Re: UNOBTAINIUM 2.0 PANEL 83160-MN5-XXX (Firecreek style)

'll be dealing with a family issue and will be unable to send out any panels until after July 1, 2019. My brother, who flew down to California last year just to be my "wingman" after I put my beast back together, was diagnosed with bladder cancer and is going "under-the-knife" on Monday (6/17) at M...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

This is my 5th Goldwing and 3rd 1500 and your right, they are a sometimes a PITA to work on. It pays to plan everything you can do while the plastic is off, and even wait for new parts if other problems arise. I have small a garage to work in with a large shop fan, a Pitbull motorcycle lift, and acq...

What is "at work"?
That’s a cruel question!
2-3 years on this project then about 3 more years on another and I can ask the same question.

Re: Alternator not charging

I put a new 90 amp on mine and installed a new regulator in the OEM. I plan to keep it for a spare while on longer trips.

Re: Motorcycle parking at work and dog food.

We just started a new project and there are 30-40 motorcycle spots right in the front. The only two I’ve seen so far are me and a well used crotch-rocket. We have about 1/2 mile of well packed unpaved road to travel on to get in and out, so I only ride on days it definitely won’t rain. Washing the m...

Re: TT time again!

Sadanorakman, I see your point of view, but as others have stated, it’s a personal decision the racers make. There are those that say we are crazy for riding 2 wheels in everyday traffic, dodging those who are less than able to control the machines they choose to get on our roads with. I was a victi...

Re: Alternator not charging

I finally removed the alternator with much aggravation it was a heck of a time. Can anyone tell me if the dampers are separate pieces or are they all connected together. I pulled 2 of them out and from what I could see the majority of them are joined together but the 2 I inspected appeared to have ...

Re: 12” MadStad on 1999 GL1500

Rode the bike to work today. 95° and 85% humidity on the way home with plenty of sunshine. It is definitely cooler with the MadStad windshield. I get a lot more wind and with the wind wings I don’t get near the heat from the engine.

Re: footwear

I wear Bilt Pro Tourer’s I got from Cycle Gear. I have Dr. Scholls inserts and they are comfortable enough to wear anywhere. I sometimes wear them to work in the yard. I covered them with mink oil when I first got them and they don’t leak. They do breathe pretty well and are warm in our light winter...

John, you’re so right. When they are right, they just keep going and going and going... We have put a lot of miles on 4 other Goldwings and plan to put a lot of miles on this one. Hope to get up your way one day and ride the Talimena Drive again. Haven’t been there in 20 years, but we have rode it 3...

Re: Lost my key

Our local Ace Hardware has blanks that fit Goldwings and I had 2 made for less than $5 apiece. They both work in all locks. One is hidden in the bike and one is put up in the house. I would hate to loose my pretty 50th Anniversary original key, but if I do, I have spares. 48E1EDF3-44EC-4D7F-A919-DC5...

Longest Ride Yet

We bought our bike a little over a year ago and today we took the longest ride yet. I finally feel comfortable knowing almost everything is rebuilt, replaced or maintained. Put in about 250 miles. Did a lot of South/South Central Texas riding and saw a lot of Texas history. We left Rockport and drov...

Re: Intermittent Noise

Took the air shock off today and changed the fluid. The old fluid was light brown and smelled like burnt transmission fluid. It wasn’t real smooth and would slightly get stuck. Filled with Honda fork oil. After new oil, it was smooth. Put a new boot on I got from O’Reilly’s. No more noise.

Re: Intermittent Noise

I wish you have ordered the bigger size boot for Valkyries shown below. I had to replace it one year later because it was torn apart again. By the time I realized the bigger boot was a different part number,I had already received this one. With the u-joint the same size as the old one, I’m hoping b...

Got the driveline back in. New u-joint, boot and fresh Honda Moly Lube. I ordered the parts from Partzilla and the u-joint and boot were exact replacements. 16B0F5B0-780B-4D42-80D4-925BADCB299A.jpeg B668CB32-7361-4E14-A809-6E691C795C96.jpeg The old u-joint was trying to give up the ghost. Re: Gearshift

When I got my new riding boots, I had to “readjust” my foot position to shift. They have thicker reinforcement in the shifter area and now I hang my heel on the peg and roll my foot under the shifter. Got used to it after about 200-300 miles. As Doug pointed out, I would also check the shifter posit...

are the left and right camshafts the same?
I need to replace them and only see the right side being sold.
I’m also curious also as to why they need to be changed. Rusted, worn lobe, broken?

Received my new u-joint, boot, seal and moly lube. Gonna finish tearing it down tonight using WingAdmins great how-to. Will have it back on the road Saturday if all goes well. Mh434, You’re right! I doubt the Valkyrie cams will work, they are solid lifter engines and have to be adjusted every 8,000 miles.

Re: Rear tire excess wear

While removing the back wheel to grease the drive line, I noticed a nail in the tire. Their was plenty of rubber on it and it rode fine, but when I checked the date code it said 2014. The Elite 3 was notorious for cupping (wavy wear). We have a great bike shop in Corpus Christi that know bikes well ...

Re: Rear tire excess wear

I had an Elite 3 on mine and it did make the woh, woh noise, especially on the bridge and the sound resonated of the guard rail. I put an Elite 4 on it about 6 months ago and I’m very happy with it. No noise and feels better. Still have the Elite 3 on the front.

Re: Intermittent Noise

I ordered a u-joint, boot, rear drive seal and 2 tubes of moly paste. I have changed, rebuilt and flushed just about everything on my bike except the u-joint in the past year so it should be in top shape after this.
