Re: Clutch Line 2000GL1500A

I converted to SS braid brake lines about a year ago and they are working great. I wondered about a clutch line at the time but didn't follow up on it. I bled the line and replaced the DOT4 in the clutch but still had slippage like you are having. I found that the return line was "gunked" up so badl...

Re: Gl1500 fuel pump

Most everyone will agree that the '88-'89's have a fuel pump relay under the trunk that gets power when the key is turned on for about 2-3 seconds and you can usually hear the pump activate at "key on" position. HOWEVER, the '90-2000's are wired so that the ECM provides power to the fuel pump when t...

Re: 1988 fuel pump test

Good to hear it running better and no problems (except the low rpm surge). I would suggest that you run the next 3-4 tanks of gas with about 2 oz. per gallon of Seafoam. It can clean out most any fuel related troubles, , , sticky floats, mucked jets etc. It won't do it overnight, but give it atleast...

Re: 1994 Goldwing GL 1500 SE won't start

I'd be tempted to check all the fuses and relays, double check the "dog-bone" fuse or put the "spare" on. Something is causing that drain at the positive cable, , it could be alot of things, but the fuses/relays are the first place I'd look.

Re: 1988 fuel pump test

I like the Rock Auto prices, , , shoulda checked em out. Good call Bluewaterhooker0!! The copper tube is a good idea too, , I've heard some use a 90 degree brass elbow with clamps at both ends too. Both ideas seem reasonable to me. I was lucky enough to make the hose connection without additional ha...

Re: 1988 fuel pump test

Yep, Mother-Honda seems to really hit HARD for those of us who still have the 30 yr. old rides. You can save 50-70% with aftermarket and the whole job is about 1 hr. worth of work. This is what I used; 1- Napa/Carter P72190 Fuel pump ($51.57) NOTE: Keep the rubber "sleeve" from the old Fuel pump for...

Re: 1988 fuel pump test

IIRC, the fuel pump relay is up above the right saddlebag, under the trunk, but since the pump is out of the bike now, the pump will run correctly with direct power to the + and green to ground. I had a similar issue with letting my beast sit for 8-10 years. My OEM pump was shot and I had to replace...

Yeah, my '91 has a bit of a "clear-coat" peeling issue too that makes it look less than original, so that might be a minus, , ,but you might do pretty well. Good luck.

Re: 89 1500 value

Your "guess-timate" of the value seems spot-on. I didn't see the mileage on the 89 though, , , is it 100k +? That would be a reasonable starting price and the obo will hopefully get a buyer to make an offer that you can get up closer to 2k. Good luck with getting what you want.

Re: Goldwing 1500 1988

Use the "Idle adjustment knob" inside the gas tank cover to turn up the idle to 800-900 rpm. That knurled knob was set to idle with those "wrong" jets, , ,a simple adjustment should bring you back to what you want for a smooth idle. Good catch on those jets!!!!

Re: question about Delo 400 LE 15W/40

The Delo 400 LE 15W/40 is discontinued in my area and has been replaced with the Delo 400 SDE 15W/40. The Mfg. stated it is equal/or better than the LE in their tests but had a higher level of, , sulfur (IIRC). I've been using the SDE for this current oil change, but I plan on switching to the Rotel...

Re: Looking for front speakers 93 GL1500A

Earlier this year, I replaced the old OEM speakers in the front with Kenwood 1065's and I'm pleased with sound quality/ fitment was great,(got the baffles too)/ and price was reasonable. I don't know what your budget is, but IIRC, these Kenwoods were $29. They are NOT waterproof though, , I don't pl...

Loose clamps on the carb boots, , , ,it makes sense now, , , I'm gonna have to remember that as a possible cause of "idle issue".

Re: Broken key in ignition HELP!

There's about a 95% chance that the keys for the '94 is NOT magnetic. I recently got a "hide-away-key" made for my '91 incase of an emergency and the locksmith said that anything after '90 is NOT magnetic. He went so far as to say that many locksmiths nowadays will refuse to make a magnetic key beca...

Re: High idle

OK, , start with using Seafoam (about 2oz. per gallon) in your gas tank for a few "fill-ups" and you should notice an improvement with that idle. I'll be surprised if you get the idle increasing to the 3k rpm mark as before, , , but give it some time to clean out that idle circuit. Yes, ,a small amo...

Re: High idle

There are a few things that will cause the high idle issue, , , , carb jet out of adjustment, carbs out of sync, cracked/leaking vacuum hose(s), air filter issues, , , and a ton of others. Can you give some background that will help us "rule out" an issue. Did you do anything recently to the bike? A...

Re: Proper tie down for a GL1500

These 1500's do not have very good anchor points and it can be difficult to "secure" it depending on the trailer. What kind of trailer are you planning on using for the haul? Flatbed metal trailer? Enclosed "U-haul" type trailer? You have to keep that front wheel straight, , , hold it in the kind of...

Re: Oh boy, right bank running rich...

Good to hear that the bike ran 650km without any problems!!! Sounds like you fixed it!! Even the smallest little bit of "crud" can clog those tiny vents and cause us problems. I hope it continues to run great for many thousands of miles ahead.

Re: brake fluid change

The front right (pass. side) brake is activated with the hand lever. The front left (driv. side) brake is linked to the rear brake and is operated with the foot pedal. Bleed the front left brake before you bleed the rear brake. I would recommend using Speed-bleeders because they make the job so much...

Virgilmobile wrote a response to an identical issue with an identical bike. He found that the "vent" on the right carb was clogged and once he cleaned it out, problem solved. Makes lots of sense to me, , ,and much better than any suggestion I could think of.

If you just remove the center shelter, and the air cleaner, I think you should be able to see the area well enough to tell where the gas smell is coming from. Re: Goldwing 1500 1988

Seems like the strong smell of gas and the poor idle, running on 3 cylinders, are happening at the same time after the engine warms up. Could that right side carb have an "issue" with the boot, or a seal that is leaking after the engine temp rises? The Tw sensor sounds OK, but did the Ta sensor chec...
