Re: Got a free 2002 Gl1800 today!

First thing I would do is go over any added accessories such as extra lights. Odds are you will find your electrical problems there. You might have to compare photos of stock bikes to figure out what has been added. But once you start taking off plastics, it will probably become obvious.

Re: Engine and frame serial numbers

If it's that bad , the first thing to do is check for minor leaks. Those hoses are old and could have cracks. Lots of threads here about fuel leaks on 1500s.

There is always the option to remove the old lines and weld in new ones.

The whole point of the charcoal can is to prevent gas fumes, otherwise they just vent to air. So you don't have a functioning CA model, if you can smell gas.

Since it's a waste spark system, in theory that would cause the cylinders to fire in pairs. Probably not what you have going on. You say you have spark, but is it at the right time?

Good luck on that. You would be looking for a bike about the weight of a Goldwing, so not much to choose from. A custom fork builder might have something, but it will be pricey.

Mostly in the trunk of the wing. Extras are in boxes on shelves. Use to keep one on a mannequin behind the front door. Would scare the hell out of people when they first saw it.

Re: Major custom in the works - What excess can I eliminate?

1 You can remove whatever electrical you don't want. Do you need a charging system? How about electric start? Show bike, track bike or a real rider? 2 They are a lot safer on the street, and not much weight savings. Again or is it all about the look for show? Or not needed at all if you go drive by ...

CB750 mostly stock, 130
same bike with 836 engine, 145
same bike with 1000cc Russ Collins engine, 162
ZX-10 with way too much money thrown at it, 189.
Well over 200 in a bunch of cars, but never had a bike that would break 200. I thought I would, but that window is well and truly closed.

Aftermarket side panels indicate that the 95 and later will fit the early bikes, too.
"These are the narrow 1995-2000 style of covers but, they will fit all GL1500s from 1988-2000"
Since you are going the other way, YMMV.

Re: Parking Brake

I would be surprised if Honda had made it so you can ride off with the brake on. It's so not like them. If so, I would just wire in a switch in series with the sidestand switch so it behaves the same. That way you could run the bike with the brake on, but put it in gear that way and it will die.
