Re: 2010 engine rumble

That could be the alternator gear assembly making noise. Mine went out and your sounds suspiciously the same. Your poking around on the correct side for it. Take the side cover off and if you can isolate the noise to right in front of the alternator thats your bad boy. But having said that have you ...

After 17 years it has, IMHO, given its all. My vote is for brand new OEM. Especially if you intend to keep the bike for many more years. :D

1st time I've heard it. And have been through much hotter conditions with it since bought new in 06. Who knows, maybe I only thought gurgling was coming from the tank?

So before this when your battery was "better" did you notice when started the gauges would momentarily dip down then recover? That for me is a sign the battery is beginning to take a hike.

Gas tank gurgling

It was moderately warm 75F here today and once home from a very short errand 25 miles. I shut off the bike and hear gurgling from the gas tank. It seemed towards the front where the return line enters it. But,thinking for some reason there is excess pressure in the tank. I slowly remove the cap expe...

I shut the bike off and restarted it and the bike worked, managed to get it home, have not used it since.
Have not taken it to a dealer because I'm afraid to ride it.

Re: Inconsistent Oil Level Readings: 2021 GW Tour

Well, there is no way the two readings will agree. The highest level is found after the longest period of just sitting after a ride, since the period that started as hot from the road will result in the highest reading possible. The 3-3 reading will ALWAYS be lower because you sprayed the oil aroun...

Re: Inconsistent Oil Level Readings: 2021 GW Tour

That is interesting. But, the Honda manual says that the 3-3 is their standard ONLY if the engine is not ALREADY hot. AND THEN, even if the engine IS hot, it says wait three minutes because step 2 is NOT uniquely connected to step 1. And ambient temperature is not a criteria. Results would vary fro...

Re: Inconsistent Oil Level Readings: 2021 GW Tour

Here is how I check my oil level. Bike on center stand. cold engine start let it idle 3 minutes. shut it off let it sit for 3 more minutes before checking oil. Yeah, I think this kind of standardization is key to getting consistent oil level readings. The 1800 manual says to start and run for 3-5 m...

Like many who've already written, I too am constantly amazed how the road scene has changed from when I started riding roads back in 1968. Like some of you, my legs, and reaction times are getting to a point that require constant attention. One change I've made to mt bike is to mount LED running li...

Re: Quitting motorcycles?

Maybe its time to get a fresh metal face in the garage? Have you ever ridden an 1800? If not, Im sure many have told you its completely different from a 1500 and any other wing as well. I rode a 1200 Aspencade for almost 18 years before getting my 06 brand new. I have almost 251K on it and it never ...

Not sure what manual you're using? But here are a few photos from the factory one to help you, along with a couple of heater wire photos from my wing. Make sure the left one is not under any tension as it will eventually fail. Yes the heater wires go down towards the steering stem. Yea that plate is...

My cruise switch stopped working one very very cold morning. It never worked again.

And lets not forget....nothing lasts forever. ;)

Buddie of mine in Boise tried it, he said the bike became very squirelly and scared the crap out of him. I figure if I ever put a side car on my 1800, I'd then give it a try.

You sure its new? I had that problem with my kill switch some time back..Sometimes a bump in the road and the bike just died?
Finally figured it was the kill switch..so all I did was rotate it back and forth a few dozen times and no more problem.

Hmmm good luck with the mirror not sure if you can get one through Honda?
I dropped and shattered mine a few years back and had to chase one down on E-bay.
That took a little while..So repaired the mirror with clear wrapping tape.
Worked ok.....

Welcome back...I recommend an 06 and above. Bigger radiators and no fear of a cracked frame lurking about.
Cant speak for all 1800 years but the 06 only had one recall for the rear master cylinder.

Re: 2007 No Rear Brakes

The time I had a dragging rear brake I pulled the caliper and found the area around the pistons packed with old brake dust and grime. The slider pins were also dry and crusty..Cleaned every thing and with a fresh thin coat of grease on the caliper pins.....No more dragging brakes. But what was said ...
