Re: 98 Goldwing Opinions

Could be one of two relays, one of a handful of switches, stuck brushes/dirty, or the actual starter. There are some step by step guides here for diagnosing a no start condition. Have you verified running condition by push starting it? By 98 you get most of the upgrades and such. Is it an SE or Aspe...

Re: Jis screwdriver

I'm old (and blind) but I don't see anywhere in the link to Harbor Freight that it says the screwdrivers are JIS. That's ok it's Harbor Freight, so would you even believe them if they said they were? They change manufacturers more often than I change socks, so it would be best to just go see for yo...

Re: Neutral Light

58 is not enough resistance. So your light will be on real bright in neutral, and almost full bright in gear. Replace the switch. It should be 0 ohms and infinite ohms.

Not sure how the extra wheels are setup for that. I take it there are no brakes for those wheels? Maybe a tire scrub type parking brake could be fabricated.

Re: left turn bias

Some string and a tape measure will let you do a pretty good frame, fork, wheel alignment check. There have been plenty of articles in motorcycle mags about how to do that. I'm sure Google can locate an online version.

Cycle Max is a great place to deal with for all kinds of OEM and aftermarket GoldWing parts. Partzilla is another goto for OEM Honda parts.

What parts are hard to come by?
Pistons, bearings, master cylinders, calipers, radiator, etc.

Used parts will still be around for years to come.

Re: White smoke from exhaust - head gaskets?

As long as you are willing to do the work yourself. Some parts can be tough to find since you are coming up on 40 years old. However, most of the wear items are around still. It also depends on what you are looking for out of the bike. As a daily driver I would probably pass, but for a weekend warri...

Re: Clear coating small area

One thing you may want to look into is something called re-coat sealer. Often there is a time window where the clear is meat to be applied to the base coat and if you are outside that window, the clear can lift the base paint. Same is true for using a different formula of clear. The best example is ...

Re: New 2020 GL1800 Changes

Pretty much the same happened with the GL1500. The 88 and 89 have so many differences, they are practically different motorcycles. But even after that, there were constant improvements and fixes, some little, some big, and a few things never really fixed.

Re: Is it possible to install abs system for gl1000 1978?

If cost is not a factor, lots of things are possible. No kit exists that I am aware of. I am sure building one would massively exceed the value of the bike. Same with aftermarket brakes. Back in the day there might have been more options, but not likely to find much now. You would have to build your...

Re: CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER

I'm curious, won't a clutch master cylinder from a later model GL1500 work? I would be willing to bet it would. Looks identical in the parts breakdown. It does have a different part number. However, the piston assembly with the seals is the same part number from 88-2000. So it might just be a sligh...

Re: Oil spray from exhaust pipe

Check the needle and seat carefully. Some metal polish on a Q-tip spun in a drill will clean up light damage to the seat. Make sure there are no particles embedded in the needle. Submerge the float in gas and look for bubbles. Bench check the carbs before putting them back on the bike. First blow in...

Low on blinker fluid?

LED lights probably. Not enough load for the stock flasher. Replace flasher, or add load resistors.
