Re: putting the rear tire back on

Usually no need to "drain fluid from the reservoir". With the caliper off, and the cap removed from the reservoir, set ONE of the old pads on the "piston" side of the caliper and use a "C" clamp to gently, and I mean GENTLY tighten the C clamp to depress the piston(s) to give the maximum clearance f...

Re: putting the rear tire back on

There isn't a left/right brake pad, , they're both the same (in my experience). Consider taking the caliper off, remove the "new" pads and put the old pads back on to see if the hole lines up correctly. If it does, then there might be an issue with the "new" pads that will only be obvious when compa...

Re: Custom Seat

hmmmm, , , ,what is in the pouch then??? Sure woulda been sweet to have a seat cover in there. Your seat sure looks like its close to a standard "size", so any "seat cover" from any 1500 seat would fit nicely. I've got an old torn up seat, I'll take a look to see how it is secured into the pouch. It...

Re: putting the rear tire back on

The top bolt has the rubber boot as WingAdmin indicated, the lower bolt does not have a boot.

IIRC, those two bolts are the only ones holding the calipers onto the bracket. Did you remove/loosen any other bolts in that same area?

Re: Custom Seat

More than a few riders have been shocked to find a perfect "seat cover" in the zippered pouch just below the passenger backrest. The nice condition of the seat could be hiding a perfect condition "cover" inside the zipper. (good place to hide a spare key too)

Re: Future Add-on's

I've got two questions that might help some folks point you in the right direction, , , , , 1.) Do you have a High-Amp Alternator installed already? If not, you'll probably need one if your "future electrical needs" exceed the OEM alternator. 2.) Is your question directed toward a plan of increasing...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement

With the discussions on upgrading the stereo, it'd be nice to have an idea what would replace the OEM unit. Take a look at the Pyle unit, 4X50watts and all the bells and whistles with a really reasonable price. Pyle Marine stereo.jpg https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PATVR10-Bluetooth-Receiver-Resistant/d...

Re: Rear tire excess wear

I recently went from Dunlops to Avon Cobra's on front and rear PLUS 3 oz. of Dynabeads in the front and 3 oz. of Counteract balancing beads in the rear. TWO THUMBS UP!!! 13K is decent length on those Dunlops though, , ,Did you have any balance beads in either tire?? The "cupping" is fairly normal so...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

UPDATE: With 3 oz Counteract Beads in new rear Avon cobra, and adding 1 oz. to the front Avon Cobra that had 2 oz., I have BOTH tires with 3 oz. of balance beads. They are running smooth and quiet.

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

Problem solved!!! 2oz. of Dyna-beads salvaged from the old tire!! I'll add 1oz of them to the 2oz already in the front tire and use 3 oz of CounterAct beads in the rear! The salvaged Dyna-beads were 99% intact and very clean. The inside of the old tire was "scuffed" looking in the center but VERY li...

Re: Dyna Beads vs Counteract Balancing Beads

I put 2oz. of Dyna-beads in each tire when I changed the front a few months ago. The rear is old ('01 E2) and is starting to crack on the sidewalls now, so I'm getting a new Avon cobra for it. I bought 4 oz. of Counteract beads after reading this and I'm wondering, , , , If I put 3 oz of Counteract ...

Ndakman, , the folks who want to help fix your problem will need more information that only YOU can provide, , , , What rear speakers did you put in, and do your front speakers work properly? Do the new speakers require more than your stereo can handle, and do you have an Amp connected? (Correctly?)...

Re: Sprag Clutch Problems

Seafoam isn't for the clutch, , , the gunked up clutch reservoir will cause "clutch slippage", , ,but clutch problems are often different than starting problems. Are you having trouble starting after engine is warmed up? Seafoam has been used as a method to clean up low-idle jets in the carbs and wi...

Re: New tire...how old is too old?

5 yr old tire with a "fair" price is OVERPRICED (IMHO)!! A general rule of thumb is a 6 yr old tire is ready to be "replaced with a new one". That 5 yr old tire should probably be a "no thanks, not at that price" by most riders. Sweeten the price and consider it a "bridge" tire to a newer one within...

Re: 95 GL1500 SE "Re-Starting" problem???

After you let it sit for 20-30 minutes after a short ride, have you tried to give just a little choke (1/4 or so)? Some of these beasts are finicky and love that choke lever on just a tad, , , then turn off choke lever after running. Your problem could be fixed by running a couple tanks of gas with ...

Re: strange fuel pump issue

Denverwinger nailed it, , , '88 & '89 had a fuel pump relay that would power the fuel pump for about 2 seconds when the key was turned on, and you usually could hear the pump. Beginning in '90 (and to the end of the "line" in '00), Honda removed that relay, and began sending power to the fuel pump f...

Re: Vibration front tire

I haven't had your symptoms but from what you're saying, , the vibration in the handlebars makes me think your front tire/front forks is where a problem might be. Since you recently changed tires, I'm thinking that the front bushing, or axle bolt/nut, or the "cinch down" bolts aren't tightened enoug...

Re: Upper fairing 88 Honda goldwing 1500

A "decent" method of checking on something like this is to go to any of the many "parts houses" and check to see if the part numbers are the same. The center-shelter for both '88 and '94 are 83150. . . so they are interchangeable. The upper left fairing for both '88 and '94 is 83120. . . so they are...

Re: Best helmet on a wing with a full windshield?

One of the BEST ways to get some badly needed air-flow is like John (AZgl1800) says, , , LOWER THE WINDSHIELD. Start with it at the lowest setting, and raise it up a "smidge" if that's too much air/wind. You'll find the perfect compromise of air-flow v. wind noise shortly. Even 1/4" adjustment will ...

Re: Only getting around 20MPG

If your new ride had been "sitting" for awhile when you bought it, it would take 4-8 tanks of gas (with Seafoam ofcourse, mixed at about 2 oz/gal) to clean up those carbs. You want to clean up your idle jets so keep your RPM's around 2K in city driving. Freeway riding is "flow-of-traffic" obviously....
