I have had brake hoses made up by hose-man for all kinds of old or different applications.

Re: Luggage capacity comparison 1983 vs 2018

There are also these two trunk risers. https://en.goldwing-case.com/ I wonder if you could use them with a Corbin lid for maximum overkill? I bought my 1500 specifically for the capacity to put two helmets in the trunk. That they made a GoldWing you couldn't do that with strikes me as insane. I'm gl...

Re: BIG DUMMY!!

Growing up with dirt bikes, I think the kill button is a much better solution. I never use the kill switch except by accident. When I was a kid I washed my dad's 500 four one day and killed it with the switch. The next morning my dad went out to go to work, and couldn't get his bike started. Even go...

Re: Possible Rod Bearing Knock

The tensioners only move when the bolts are loose. The springs take up the slack, then you lock them in place by tightening the bolts. The springs are not really necessary as you can just push on them with your fingers, then snug up the bolts. You should check the belt tension after everything is ti...

Re: Possible Rod Bearing Knock

You may very well have trouble locating parts for a rebuild. I would confirm a bad rod bearing by measuring piston backlash through the spark plug holes, before condemning the bottom end.
Chain slap from bad sync is a known issue, and you can hear what it sounds like if you search YouTube.

Re: Honda GL 1500 Blackwing Fork Brace

I noticed the SAE hardware, too. After finding that even McMaster Carr didn't have the right bolts, I understand why they went with a close imperial thread. Now that Maryland Metrics is no more I had no idea where to get the right parts. So having a lathe I just made my own. Since they screw into nu...

That is the engine speed sensor for the fuel injection. You can find a wiring diagram under the manuals tab at the top of this page.

Sounds like a dirty connection. Pull out a volt meter and get to tracing.

Re: 96 trunk light

If it is the factory light, it is both. There is a control box that handles the low and high brightness, so that is a good place to start testing, once you have checked the fuses. With the trike conversion, it might be an aftermarket item so you will just have to trace the wiring for that.

Does it have the fuel cutoff solenoid? If so did, you make sure it has power?

Try adding two more wheels and a couple of doors. ;)

Re: carb rebuild rubber bits - alternatives

If you just need O-rings and you have the sizes (sometimes listed in the Honda parts breakdowns) you can always get them from McMaster Carr. But for a complete kit with gaskets and such I would just go with OEM.

Re: Electrical ground problem....AGAIN!!

How much current is going through that wire? What was the current rating of the plug you added? I suspect there is something drawing excess current, or you are right at the edge of what it can handle. Do you have additional incandescent lights on the bike?

RTFM ;)
This is covered in the manual. It should be on the center stand, as this makes it easier on the system.

If you don't have a manual, you should get one. It will answer lots of questions.

Re: 1984 gl1200A digital speedometer

Another option may be to use an RC circuit to momentarily press the button at power up. I use that technique on my BMW to disable the traction control when I start the car. A 2.2k resistor in series with a 470uf cap paralleled with the switch contacts did the trick for me.

Re: Nice steady 11.7 volts

First check the sense wire at the alternator for battery voltage. If that is ok, you can measure the current output of the alternator to confirm. But it looks like you replaced one bad alternator with another bad alternator. Just because it is new, doesn't automatically mean it is good.

The short black shield is part of the Madstad. It replaces the stock shield in the factory mounts. Then the clear portion mounts to that with the adjustable brackets that are part of the kit.
