Re: Hard Starting Cold

OK. . . My 92 Goldwing Interstate has, over the past couple of months, gotten very hard to start when cold(first start in the morning). I can crank, and crank, and crank for about two minutes and run a nearly new battery down too low. Then I jump it off with my truck and after about ten minutes it ...

I got a couple HF "clicker" torque wrenches as a stop gap many years ago. I periodically calibrate them against my very accurate beam torque wrench, and they are dead on, every time. I've never had the need to replace them!
That's what I use and I find them perfect.

Re: Lets talk torque wrench

I have 2 HF Pittsburgh Pro torque wrenches and I think they are great value for the money. I have a 3/8's for mostly bike work and 1/2" one for vehicle work. Did a lot of work on my bike using the 3/8's drive one. Re-torqued tires on vehicle with 1/2 " and they clicked right at the 100 ft lbs the ga...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

You're definitely NOT overthinking this, , , its very wise and prudent to want to know what the old alternator is doing. I wish Mother-Honda had done more to see the need, and put a voltmeter on this model from the beginning. I'm sure every rider who has been stranded due to an alternator going sou...

Re: Having a real problem keeping my 92 1500 cc Gold Wing upright

I have been reading along here. I am 61, 5'11" maybe and 160 lbs maybe and I never struggle with my 88. I have even laid her over on purpose to see if I could pick her up. And did. Reading one post about bike being top heavy, has anyone road an 86 Yamaha Venture 1300 cc. V4 engine. All at the top. R...

I would order a new o ring and replace it.
Don't try to over torque the bolts to prevent oil leak. Or you may end up with a broken mount like below.image.jpeg
Have another o ring. I torqued to required 22 ft/lbs.

Re: 1500 alternator removal

It's not really hard. Just be sure to have the everything oriented correctly when you begin to install it, or it won't fit in properly. Best to take pictures before and during removal so you will have reference for installation. When I changed mine (several times) I did not disconnect the wire goin...

Re: altenator

Hoping there is someone in here with an answer for me. My alt packed it in on my 88 gl1500 a few weeks ago. It was the 707. Ordered a aftermarket new one on Amazon. Got it on Sunday and put it in bike. I had to get 2 new bolts because of the difference in hole size and changed the power bolt hook up...

Re: Helmet Quick Connect

The D rings are fine when your hands can work them, but age just causes frustration trying to them done up or undone when I have been used to quick lock so long now. Had times in cooler weather where I had to wear helmet into house to warm up hands to get helmet off using the rings.

Hey Wildwilly018,
Yes, these boots have a rubber "work" sole and they grip very well. I bought them for riding because of the rubber sole, the arch support and cushioning inside AND they look great too! They're reasonably priced as well.
Perfect.

Re: footwear

I have always wore riding boots as in western riding boot. I don't wear anything much other than western boots, but most of mine have leather soles and that isn't good traction on ground. These are what I wear. Canadian made Boulet boots. https://bouletboots.com/shop/mens/6112-5/?v=3e8d115eb4b3 Wore...

Re: Alternator problems

No that is not normal. It should read higher voltage at 2000 rpm. Somewhere around 13.8-14.0 volts. It sounds like your alternator is not charging. Take the side covers off on the left side and remove the rubber cover over the output terminal coming from your alternator. Read the voltage there and ...

Re: Alternator problems

You need to purchase a cheap multimeter (I like digital ones). You should be able to purchase a workable one for $15-$20, and they are a truly indispensable tool for working on a 'Wing. They can be purchased at any local auto parts place or hardware store. It's not just useful for the bike - they h...

Re: Video: How to get a Goldwing on and off the center stand

I am not a big guy. 5 11 170 lbs and I am 60. I ride an 88 GL 1500. I find it so simple to put on center stand. I do it twice a day. Once at work and then in my garage when I get home. I used to ride an 86 Yama venture 1300 yrs ago. That bike I could not put on center stand without someone helping o...

Re: How to replace your air filter

I have never found any mice messes in my filter. Had it apart the winter before last and all was good. My biggest fight was putting the stereo top back on. Re: Engine has 'dieseling' sound

Now I have a question since reading about these things. I know the 2 hoses that hang under bike (gl1500) are crankcase breather tubes and should be drained when doing oil change which I did. But noticed last yr that one hose was hanging lower than the other. When I took side cover off and followed h...
