Re: Tire Replacement
For what it's worth op. I recently installed Avon Cobras, cheapest I could find with good reviews front and rear. So far great when dry and when wet. Only got about 1k miles on them though so not sure about the long term treadlife. Look great though, and price is right. I paid a shop to mount and ba...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
You guys are all correct on the relay and fuse. I will get to it soon lol. Stereo has a factory 15amp inline fuse also. Rode to work and back in the rain today radio worked fine on factory 5amp acc port. But it was also 20 degrees cooler today as a cold front came through. Thank God, it feels good ...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Also as a reminder, the buttons suck. Even more so now that I rode the bike with gloves per normal. Bad choice of stereo lol..... Dang, I was looking at that one, as a good solution. I was planning on hooking up the stock handlebar switches to the remote port, so maybe that will make the bad button...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
I would not go from a 5A to a 15A without knowing how the factory fuse block is made. Since the fuse is right next to the terminals I would guess that there is a pretty substantial strip of metal connecting them. But that is just a guess. It could also be a super thin bus that will melt above 5A th...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
DAAYYUMMM, , that marine radio mounted on that blank panel REALLY looks GOOD Novawing!!! Looks like you did a fine job with making the "cut-out". Does that Jensen come with a "template" to help with cutting out the right size hole??? I wish I'd found that Jensen radio before I s...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Looks like only 5amp? Can I up the fuse? I haven't decided on a fuse block yet, but the stereo is ready to install. Just add a relay to the acc terminal, then you can use it to switch the 15amps your stereo needs. Many fuse blocks have provisions for that type of relay so you can take care of all t...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Updates coming! A dumb question first.... Has anyone powered a marine grade or any car stereo off the single available accessory port on the left factory fuse block? Looks like only 5amp? Can I up the fuse? I haven't decided on a fuse block yet, but the stereo is ready to install. Dam, cutting this ...

Re: Broken Trunk Lid restraint cables
When I got my wing 1 week ago I noticed both of the cables that stop the trunk lid falling backwards were broken, ther're still available on my side of the world at 8GBP each,so I set about making my own.DSC02095.JPG I used some electrical wire and a piece of 6mm alloy tube, cut 4 pieces and drill ...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Since that Jensen will work great with the stock/OEM power/ground/speaker wires, I don't think you need the fuse block. Smack already did the wiring diagram to run that unit off the handlebar controls for ya, , Removing the OEM stereo is probably the best choice, , good job. What else are you plann...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
I have pulled both the CB and the radio and have done something very similar with a Bluetooth only head unit going back to an equalizer and power amp. New 5.5 in with 1.5 in crossover in front with 4.5 speakers in back. Will send in pics as soon as I have all installed. One question to the group. S...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
HMMM, , , , ,Would you consider making a "Pedestal" to match the face which might give you the clearance you need to avoid a conflict with the OEM stereo?? You could use 1/4" or 3/8" thick pads cut to size, , and stacked up to give you the clearance you want. The face is meant t...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Update, So this actually is the thread I started about my radio replacement....... So, the new Jensen unit arrived, see pics. Cost about $175 delivered. It's not cheap, but it's good quality and heavy duty rated. Cheaper then some other options. It's going to be a minute before I have time to come u...

Re: Changed oils and clutch may be slipping
So I recently switched from Delo 400LE to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-40 high mileage and I think my clutch may be slipping. When I try slow speed tight turns the bike lurches (is bobbing up and down) turning right or left. It could be something else but my first thought was the oil switch may be causing...

Re: From a Wing to a Burgman?
OP, My last bike before my GL1500 was a 2006 white Suzuki Burgman 650 standard. I am 255lbs. 6 ft 1in. Wife is 5ft 6in 140 tops. Seating sucks, always sliding forward. Needs custom seat, I used a cushion. Loved the forward leg room and always rode legs stretched out like I was in a bobshed, felt gre...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
You don't need the depth it would fit fine at the stock radio depth in fact the Jensen is thinner than the stock one. Right, but I was thinking leave the factory radio, add the cover, because doesn't it attach to the radio not the shelter? Then add another cover on top of that to get the clearance ...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
Sounds like you would be best served with the unobtainium 2.1 panel. Then you would still be able to use the cover over your new stereo. Unfortunately you are now exactly right. However, I still have other more important $100+ items I need to buy for my bike lol. I will fabricate a solution of my o...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
I removed the stock radio, as I am not sure there is clearance with it in place. I used the cover because it was available (the unobtanium 2.0 was not available at that time). I kept the stock stereo on my toolbox for a conversation piece it seems. I ran new speaker wires and used a donor (junker) ...

Re: GL1500 stereo upgrade/replacement
HMMMM, , , ,I'm wondering about a solution to Nova's dilemma, , , , Nova, Measure that area of your centershelter that is between the radio and the gas/fuel door. There should be about 3.5" of clearance below that to the top of the air filter housing. I would bet that a small MARINE (waterproo...
