Re: Lifting the Bags to access rear wheel

I actually never did get the pipes to rotate. I had everything loose but they wouldn't move. Had enough room to get the axle out just by pushing them down a little. Glad you got it done. Next time loosen but don't remove the bolts holding the clamps that clamp the mufflers to the collector. And tak...

In my post I said regulator. I meant solenoid beside battery. Hope you figure it out.

Re: Dead Wing

Maybe this won't help, but yrs ago my 88 gl1500 started acting up. Things started disappearing on my dash, music quit etc. Then it would just die right there. Right in a left turn lane once. I tried restarting but nothing. Out of desperation because of where I was stuck i kept trying and it fired an...

Re: Lifting the Bags to access rear wheel

Update: I got it to lift, seems there are 2 plastic clips on top of the fender, they kinda broke when it lifted, hope thats not gonna be a problem... As u can see I did kind of a hybrid lift and remove bags. Seems like this gives me a ton more room to work and get the wheel out (bonus-don't have to...

ISO bracket for windshield garnish

I bought the full windshield garnish off a recycler not realizing it needed a bracket that attached to the headlight bolts. Wanted to replace the polished aluminum one and plastic vented one with full chrome piece on my GL1500. But I am in need of the bracket or it is no good to me. Would anyone hav...

Re: which Highway pegs do you suggest?

I messed around with trying to get some that I bought but was having a heck of a time with the crash bars that I have. I can only put them on the vertical parts because there is not enough room between the horizontal bars and the valve covers. I think I will have to replace the crash bars that are ...

Hi Jamb85 and WildWilly018, Thanks for your comments. They will be helpful to me when I get some time to spend working my Goldwing again. I plan to be back at work with the problem this weekend. Family gathering prevented getting much done in the past few days. ezryder Best of luck ezryder. Keep us...

I also have the driver boards on my 88 and love them and the same highway boards in the pic. Sure they are Markland. They work great with the engine guard and also with the windwings on.

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

As last post. Bullet proof. I have had a few touring bike. 86 Yama Venture 1300. 2000 Kawi Voyager 1200. But nothing beat the wing. Getting older (61) I needed auto cruise for old hands. Throttle lock just doesn't cut it especially if I am towing my trailer. The comy ride for my old body. Reverse du...

Re: Problem setting the headlights to the proper height

Hi bluethunder31, The knob is rotating the white plastic base that I assume drives a cable of some time. The white plastic base rotates ok, but has "glitches" in how easy it is to rotate. Whatever, there is no movement of the headlamps. Cabling must have become disconnected. Next I plan to study ca...

I went to the Madstad site and cannot find the gl1500 listed in there for windshields. 1800 and 1200
The 1500 version is sold through Cycle Max.

Re: Hard Starting Cold

OK. . . My 92 Goldwing Interstate has, over the past couple of months, gotten very hard to start when cold(first start in the morning). I can crank, and crank, and crank for about two minutes and run a nearly new battery down too low. Then I jump it off with my truck and after about ten minutes it ...

I got a couple HF "clicker" torque wrenches as a stop gap many years ago. I periodically calibrate them against my very accurate beam torque wrench, and they are dead on, every time. I've never had the need to replace them!
That's what I use and I find them perfect.

Re: Lets talk torque wrench

I have 2 HF Pittsburgh Pro torque wrenches and I think they are great value for the money. I have a 3/8's for mostly bike work and 1/2" one for vehicle work. Did a lot of work on my bike using the 3/8's drive one. Re-torqued tires on vehicle with 1/2 " and they clicked right at the 100 ft lbs the ga...

Re: Voltmeter questions...

You're definitely NOT overthinking this, , , its very wise and prudent to want to know what the old alternator is doing. I wish Mother-Honda had done more to see the need, and put a voltmeter on this model from the beginning. I'm sure every rider who has been stranded due to an alternator going sou...

I have been reading along here. I am 61, 5'11" maybe and 160 lbs maybe and I never struggle with my 88. I have even laid her over on purpose to see if I could pick her up. And did. I would order a new o ring and replace it.
Don't try to over torque the bolts to prevent oil leak. Or you may end up with a broken mount like below.image.jpeg
Have another o ring. I torqued to required 22 ft/lbs.

Re: 1500 alternator removal

It's not really hard. Just be sure to have the everything oriented correctly when you begin to install it, or it won't fit in properly. Best to take pictures before and during removal so you will have reference for installation. When I changed mine (several times) I did not disconnect the wire goin...
