Re: '92 carb base settings

An update to this thread, After stripping the offending carb no major damage or issues could be found. It sat apart on the bench for a short time due to lack of free time to put them back together. Once I got them back together and back on I decided to adjust the "choke" cable back some where it wou...

Re: '92 carb base settings

I know that the main needle should not be providing fuel at idle, which is why I asked about the needle seat. I thought it very strange as well, and watched it intently for about 5 minutes and I can easily see fuel running up the needle and a few drops falling to the throttle plate. In all my years ...

Re: '92 carb base settings Update!

Hey everyone, As I said in my first post I have the bike running well right now. I noted an interesting find the other day, the main jet on the right hand carb is letting fuel by. It is actually a pretty noticeable thing causing fuel to puddle up on top of the throttle plate. I cleaned and visually ...

'92 carb base settings

Good evening all, I have a question for those who know these carbs well. I have finally had a chance to get back to working on the wing this week. I have it running, just not running well. It's still a head scratcher. I know they are absolutely clean, I personally cleaned them and confirmed their cl...

Re: Fuel pump math

Hey all, I learned some things yesterday. I have my wing running better than it has in a while. After looking over the carbs I decided to readjust the throttle plates. I adjusted them to be more open than they were. After that readjustment it ran to high as it is supposed to do. I did notice that I ...

Re: Fuel pump math

I just wanted to bring this back to the top. This morning I was able to confirm I have no vacuum line leaks on my 1500. I used my home made EVAP smoker and tied directly into both the right and left intake manifolds and I did not see any visible leaks. Are there any other base line settings for thes...

Re: Fuel pump math

bluthunder31 yes it is, it's the same pump and person. After I first got this bike running it always ran very rich. The plugs were black (not soot covered), but just black. It also had a surge I was trying to fix. Last September I replaced that bad pump with the one that's in it now and it seems to ...

Fuel pump math

Can someone confirm my math for me. I have been fighting with my wing the last few months. It just won't run well especially at idle, and will not high idle at all. I checked the fuel pump output twice. At the carbs the pump put out 9oz of fuel in 5 seconds. Closer to the tank like the book says it ...

Re: Odd choke problem

Sounds a lot like the clamp that holds the cable has gotten loose. There is a clamp on the front of the carb assembly and I'm willing to bet it's loose or missing. The choke mechanism is spring loaded and naturally returns to the no choke position. In order to get to it you are going to have to get ...

Re: High idle question

Isolators are brand new and actually helped fix the idle surge that it had. It may be a vacuum leak, guess I will check all the new hoses I put on. Also does the direction of blue vacuum T under the carbs matter? There is a black fitting on the T fitting, when I took it off I did not notice what sid...

Re: High idle question

Ok everyone I'm still in need of a bit of help. I still seem to be having an issue with fuel delivery, and I'm stumped by it. Even after starting it after it sat for seven years it ran right up on high idle and ran pretty well all things considered. In September I noticed that the bike seemed very r...

Re: High idle question

Gotcha. 2 turns out should make it rich then. I'll need to run them in a little then to cut back on fuel then.

Re: High idle question

Ok, so the pilot screws control air right? If this is the case then I suspect it is much too lean right now. So I'll start walking the screws in a quarter turn at a time till the high idle improves. This jives with my memory of the screws being less than the starting 2 turns out.

Re: High idle question

Oh, I intend to do an idle drop tune, but my biggest issue right now is that when I apply the "choke" it does not run up on high idle like it used to. I reset the pilot screws to 2 turns out as the shop manual I have says and it gave the response. It sounds awful I can't figure out if it's horribly ...

Gotcha. May move the carbs enough to get in the and reset the screws. And man you're right, those screws a PIA to get to from the front.

High idle question

Hey all a quick question. Do the pilot screws effect the high idle circuit? I finally got back to working on the wing the other day and got it running again. I noticed that after adjusting the idle screws the high idle isn't working like it should, it struggles to stay running something it has not d...

Re: Reverse removal

If a basic naked bike is what you want, you may want to consider selling the bike you already have. A better start for you would be a 1500 interstate model, those bikes came from the factory without reverse. That would save you a bunch of complicated work.

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Well with pump number four in and a brass 90 degree fitting installed this time my wing is up and running again. Now I'm dealing with a new problem that has not happened before. I can hear a lean popping in the exhaust. It's running on all cylinders. It idles and revs well (still with a small surge)...

Re: WHO HAS EVER DUMPED THEIR WING?

I have dropped my wing twice, both in the same weekend. Was still getting used to riding a big cruiser coming from a CB750. Went to Barber Vintage Fest last year with it and while finding a camp site in the tent lot (which is one big uneven slope) my wife and I went down. Couldn't see that the groun...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

I may not pull wrenches for a living anymore but, back then and even now I have noticed a real slip in replacement part quality. Even OEM parts are not near the quality of years ago. A fine example is the dyna ignition for a CB750 the old ones seemed to never fail guys have run them for 10 plus year...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Pump number 4 is in and working as it should. I replaced the in tank hose and put a brass 90 degree fitting in this time. It ran but, sounded awful. Much like my CB750 when it's down a cylinder. So I took the carbs off and checked them inside and out, nice and clean as I figured they would be. Decid...

Re: Carter fuel pump problems

Hey guys sorry for the slow response. 2 of the 3 pumps have failed in the same way. The first pump failed the way most do slowly on the way home from work one day. I fueled up on the way home that day and as I was riding the engine just steadily lost power and speed until it died. The 2nd and 3rd pu...

Carter fuel pump problems

To everyone who has chosen to use the carter fuel pump as a replacement to the non-existant factory ones, have you had problems with realiabilty? Last December I finally figured out that the factory pump had given up, so after reading up on replacement parts I chose to go with the carter fuel pump. ...
