Re: Highway Speeds

Okay, this may seem like a silly question but I have to ask. My GL1500i is so much fun to ride. It handles well through the tight twisting roads in the canyons , strong acceleration, and I just love it! I recently moved to Colorado 30 miles from Utah and riders out here like to run 85 to 95 mph. My...

Re: Time for a South Texas Ride

75°, 5-10 mph wind from the SSE. We rode 200+ miles today and it was great. We rode to Corpus Christi to take care of some business, then north on I-37 to Mathis to look at 5th wheels. Tx state highway 188 to Sinton, South on 181 to Ingleside and backroads back through Aransas Pass and Rockport. Got...

Re: Accessory terminal reads lower than Battery

I have my volt meter wired the the terminal block and it reads about .8 volts less. Coming straight from the battery you have to have a switch or relay and I didn’t want another relay. The bike has enough. I just wanted to know if/when the charging system was failing. Mine reads 13.9-14 while cruisi...

Re: New Seat for the 'Wing

Looks good Doug! We use the OEM seat and I took the backrest off for the wife to have more room. Dave Thanks Dave, she does have more room, but the driver back rest had a pocket for her water bottle and phone. Guess I need to come up with something else to hold her water and phone, she wasn’t happy...

Re: Time for a South Texas Ride

Mid 70s and partly cloudy this morning. By the time we got out to ride this afternoon it was low 80s and wind blowing 20-25 mph. About 50 miles and we came home. Too much wind and it becomes work.

Re: Which alternator for HIGH Amps?

My OEM went out in July 2018 and after trying to get a LActrical (couldn’t reach them) I purchased one that was advertised as LActrical, but when I received it, it was a WPS (World Power Systems, a part of WAI Global) sold by Discount Starter and Alternator. It’s a 90 amp and has performed great sin...

Re: Mesh Pants info wanted

I don’t have the pants, but I do like my Sedici mesh jacket. Reasonably priced, fits well with shoulder pads, elbow pads, back pad and 600 denier with mesh and CE rated. It has a zip in liner which is warm in cold weather and lets air through in the summer without the liner. The only thing I find od...

Re: 2019 GoldWing

I’m happy with my 1999 GL1500 SE I bought last year for $3,500. I’ve probably got another $1,200 in it to get it dependable and like we want it.
Those new ones are nice, but mines paid for and I’m cheap.

Sounds like a good ride. I haven’t been through that area since 1982.
Been 2 weeks since I’ve been home and I’m missing mine...and my wife.

Re: Another full choke runner

Welcome to the forum. The choke is really an enrichment that allows more fuel into the carb. If it sat a while it probably needs a carb rebuild and possibly vacuum lines replaced. Mine had sat a lot of its life before we got it and it had a rough idle and lack of power. I finally pulled the carbs (3...

Re: Timing Belt Install Problem

I tried the luggage scale and ruler. PITA. I put my belts on, set the tensioners and on the long side of the belt (opposite of the tensioner) in the middle, I turn the belt almost 90°. That is usually set right. Years back working in an automotive shop and putting on countless timing belts, from Hyu...

Re: Ever got rid of a bike you wish you hadn't?

My 1985 GL1200 Ltd. Pesonnaly it was the best Goldwing that I ever owned. It was actually gold in color as well. Less than 60,000 miles when I let it go. Thought that the 1995 GL1500 Se 25th Annaversary Edition was a better looking bike ... and it was a very good bike but still longed for the 1200....

Re: GL1500 Auxiliary Shifter Pivot

Doug,
I missed the mark the first time also.
The gearshift arm is recessed on the inside and the shift spline is rounded on the outside enough for the splines to let go and I had enough room to roll it around without removing it.

John,
If the switches on your bike are not worn as bad as the keys on your keyboard, you need to spend more time on the bike!
Wonder if Honda makes a keyboard?

Re: Engine has 'dieseling' sound

That hose is supposed to have a wire spring clamp on it. It will slip off without it because the air that comes through it has oily mist in it. It can be put on from the top, but is a PITA. I use long 45° needle nose pliers. Put the clamp on the hose about 1/4” from the top of the hose. With the low...

Re: GL1200 vs. GL1500 Advantages?

I’ve had a GL1100 Interstate, a GL1200 LTD and on my third GL1500. I loved them all. When we decided to get another bike, I really wanted another GL1200 LTD, but I’m not getting any younger and I opted for a 1500 with reverse. I’ve never been on an 1800 so I can’t say I wouldn’t love it. We just lov...

Re: ride to a stranger?

To me it’s more of a case by case answer. Seeing as a 1500 is one of the heaviest bikes made, I would make a judgment call with each potential buyer. Tire kickers, no rides. Someone shows up with the right equipment on and shows me their motorcycle license, I would ask if they have ever ridden a lar...
