Re: LEDs done....almost

Really nice!!

By any chance, do you have a "BEFORE" picture of your headlight to show the improvement more dramatically??

Re: What would you stick in here?

Dash88, , ,it looks like that is a "color-matched" panel AND it has the Firecreek gauges. It looks really good, and fits seamlessly with the appearance of the bike. Did you get the gauges at the same time you got the panel, or did they come later? Would you be willing to tell us when you got it, , ,...

Re: Wood trim on GL1500

The comedian in me says, , ,

"THAT'S IT!!! I'm gonna grab my chain saw, find the nearest redwood tree and chop it down, , , ,THEN I'll just carve/whittle a WOOD replica of a firecreek panel!!"

The "normal" me says, , ,

That's a good looking centershelter, panel, and dash!!!!

Re: What would you stick in here?

Interesting, , I toyed with the idea of a laser scan that produces a "file" of the part. I was leaning toward an ".STP" or an ".STL" file. Would either of those "format types" work with the software you have, , , , or would it need to be converted into a file that the software understands? I've move...

Re: What would you stick in here?

STEEL??? Wow, , they must've weighed close to 75 lbs!!! 11.5" X 9.5" X 5.5" was my guess for the dim's of those molds, , thats adding 1" per side for top/bottom/left/right. I initially planned on buying them and flying them home in my luggage, , , that would've been a big mistake. UPDATE: Just for g...

Good info and GREAT follow up Craig!!!

A fire destroying the molds?? He DID mention a fire at the friends' shop but I believed the truck driver drove off with the molds , , , , ,tragic turn of events but same result, , , getting ahold the original molds is impossible.

Re: What would you stick in here?

I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THIS PANEL (SLIGHT MODIFICATION) REPRODUCED AND A SMALL NUMBER OF THEM MIGHT BE HERE BY XMAS!!!! I agree with the "why re-invent the wheel" comment, so I contacted Firecreek in September to buy the original mold. The owner said that a few years ago, he traded the molds...

Re: What would you stick in here?

Yep, fine for one-sided pieces, , , but I don't see how to get a "work-around" for those bosses/studs. They need to be sturdy and straight, ,and the front tabs connecting to the dashboard panel would be completely missing.

Re: What would you stick in here?

I know for a fact that the panels made by Firecreek were "Injection molded". If you look at the underside of a pristine/unused panel you will see an "ejection pin mark" in the center of where you would mount each gauge. Since you would drill a 2" hole out for each gauge, the "pin" marks (1/4" dia. e...

Re: What would you stick in here?

Yes, a mold can be made, , BUT the "investment" is border-line outrageous and depends on how much "demand" is out there. An Injection-Mold is about $15K (average) but will make over 100,000 pieces of product. This would also require an ".STP" or ".STL" file from a laser scan of a pristine "original"...

Re: What would you stick in here?

That panel looks like the one from Firecreek Accessories in Olympia Wa. They also made 2" gauges (Oil, temp, volt) to mount, ,I am not sure if they still make the gauges though. THEY DON'T MAKE THE PANELS ANYMORE, and the molds are "in-the-wind" to parts unknown. You were lucky to find one in good co...

Re: What would you stick in here?

Definitely a GREAT eBay find!!! A voltmeter is a MUST for our older 1500's to off-set the lack of common sense from Mother Honda when they were manufactured!!! Your choice of Analog, or Digital, or even combination Analog/Digital. It might be a good idea to use the second gauge position for an Oil p...

Re: Honda Intercom or Bluetooth, what is better?

The HJC IS-MAX2 is listed as an "Intermediate Oval" and that's what fits my noggin best. The "round" shape was tight on my forehead and loose at the ears. The "Long Oval" was tight on my ears and loose at the forehead and back. C-dub, sounds like you might be a candidate for a "long Oval" shell shap...

Re: Honda Intercom or Bluetooth, what is better?

The HJC IS-MAX2 is a modular (flip-up) helmet with pin-locks and internal drop-down sunshade (sun-glare is a non-issue now). It has one of the highest, and most reliable "impact-ratings" on the market. When you combine the "decent" neck-roll pad with a chin curtain($15) the wind noise is non-existen...

Re: Fuelpump relay

There is no "relay" for the fuel pump, as the previous posts have stated. Your fuel pump will begin pumping fuel once the key is on and the "start" button is pushed. What was your "test" to determine you're not getting any fuel? More info about what you've done would be of great help to walk you thr...

Re: Thinking of trying this for voltmeter mount...Thoughts

Yep, they're not being manufactured anymore. I've contacted the original Mfg about getting the molds for this panel. He told me that he got rid of the molds in a "horse-trade" as payment for "services rendered" a few years back, , THEN, , the guy who got the molds got rid of them to a "trucker passi...

Re: So I learned the hard way....sometimes it pays to buy new original parts....

With the part numbers being different, I'd suggest sticking with the "correct" part number for your '93 to be safe. That top crown of the backrest is a VERY common area of failure on these beasts. Keeping it out of the sun when not in use, ,and continually wiping it down with a good supple condition...

Yeppers, , ,I was hoping a gas cap cleaning would be a nice easy fix, , , but its time to move on to the petcock valve. That DIY on the petcock is a good one, , you should be fine afterward.

Re: GL1500 SE radio on 1992 Interstate.....

The radio/cassette mounting holes on the center-shelters on the 1500's are the same as the "blank-off" panel on the '91 Interstate. A possible option is to get a "blank-off" panel and mount an AM-FM stereo with bluetooth, USB port, and Aux-In line (remote control too), mounted face-up. The power con...

Re: loses power cuts off like no gas while riding

I must've been having a "senior moment" when I said the tabs move, sorry. I checked my gas cap and YOU ARE CORRECT. The tabs don't move, , , and blowing air through the holes in the bottom of the cap shouldn't hurt any of the "guts". That "overflow" hose on the gas cap goes down the left side (near ...

Re: Thinking of trying this for voltmeter mount...Thoughts

This is a panel that's ideal to mount two 2" gauges for voltmeter, or coolant temp, or oil pressure, or ambient temp etc.

There should be a limited number of them available by Xmas. Just a thought, , , , ,:)

Re: loses power cuts off like no gas while riding

With regards to the gas cap it sounds like you're doing it right. Did you get a lot of rust/crud come out of the cap? If you're still concerned about more "crud" inside that you can't get to, , ,try less water and more vinegar. Something like a 75% vinegar with 25% water and let it sit for twice as ...
