda had done more to see the need, and put a voltmeter on this model from the beginning. I'm sure every rider who has been stranded due to an alternator going sout...

Re: Stereo Memory Issue

1. Take the Ignition panel off, where the key goes, , , be careful with the two "bosses" that push into the two grommets of the "forward" part of the Centershelter. 2. Remove the seat (4 bolts), , 3. Remove the two nuts that are "just" below the front of where the seat goes, ,they hold the CenterShe...

Re: Stereo Memory Issue

Check the wiring at the connector to the radio, and find the wire that is constant 12v power to the "radio memory". The diagram/schematic will help locate it.
It should have 12v even with key off.

Re: Not starting after Winter lay-off.

Do you have access to a handheld multi-meter (voltmeter?) to troubleshoot the issue?? Is the battery in a full charge condition? What's its voltage with no load? With a load? There is a very decent troubleshooting guide for "no start" conditions with the 1500's, , , check it out https://www.goldwing...

Re: Fuel Pump

The "KEY" to finding the right fuel pump for these older 1500's is getting one that is "closest" to the OEM flow-rate, AND pressure rating. NOT ALL FUEL PUMPS ARE CREATED EQUAL. IIRC, the stock fuel pump is rated at 2-4 psi and 20-24 oz/minute flow rate. With this in mind, MANY of the aftermarket fu...

Re: Kick stand

Yep, Erdeniz nailed it, , , on the 1500's the engine running AND in gear has a safety feature that when the kick stand is "down" the engine dies. Works great when pulling to a stop and you need to bail off in a hurry, kick the stand down as you stop, and set it on the stand, in gear its not gonna mo...

Re: '00 1500 SE with rear speakers and no CB/fader

You can check the VIN, (on the front right side on the frame above your forks), compared to the title VIN to make sure its the same. You can also check the VIN online for more information. I suspect that it is indeed an SE, but I wonder if the PO removed the CB for some unknown reason, , and he didn...

Re: Fuel Pump

Get the Carter strainer for the fuel pump also, , , works fine.
IIRC, a short section of hose comes out of the pump, then a 90 degree brass elbow (with hose clamp), then the remaining section of hose (hose clamp again) goes up to the flange (hose clamp).

Re: putting the rear tire back on

Usually no need to "drain fluid from the reservoir". With the caliper off, and the cap removed from the reservoir, set ONE of the old pads on the "piston" side of the caliper and use a "C" clamp to gently, and I mean GENTLY tighten the C clamp to depress the piston(s) to give the maximum clearance f...

Re: putting the rear tire back on

There isn't a left/right brake pad, , they're both the same (in my experience). Consider taking the caliper off, remove the "new" pads and put the old pads back on to see if the hole lines up correctly. If it does, then there might be an issue with the "new" pads that will only be obvious when compa...

Re: Custom Seat

hmmmm, , , ,what is in the pouch then??? Sure woulda been sweet to have a seat cover in there. Your seat sure looks like its close to a standard "size", so any "seat cover" from any 1500 seat would fit nicely. I've got an old torn up seat, I'll take a look to see how it is secured into the pouch. It...

Re: putting the rear tire back on

The top bolt has the rubber boot as WingAdmin indicated, the lower bolt does not have a boot.

IIRC, those two bolts are the only ones holding the calipers onto the bracket. Did you remove/loosen any other bolts in that same area?

Re: Custom Seat

More than a few riders have been shocked to find a perfect "seat cover" in the zippered pouch just below the passenger backrest. The nice condition of the seat could be hiding a perfect condition "cover" inside the zipper. (good place to hide a spare key too)

Re: Future Add-on's

I've got two questions that might help some folks point you in the right direction, , , , , 1.) Do you have a High-Amp Alternator installed already? If not, you'll probably need one if your "future electrical needs" exceed the OEM alternator. 2.) Is your question directed toward a plan of increasing...

With the discussions on upgrading the stereo, it'd be nice to have an idea what would replace the OEM unit. Take a look at the Pyle unit, 4X50watts and all the bells and whistles with a really reasonable price. Pyle Marine stereo.jpg https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PATVR10-Bluetooth-Receiver-Resistant/d...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

Problem solved!!! 2oz. of Dyna-beads salvaged from the old tire!! I'll add 1oz of them to the 2oz already in the front tire and use 3 oz of CounterAct beads in the rear! The salvaged Dyna-beads were 99% intact and very clean. The inside of the old tire was "scuffed" looking in the center but VERY li...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

I put 2oz. of Dyna-beads in each tire when I changed the front a few months ago. The rear is old ('01 E2) and is starting to crack on the sidewalls now, so I'm getting a new Avon cobra for it. I bought 4 oz. of Counteract beads after reading this and I'm wondering, , , , If I put 3 oz of Counteract ...
