Re: loud ticking lower right side of engine...

Does it sound like the ticking in my video below? Because that was a lifter that had leaked down from manually rotating the crankshaft around after changing timing belts, fortunately in my case it pumped back up and quieted down after a mile or so.

GL1800 (2018+) DIY section

Just noticed the 2018+ GL1800 sub forum does not have its own DIY section like the rest of them. There's at least a couple of threads here that would go good in that type of section.

Re: Question about timing belt components

When I replaced mine I didn't have a spring measurement hook like in WingAdmin's DIY, what I did have though was a 3 lb. and 5 lb. weight from a set of barbells. I fashioned a hook from a metal coat hanger and hung each weight from the timing belt and split the difference between the two weights. I ...

Re: Looking for lighting suggestions, I dont mind a lot but lets not go to crazy

Here's a couple pics of what I've done, I think it's fairly visible. The two in the garage show how bright they'd be at night, the position and driving lights are the Cyclemax LED drop-in replacement LED's... a little spendy but exact fits and very bright, for headlights I have SYLVANIA SilverStar z...

Re: Looking for lighting suggestions, I dont mind a lot but lets not go to crazy

For greater visibility from the sides, converting the side markers, trunk sides and saddlebag lights to LED strip lighting is about the best there is. It is a little more involved than using direct fit replacement LEDs but it's really not that bad. The other thing I wanted to mention is if you get a...

Re: Side Cover Bolt

RockportDave that is a pretty slick way to make a functional replacement, works great and looks good as well but like you I'd also prefer to have the original type hardware if available.

Cheers!

Re: First ride with the wife, broke down 5 miles from home

Everett Powersports sells handlebar switch assemblies on ebay for about $125 or so. I replaced my good right side switch assembly while troubleshooting an intermittent no start issue which turned out to be the neutral switch, thread is here: https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=41328 P...

Re: Newbee rear speaker wiring question gl1500 96'

I believe you are correct Brian. The factory radio only has L & R output and the fader control is what splits the signal between front and rear so that would be where you want to look if you are getting front output.

Re: New to me GL1500SE, so much good info here!

Thank you! I've got about 23,000 miles on it now, I'm trying to get as many miles on it as I can and I couldn't be more proud to have been trusted with taking care of such an item. I've pretty much got it where I want it now as far as upgrades and maintenance so I'm just trying to ride it whenever I...

Re: First long ride and a sore butt

I think they did take a few rides together a LONG time ago, they've been divorced for some time now. In fact I was concerned that my dad would think it was weird me taking my mom on a ride like that (if he heard about from someone like my sister who sometimes I wish wasn't so talkative) on his motor...

Re: I'm feeling dark... new Austone Taxi Tire

I'm interested too. I've been considering this tire but was not sure about the increase in seat height. Also curious if you can tell a difference in acceleration because of the taller tire. It will be a while now before I come to the point of making the decision on this again since I JUST replaced m...

First long ride and a sore butt

Since getting my dads Goldwing last October I've been bringing all the maintenance up to date and getting comfortable on the bike making a couple of short runs and a lot of commuting although my commutes are usually 80 to 100 miles a day visiting clients around the Seattle and Eastside area. Yesterd...

Re: First long ride

I'm going on a 450 mile day trip tomorrow from Arlington, WA to Long Beach, WA back home to Arlington, WA. That will definitely be my longest trip since getting this motorcycle. When I got that flat on the freeway earlier this week it made me panic a little about getting it fixed in time, this trip ...

Re: putting the rear tire back on

I was thinking of this thread earlier today when putting my rear wheel back on. I lifted it up and it felt like it went on a little but not all the way, I was thinking it wasn't engaging the splines all the way. So I popped it in first and rocked the tire back and forth but it wasn't going on any fu...

All back together with a new rear tire. I made sure the compressor hose worked with the key in the Park position, and sure enough it was working just like it was supposed to. The lesson here is familiarize yourself with how everything works BEFORE you need to use them lol. I still might grab one of ...

Hi Mike, OK I found where it says that... it's on page 166 in the section If You Have a Flat, not in the suspension adjustment section. I thought I was going crazy not finding it. And thank you again for confirmation on the grease!

Rear tire went flat at 60 mph and a couple questions

Was heading down the freeway the other day and something started not feeling right, it started feeling real squirrelly. I was in denial for several seconds but finally relented and pulled off to the shoulder. Yep, rear tire was flat, great :x. I pulled out the air hose and connected it to the onboar...

Re: Resurrecting Grandpa's Wing

I'll be watching too, I enjoy following progress on 'build threads'. I was handed down my fathers 1500 back in October and for as well cared for as it was I've ended up having to do a lot more maintenance than I was expecting as well as fixing a couple of things. But now that all that is pretty much...
