Re: Show Chrome vs Add On
Didn't say otherwise but the chrome stuff is what was on my bike...and I removed it. Like I said, I don't have an answer and never claimed that I did.

Re: traffic light stop/wait/go best practice?
At stops for me, it's generally one foot down with transmission in gear and leave space for quick exit in case it looks like I'll be getting rear ended. Having driven trucks and school buses, I don't go over the white line. Nobody should. It's there for a reason. In this state, if you cross the line...

I don't have an answer because I wound up taking all that chrome junk off my 1200 when I bought it.

Good job getting the bike back together. Reading the post and seeing the pics brings back (bad) memories with a 1981 Suzuki GS850 and Athena gaskets. After that experience, I said the same as you ... I'll never use Athena gaskets again.

Throttle Spring Help
When balancing the carbs, it was obvious that the throttle spring (on carb #3) wasn't right. It looks like the end/hook of the spring, closest to the back end of the bike, hooks onto the linkage bracket (see first pic). But I can't see where or how the other end, closest to the front of the bike, sh...

Re: Service Bulletin #10 Carbjetkits
I found it difficult to shim the needle. I didn't feel like there was enough clearance for shims and still have a responsive needle. I ended up cutting two loops from the spring and then adding two shims. My exhaust is more free flow than OEM so I also upped the jet sizes. YMMV.

Re: Tire repair
I'm with Goldwinger365 because, other than in an emergency, I'd never trust a repaired tire on two wheels. As far as beads go, I use them but here's a good article discussing the ups and downs of beads. https://www.rideapart.com/articles/254107/dyna-beads-miracle-balancing-cure-or-tire-snake-oil/ I ...

Depending on laws regarding civil liability, the owner may be liable if the speed bump was improperly constructed, i.e., too tall, or there was no warning, i.e., yellow paint, signage, etc., or if the owner had prior knowledge that the speed bump was a problem for motorcycles, i.e., previous lawsuit...

Thanks, you confirmed what I was thinking. Take a left side FB bracket, rework it to fit the peg, hook it up to the OEM shifter and call it good...I hope. Will be keeping my eyes on eBay too.

Heel/Toe Shifter
I’ve searched multiple times and found a few threads, but nothing on point or conclusive. Maybe there’s additional information out there that I’ve not seen yet. My lower legs and feet don’t operate well cuz of nerve damage making it difficult to use a standard gear shifter. My bikes for the last 25 ...

Re: Where are your rpm's when you are shifting up?
Interesting…the Owner’s Manual for the GL1200 states “Proper shifting will provide better fuel economy. When changing gears under normal conditions, use these recommended shift points: Shifting Up: From 1st to 2nd: 12 mph From 2nd to 3rd: 19 mph From 3rd to 4th: 25 mph From 4th to OD: 31 mph Shiftin...

Re: Death wobble almost killed me!
I had one mild tank slapper in my life. It'll 'wake up' the most seasoned rider. And I witnessed a bad tank slapper on a six lane highway between PA and NJ. I was in my van and watched in my rear view mirror as a sport biker was charging hard from behind. He weaved in and out of lanes moving fast, w...

I sort of figured as much but had to ask cuz, like you, I never ran into that problem with non-chlor. Sorry it ruined your plastics...thanks for the heads up on it.

Are you talking about chlorinated or non-chlorinated brake cleaner? It that makes a big difference wrt interacting with plastic, right? I only use chlorinated when the non-chlorinated can't be found and, even then, it's used carefully and sparingly...absolutely not near plastic.

I like it! That's on a 1800, right?
I'd like to rig something up similar for my 1200. Neuropathy in both legs/feet makes toe shifting painful.
The aftermarket boards and shifter...ugh, first time ever that I didn't like a heel-toe on my bike.

Re: HEL Stainless Steel Brake Lines Being Offered
If you're thinking about purchasing lines, my experience is that you shouldn't bank on the 2 to 4 days build time. That stands even if you ask in advance, like I did, if the 2 to 4 days still holds true. My payment was sent March 22 (now going on thirteen days ago) and the lines have yet to ship. YM...

GL1200 Paint
When I bought my '87 last fall, I noticed the paint wasn't great. It looked like a rough cover slid on/off so many times that it caused many micro scratches in the clear coat. It also looked like the clear was stained in places from something laying against it for a long time causing some discolorat...
