Re: Gl 1500 engine wont stay running

Its not a bad idea to do BOTH, , , soak the gas cap in seafoam overnight seems easy enough. 24 yrs of gunk, rust and crud can be a horrible thing. You can troubleshoot the petcock/diaphragm issue if you "by-pass" the fuel petcock by disconnecting the "input" side (nearest the fuel filter) and connec...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement

Since that Jensen will work great with the stock/OEM power/ground/speaker wires, I don't think you need the fuse block. Smack already did the wiring diagram to run that unit off the handlebar controls for ya, , Removing the OEM stereo is probably the best choice, , good job. What else are you planni...

Re: Changed oils and clutch may be slipping

The Delo 400LE HAS been discontinued and its "replacement" is Delo 400SDE which is touted to have equal, or better, results. The 400SDE is working fine in my beast, but I already have Rotella T5 and a new oil filter ready to replace the 400SDE when the time comes. Mileage will dictate when that happ...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement

HMMM, , , , ,Would you consider making a "Pedestal" to match the face which might give you the clearance you need to avoid a conflict with the OEM stereo?? You could use 1/4" or 3/8" thick pads cut to size, , and stacked up to give you the clearance you want. The face is meant to sit flush with a fl...

Re: GL1500 (1993) FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT

A decent after-market replacement for the fuel pump is the NAPA/Carter P72190 with a FS0009 strainer, and 12 inches of Gates R7093 fuel line. An in-line brass elbow is sometimes used to prevent the fuel line from getting a "kink" that will prevent fuel flow and burn out the pump. These parts are oft...

HMMMM, , , ,I'm wondering about a solution to Nova's dilemma, , , , Nova, Measure that area of your centershelter that is between the radio and the gas/fuel door. There should be about 3.5" of clearance below that to the top of the air filter housing. I would bet that a small MARINE (waterproof) blu...

Erdeniz has the best advice, and the switch is not terribly difficult to disassemble/repair, , , , but use a baggie when trying to remove those little springs cuz if they fly across the garage you'll never find em. HOWEVER, , ,if you are determined to find a replacement, , , , check eBay (I did not ...

Re: Is it time for a new battery?

That's a good battery to last for almost 6 years. I'd be tempted to keep doing what you've been doing and just keep an eye on it using your multimeter. Make mental notes of volts with "No Load", and volts with "Load" at the battery terminals. While doing that, check out the "web" for any special dea...

Re: bike won,t start

These 1500's are POWER-HOGS at startup. 12v with "no load" and 10v with "load" is a good indicator that your battery needs replacing. Put the battery on a charger and try to get 12.5v or more with "no load". The ECM/coils circuit will want close to 10.7-11.5 volts in order to start that engine. Ther...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

If that voltmeter/USB port device is the only thing you put on the wire, ,you should be OK with 16 AWG, , put an in-line fuse just to be safe though. HOWEVER, , if you already have 12-14AWG that you can use for that voltmeter, , it might be a wiser choice. I'm hoping one of the "guru's" will be alon...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

You're definitely NOT overthinking this, , , its very wise and prudent to want to know what the old alternator is doing. I wish Mother-Honda had done more to see the need, and put a voltmeter on this model from the beginning. I'm sure every rider who has been stranded due to an alternator going sout...

Re: Stereo Memory Issue

Check the wiring at the connector to the radio, and find the wire that is constant 12v power to the "radio memory". The diagram/schematic will help locate it.
It should have 12v even with key off.

Re: Not starting after Winter lay-off.

Do you have access to a handheld multi-meter (voltmeter?) to troubleshoot the issue?? Is the battery in a full charge condition? What's its voltage with no load? With a load? There is a very decent troubleshooting guide for "no start" conditions with the 1500's, , , check it out https://www.goldwing...

Re: Fuel Pump

The "KEY" to finding the right fuel pump for these older 1500's is getting one that is "closest" to the OEM flow-rate, AND pressure rating. NOT ALL FUEL PUMPS ARE CREATED EQUAL. IIRC, the stock fuel pump is rated at 2-4 psi and 20-24 oz/minute flow rate. With this in mind, MANY of the aftermarket fu...

Yep, Erdeniz nailed it, , , on the 1500's the engine running AND in gear has a safety feature that when the kick stand is "down" the engine dies. Works great when pulling to a stop and you need to bail off in a hurry, kick the stand down as you stop, and set it on the stand, in gear its not gonna mo...

Re: '00 1500 SE with rear speakers and no CB/fader

You can check the VIN, (on the front right side on the frame above your forks), compared to the title VIN to make sure its the same. You can also check the VIN online for more information. I suspect that it is indeed an SE, but I wonder if the PO removed the CB for some unknown reason, , and he didn...

Re: Fuel Pump

Get the Carter strainer for the fuel pump also, , , works fine.
IIRC, a short section of hose comes out of the pump, then a 90 degree brass elbow (with hose clamp), then the remaining section of hose (hose clamp again) goes up to the flange (hose clamp).

Usually no need to "drain fluid from the reservoir". Re: putting the rear tire back on

There isn't a left/right brake pad, , they're both the same (in my experience). Consider taking the caliper off, remove the "new" pads and put the old pads back on to see if the hole lines up correctly. If it does, then there might be an issue with the "new" pads that will only be obvious when compa...
