Re: New 1985 GL1200 Interstate. Have some questions.

Sounds like you might have some vacuum leaks. The final drive should be basically silent. You need to inspect the splines from the driveshaft and the wheel hub. They are often heavily worn from lack of proper lubrication (Honda M-77 moly paste) Also change the gear oil and check for metal particles ...

Re: Landing Gear

Thanks for the link. They seem to work pretty good, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to ride a bike with training wheels. I will be curious to see how they do on uneven ground like pot holes, speed bumps in parking lots, and gravel roads and driveways. Those have provided me with a bit m...

Re: First gear boggy, idles poorly when cold

If you have access to an exhaust analyzer it would be nice to check the idle mixture vs open throttle mixture. You say this bike had the same problem 20 years ago? Any clue as to when it started acting up? Was it something that happened to it while it was being used, or something that happened from ...

Re: Flasher switch not staying engaged

The switch needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Take it apart inside a big Ziploc bag or springs will go flying never to be seen again.

Re: gl 1800 final drive service

Gear oil type and quantity will be listed in the owner's manual. Use M-77 paste on the driveshaft splines. Clean off all old lube and apply a thin film of new M-77.

Re: First gear boggy, idles poorly when cold

Sure sounds like carb issues. Did you use OEM jets? Several folks have reported that their aftermarket jets were nowhere near the size marked on them. Unless the carbs had extreme water damage there is no reason to replace the stock jets, and if they do have water damage, the carb bodies are usually...

If there was a starter ground problem, it wouldn't start either. Ther is a pretty good troubleshooting tree in the factory service manual. I bet it's one of the safety switches.

You can see them here. But it doesn't look like they make them for the 1200 anymore.

Many of the trike people swear by them as it makes the steering much easier and smoother.

Are you sure you want to fix that?

I would start by checking the connectors under the seat, they might be dirty. Next would be the passenger volume/PTT box, dirty switch contacts.

Yup, just the bottom. Only two are required. There might be something in the back section, item 22 but that part isn't listed.

Re: NEED HELP/IDEAS

If you go back years instead of months you will see this issue comes up from time to time. The standard test is to swap the left and right knock sensors. If the code moves with the sensor, you need new sensors. If the code stays on the same side, you check the wiring. If the wiring is ok, time for a...

If you change to a Series Regulator, that will take the take the excess load off the stator and it will last the life of the bike.

Honda uses the A all over the place, and so people often refer to them as 1100, 1100i and 1100A. Always better to provide as much info as those older ones had a lot of differences between years and models. Screenshot 2024-07-07 165927.jpg Not sure about differences. That has come up a few times before. I would vote no on cutting, that's a hack maneuver, Bubba would do. If you search here you can find where you have to go to get some slack. It's not easy but it is doable.

You're right. What we need is Allen Millyard and his V-10 Viper bike. I believe he just set the two up land speed record with it.

Re: GL 1500 parasitic draw

Sounds like your battery is toast. You can do a capacity test to confirm but the numbers you provided tell the tale. My 1500 measures about the same as yours 5 - 6 mA parasitic drain. With the stock 21Ah battery it should take around 87 days to drop the battery to a 50% state of charge and 140 days ...

Re: Different trailer

Was going to suggest mount snow plow marker kits. You know the bright colored red or yellow flexable about two foot high items on outside edges of the blades. They would bolt on. But Pool noodles are cheaper and they would not hurt you or your Wing if you fell over. Have to cut them to mount where ...

A one man operation? You must be one BIG man! I wouldn't THINK of trying that. I'd end up dead on the ground with the bike on top of me. Maybe just a little crazy. I think unloading it solo on a gravel drive might have taken a year off my life. From now on I'll seek out some level concrete for load...
