We may be losing a Brother

Many of you may know Dan Marrs of Marrs Performance Motorcycles in Fayetteville, Tn., but if you do not, Dan is a great guy and has been a significant figure in motorcycling for years. A long time mutual friend of Dan's called the other day to let me know that Dan has fallen ill. I am not at liberty...

Re: 3 ohm or 7 ohm coils

Thanks for the response! I was about 90% sure which way to go, but I was just trying to nail it down. Short version is that I got a set of 3 ohm Dyna coils and they worked great. On a not so happy note, I got so wrapped up in the coils and the Weber carb conversion that I put off changing cam belts ...

3 ohm or 7 ohm coils

I did not see a current thread on this although I have seen a lot of discussion on coils in the past. What I have not seen is the definitive answer to the coils on the 1983 GL1100. I understand that it does not have a pure CDI ignition, and it seems therefore that the 3 ohm coils should work on it. ...

Re: Weber carb conversion

Thanks for the support! I considered a single carb conversion, but did not find one that I liked more than the Weber conversion. However, I did not spend a great deal of time searching and most recently, I saw some conversation on a four barrel set-up. No details, and I don't even know where I saw i...

Re: Weber carb conversion

Update: Thanks to brianinpa for the tip on the Honda Accord fuel pump. It is working like a charm! The project is 98% complete, and I am waiting for the air filters to come it. The initial start-up went great and the carbs settled almost immediately to a fairly smooth idle, and the throttle response...

Re: Rear master cylinder

As it turns out, the master cylinder cleaned up very well. I guess I dodged a bullet on that one. Thanks very much for the feedback!

Re: Removed my fairing looking for a headlight n bucket

I picked up a 7" complete assembly from Dime City Cycles and I used a set of Drag Specialties. So far, it works well.

Re: Rear master cylinder

I am sure you are right about not finding NOS item. Could you elaborate a bit on the 81 rear master and the front splitter. I know that the 83 rear master splits off front to rear after it leaves the master cylinder, and the primary difference in the 83 and the earlier models is the larger piston to...

Re: Rear master cylinder

I may be needing a new rear master cylinder, but so far have had no luck finding one. Where did you find a new rear master cylinder? Mine is an 83. Thanks!

Re: Weber carb conversion

The primary reason that the electric pump is used is to shorten start time. Weber 40IDF's do not employ a choke circuit, so the start is done the old fashioned way.....pump the throttle a few times. The electric pump will fill the bowl without cranking the engine over, where the mechanical pump will...

Weber carb conversion

Hello one and all! I appreciate being here. I recently bought a 1983 GL1100 Interstate and just can't leave well enough alone. The bike has sat for awhile and even though it starts and runs, the carbs are in dire need of attention. At any rate, I am ditching the Keihins and installing a set of spank...
