At stops for me, it's generally one foot down with transmission in gear and leave space for quick exit in case it looks like I'll be getting rear ended. Good job getting the bike back together. Reading the post and seeing the pics brings back (bad) memories with a 1981 Suzuki GS850 and Athena gaskets. After that experience, I said the same as you ... I'll never use Athena gaskets again.

I found the solution, i.e., little nub.

When balancing the carbs, it was obvious that the throttle spring (on carb #3) wasn't right. It looks like the end/hook of the spring, closest to the back end of the bike, hooks onto the linkage bracket (see first pic). I found it difficult to shim the needle. I didn't feel like there was enough clearance for shims and still have a responsive needle. I ended up cutting two loops from the spring and then adding two shims. My exhaust is more free flow than OEM so I also upped the jet sizes. YMMV.

I'm with Goldwinger365 because, other than in an emergency, I'd never trust a repaired tire on two wheels. Depending on laws regarding civil liability, the owner may be liable if the speed bump was improperly constructed, i.e., too tall, or there was no warning, i.e., yellow paint, signage, etc., or if the owner had prior knowledge that the speed bump was a problem for motorcycles, i.e., previous lawsuit...

Thanks, you confirmed what I was thinking. Take a left side FB bracket, rework it to fit the peg, hook it up to the OEM shifter and call it good...I hope. Will be keeping my eyes on eBay too.

Are you talking about chlorinated or non-chlorinated brake cleaner? It that makes a big difference wrt interacting with plastic, right? I only use chlorinated when the non-chlorinated can't be found and, even then, it's used carefully and sparingly...absolutely not near plastic.
