Re: GL1100 left side smoking white

Gervais, and all others that offered help, many thanks. In the end I had to take carbs out three more times, each time bumping up the jets more and more until I had gone up 7 on the slow jets and 5 on the mains. Mac aftermarket pipes that apparently weren't accounted for by the previous owner and m...

Re: 5'5"

I'm coming in around 5'8" with my boots on, just picked up an 82 gl1100 interstate, its my first heavy bike. My most recent bike is a 2015 R3 so you can say this is a BIG difference. I feel pretty comfortable with the bike as it feels fairly well balanced when I stop, and I can be on toes on both s...

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

yes, absolutely. your alternator cannot reach his max output because it is too slow. mine is a 55 amp and enough,, i must go now, when you fit the 4 inch crank pulley you will have to take the radiator, the lower part, further by 3/4 inch because the fan will touch the alternator strap.check my picture...

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

well "I have a 2 inch pulley and 2 1/2 on the alternator that 2 inch pulley should be turning that alternator much faster than a 3 or 4 inch pulley" you have a ratio of 1 to 1 i have a ratio of 1 turn of crank for 2 turn of alternator, if i add the place i would have fit a 4.5 inch , the motorcycle ...

Re: Poorboy alternator conversion on my GL1200A

Gervais, I like you had a very hard time finding a pulley, car quest said they could order me one for 168 dollars and would take several weeks so I ended up ordering one from the UK it's only a 2 inch pulley. I hooked my yellow wire witch is ignition into a wire that I unplugged from the voltage re...

Re: SPARK PLUGS, end of life for IRIDIUM's?

i ^prefer for 40 years + a drop of new oil on the tread and screem the spark plug in place using my hand,,never use the rachet
so this way you know that you did not damaged the head tread.
my way for decades!

Re: SPARK PLUGS, end of life for IRIDIUM's?

I've heard it said that leaving a spark plug in place for too long can make it pretty difficult to remove. As inexpensive as standard NGK 5129 (DPR7EA-9) spark plugs are for the GL1500, replacing them every 12,000 miles is the probably the best option. But that is just my opinion. At less than $3.0...
