Re: Starting issue, grinding?

Thank you everyone for your help. I'm gonna buy a new starter, and see what that does.

If I have to pull the engine, then so be it. While I'm in the neighborhood I'll have a chance to check out the stator.

Re: Starting issue, grinding?

Okay checked the starter planetary, everything looked fine, nothing obviously wrong, or worn. I cleaned it up and greased it up. I managed to get it to start and let it run for about 15 minutes, and still the same thing. I added about 5oz of Seafoam, and it's still doing the same thing. I'm thinking...

Re: Starting issue, grinding?

I was going to check those out before I reinstalled the starter. I assume it's easy enough to see bad/worn gears? Should I do anything to them while I have it apart? Grease? Not grease? Etc.....

Re: Starting issue, grinding?

Okay sounds good, better than pulling the engine out etc.... I assume that's the next step if the Seafoam doesn't work.

Starting issue, grinding?

My 84 Aspy recently started to make a grinding noise, when I try to start it, sounds like if it was a car, it would be a bad Bendix, as we all know no Bendix on most bikes. After I mess with trying to start it, it finally catches and starts just fine. It makes no difference if the bike is cold or al...

Re: are the dash lights brightness adjustable

I have done the LED conversion on other bikes on their instrument cluster. The one thing I would recommend is use high quality LEDs, stay away from the cheap Chinese ones off of eBay. personally I've done all mine in red but the colors are numerous so be creative and have fun

Re: Additional lights kill the stator?

FYI For those whom are looking for a plug-n-play MOSFET R/R, Rick's Motorsport Electrics has one for an excellent price, not to mention excellent craftsmanship, and customer service https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/Hot-Shot-Style-Honda-Rectifier-Regulator-10_105H As I said earlier, my 3 wire con...

Re: Additional lights kill the stator?

My own personal experience with older bikes using a shunt R/R is when you convert the lighting to mostly LEDs is the unused power causes the shunt R/R to dump said power, which causes a lot of heat it's trying to get rid of, this causes it to fail even quicker, especially on old units. I converted a...

Re: New to the Wing

Update: The bike is running great, except for the starter is going, I've checked everything, but after 35 years, it's time has come. I will be ordering one from Rick's Electric soon enough. Other things I have done is a MOSFET R/R upgrade, I just cut the old plug off the old R/R and installed the MO...

Re: 86 Aspencade Windshield

Hey y'all. I moved the windshield (there was 1" of adjustment under the trim piece) and cut in a moden GL1800 vent. Much better! Good glad to hear that. I'm a tall person, 6'3" I went with the tallest windscreen I could find, it it worked til I pick up a used Saddlemen seat, and now I look over the...

Re: LED lights

I too had the same issue, I installed load resistor, 1 for each side turn signal. As far as the tail light warning light, I just removed the bulb behind the gauge cluster. You could also replace the turn signal relay with one for LEDs, no need to add load resistors, cutting, splicing, etc.. Just plug...

Re: Gl1200 footpegs, speaker upgrades and passenger arm rests.

As far as speakers go I used the Polk DB402, as they are a marine grade speaker, and fit perfectly in the front. See my thread for more info here https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41152 The brake issue could be a full service of the calipers, flush and fill with new fluid, etc. I ju...

Update: I've drove into the brake system, new EBC full floating rotors, EBC HH pads, Stainless Steel brake lines, flush/fill with DOT 5.1, fully serviced calipers as well. I'd also installed new sight glass in the front master. IMAG3101.jpg IMAG3104.jpg IMAG3109.jpg Next was new tires Kenda K671, wi...

84 Aspy dash gear indicator stopped working

okay this is a bit weird, but for no reason the gear indicator on the LCD dash stopped working. Even stranger is it will show neutral "N", and the neutral light works, but, put it in gear then nothing. So my question is anyone know what I should check, or any issues that is common to this problem? T...
