Re: Old 77 wing for parts
Passed on the wing,it's frozen solid. I tried an tried an could not turn it over. I could get a small profit out of it but not worth all the work. Even the carbs would need a complete overhaul. One guy I contacted wanted $450 plus shipping for a rebuild, for $550 total. Too much.

Re: Have I bitten off more than I can chew?
If the fairing came with a factory wiring harness it should be easy to disconnect and reconnect the wing wires. I did the same but the fairing wires were a snake pit of wires, It had about 6' of wires to go 2' and the rest was bundled up inside the fairing.I got fed up and cut it all and almost ever...

Old 77 wing for parts
Was a kick start available on a 1977 wing? I have a chance to buy a full dress 77 wing for $200 thats been sitting for close to 10 years an would make a good parts bike. I want to turn the engine over but not by jump starting. I'm afraid of either hydrolock or bad valve timing and doing engine damag...

Re: Single VW Carb
I wired both to ignition. Cutoff isn't needed,it just shuts off fuel when not in use. It can be removed an plugged. Choke is needed . an must have power when the bike is running. Good luck,I gave up and went back to stock.

Re: Single VW Carb
I did it because of the stock carb issues. I got a new solex off brand. and fabricated a manifold. I tried for two months to get it running but finally gave up. Some people have had good success but after trying many different jets it was a no go. It would idle but would not perform on the road. Kep...

coolant water in 75 GL1000
Odd problem with coolant water. It seems to be contaminated with something. It is grey an it's not oil. I flushed it and put in fresh tap water while I've been doing the carbs and restoring the bike to original naked bike from one that had a faring. it was dirty and the wires were messed up. I have ...

Re: idle issues
Everything was cleaned right off at first. The cable was the first thing cleaned an oiled an slides very easy as does the linkage. I suspect vacuum leaks but it's running good right now after float readjustment.

Re: slides
Ran the Wing today on the road. Idled good and ran up to speed. I had it running at 6000 rpms in third gear an it was pulling hard an smooth. It came back to 1000 rpm at idle just fine. Only problem was running rough at 20-30 mph in 4th. Felt like too much gas. Going to pull the plugs to see what th...

Re: slides
Readjusted the floats today and check the valves again. Pretty sure the valves are ok but double check. I've done this before on a 02 Valkyrie an it's no fun on that either. Thought I had a cracked head or crack in cylinder. Turned out to be needing to be torqued down twice to get the head right. I ...

Re: idle issues
Totally frustrated with this. Today I pulled the carbs and looked at the slides an they look ok and looked in the float bowls and it seemed to be working good, didn't remove anything since setting the float height a few weeks ago. All new jet were installed at that time. later after reinstalling the ...

Re: Not returning to idle.
Since you haven't posted anything for awhile I think you have the problem solved. Do wish you would let us know how things are going. As to the carb conversion I did it and had bad luck. The bike a GL1000 1975 would start every time but after many many tries I finally gave up. I could not get to fun...

Re: idle issues
This bike has been a basket case.I bought it 4 months ago for $750 and have put in all new parts in the carbs and am going to do the drive train. It had a Vetter fairing but was a wiring nightmare so I decided to go back to a naked stock setup. After getting 99% of the wiring fixed I worked on the c...

idle issues
My 75 GL1000 idles at 1000 and has plenty of power but will not return to idle. It goes up to 3000 rpm and stays there. Carbs are clean as is the gas. Could something be sticking or is it a needle problem? I've been messing around with this for quite a time and do need advice.

Oil in water
Looks like I'm getting oil into the water in my 75 GL1000. When I pulled the radiator an checked the water pump connection there was a grey greasy deposit in the pump area an the water was grey. This was fresh water put in a month ago and not ridden, just running in the garage during tuning the carb...

GL 1000 carb conversion
Anyone know of someone who recently converted to a VW carb and what jet changes they may have done. I'm having tuning trouble with my conversion. It idles and runs strong at high rpm but bogs down at mid range from idle to 4000 rpm an even stalls out. Desperate an need help. I gave up on the stock ca...

Re: #1 not friring
Thanks guys. I've had the carbs off several times and checked the float level and had all the jets out and they are all clean and did use compressed air to blow out all the passages. That's why I'm going crazy with this. The coils are sending spark . This is a PITA.
