Re: Silly question. Can I remove the air shock if it has air in it?
You can, but then how will you refill it? Sounds like it might be time to repair the air suspension, or just leave it be if you can't do that right now. With the bike raised and the swing arm free, you should be able to remove both shocks. Last time I did it I seem to remember they were not exactly ...

Re: Overlooked carb detail?
If you look around here there are a lot of topics covering float level. It is a big deal with these carbs. Honda has an angle spec as the weight of the float is too much to just invert the carbs, because of the spring plunger on the needles. So yeah, you want the float tab to contact the needle and ...

Re: 2001 GL1800 ECU repair
Depends on what your actual problem is. Either you have the skills to diagnose and repair or you don't. I seem to recall a few folks have fixed an output driver, but nothing in the logic. I'm pretty sure it is mostly old skool analog not a digital map system, so not a lot of info out there. Few tech...

Re: A different Start Issue
Get a test light or meter and trace the power from the battery to the starter. Find out where it stops. Just because a relay or solenoid clicks doesn't mean it's working. Unless you can see or hear electrons, visual and auditory inspections just don't cut it. Measure and be sure.

Re: New (to me) Goldwing with a few questions
Don't rule out cable stretch. Every cable operated Honda I have owned, needed a clutch cable at some time. More than one broke out on the road too. Always fun to ride home without a clutch.

Re: Nuts bolts and screws
The Honda parts diagrams often list the bolt sizes and number of them required. That can often be enough to help sort things out. Otherwise you have to channel your inner engineer to figure out what is required to do each job. Just like when you get a basket case to put back together. I have lost co...

First check the gas cap vent. They can often be fixed by soaking in cleaner.
Next ride around with a fuel pressure gauge to confirm fuel pump operation.

Re: 2001 GL1800 that needs a lot of love
IAC is a pretty easy part to test. You can also check that the ECU is sending control signals to it. If it's an electrical fault the ECU should throw a code. If the valve is jammed or plugged up, it might not throw a code. Some IAC valves have feedback and do and some don't.

Re: `1994 GL 1500 charging issues
Cruise switch is gunked up, a common problem. Usually stuck off. Stuck on is not really a problem. Did you put in a new battery? 1500s need almost perfect AGM batteries to start reliably. Measure the charging voltage @ 2000 rpm before condemning the alternator. Measure current into a dummy load if y...

For the cruise check the clutch, brake, and throttle switches. The clutch switch is often the cause. No idea about the bulb check issue. The LCD controls that.

Re: Start issue
My guess would be poor trike wiring. Since it is intermittent, you might want to keep a test light or voltmeter with you so you can perform some basic checks next time it does it. Or trace out all the lock outs Greg listed and make sure they are all good.

Did it ever run?
Losing both coils at once is not likely.
With power at coils check for ground signals going to the coils. You can also test the coils for output by providing your own ground signal with a jump wire.

Re: Bike won’t start
There is a master "dogbone" fuse that can crack. It won't look blown, but will fall to pieces when you take it out. Otherwise, get a test light and check power and grounds.
