Re: High RPM miss/2 black plugs/poor MPG

Well, no replies on the original post but here's an update in case anybody in the future reads this. I have been riding the bike regularly for the past 5 months. Ran great but still had the miss. Decided eventually the carbs would need full attention. Either I would do it with a Randakk kit or I mig...

High RPM miss/2 black plugs/poor MPG

Hello all. I got a problem (the title of this thread) that I think has to do with the carbs. 1980 1100i 28,000 miles. Plugs #1 carbon black fouled. MPG is 33-35 at 50-70 mph, all back roads, no interstate speeds. A miss at high RPM (5500) and when climbing hills. When the problem started I though...

Re: New gl1100 exhaust

The Mac system was on the bike when I bought it a couple of months ago. Can't answer the MPG question....I am having a poor MPG/high RPM miss/black plug problem at the moment. I'm going to start a separate thread about it.

What kind of MPG are you getting?

Re: New gl1100 exhaust

I also saw that system. Was wondering about it too. I see it for $500, a hundred or so cheaper than the Mac. I have the Mac (slash cut, not turn down), it looks great and must have double wall construction as the head pipes have not discolored at all. And the chrome is still perfect, unlike what oth...

Tach glass removal

One of the 2 small screws on the tach face has come loose. I can see it laying on the bottom. Can I remove the glass face and thread that screw back in?

Re: Going naked

With new coils there shouldn't be a next time. In 30 years I'll be in my 90s.....well, maybe. I'll make a mental note about the Neon coil and see if I can bring it to the surface in the year 2048 or so. Fat chance of that happening!!! As I mentioned in an earlier post-no radio or intercom. Thanks fo...

Re: Going naked

Thanks redbug, that's exactly what I tried. Removed the small resister and replaced it with a same sized piece of thick solid copper wire. That's when I found that #3 cap had an internal break--even with the solid copper wire installed the ohm test showed a zillion ohms. So I'm getting from your ans...

Re: Going naked

I thought I'd update. Took the misses to the drags last Friday night. A ride of about 20 miles west on I-40. She loved it. Said it was very comfortable and gave the lack of wind blast a big thumbs up. I'v decided to keep the fairing. I later mentioned in a post about poor MPG. I pulled the carbs and...

Re: Going naked

Thanks Joneszy. She is a beauty...but a thirsty beauty. I figured it was carbs. Everything else is how it should be. So i guess I'll be getting sub-par MPG until I get around to pulling the carbs. Pretty sure the PO was telling the truth when he said the carbs had been done. It runs great, doesn't l...

Mine still works. Caught me by surprise the first time I heard it also. Don't really like it and was going to remove it. But reconsidered, cool old antique, leave it be.

Re: Going naked

Can I pick your brain on this MPG thing? When I bought the bike it carburetted beautifully. Starts easily, idles steady a hair under 1000, revs clean all the way up. Plugs are burning a nice tan. I checked the valve clearances and did a sync. I use the Twin Max sync tool. I did not have to adjust an...

Re: Going naked

Hey guys thanks for the compliments on the bike! It is pretty primo. Got it a coupe of months ago. Starts, idles, shifts and runs really nice. Gets 39 mpg when I ride it like a grandmaw, gets 33 when I ride it like me. But lots of long steep hills around here. I have the trunk and the original seat,...

Going naked

Hi all. I have a 1980 Interstate. I am considering going front naked, keeping the bags. I think I need the fork tube mounting pieces (2) with the top and bottom sealing gasket things, the headlight shell and ring, turn signals and the "Honda" logo that goes on the front of the lower tree, correct? I...

I know about the seat adjustment. That's not it, just don't like the seat shape. Looking for some wisdom about the 1000 style seats. Thanks for your replies.

New guy from Tennessee

Hey all. I'm John from Crossvile, Tennessee. Been riding and wrenching for a long time. Picked up a really nice '80 Interstate with low miles. I like almost everything about it. It came with a brand new MAC exhaust that is a little too loud, but I'll live with that. It has the 80 mph speedo, wish it...
