Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Late update: Carbs back in, wasn't as hard as people said. Coolant lines were a bytch, and front right lower airbox hose was a minor issue. Here's the trick for that..... Come in vertical with your 90degree long needle nose, grab the hose about 3-4in down it. Pull it up as far as you can with air bo...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Update: Carbs are "rebuilt" and back together. Saturday they go back in the bike. Really wasn't that bad, just need a clean open space and pics for reassembly. I still wouldn't want to rebuild the whole thing, jets and all. Take note, the top plate screws and bottom cooling plate screws are soft and...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

That's why I took it apart, that and the still unidentified coolant leak, which I am hoping was just non tight hoses, and the tech said a cap in front of the carb area is know to rot and leak. But my sweet smoke was coming out the sides of the engine around the valve covers kinda , it's hard to fix...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

One last thing !! - Make sure if you are rebuilding your carbs you use a randakks kit - paste the link and go have a look - There are a lot of **** kits out there on the web - I think most ppl on here would say that this kit is the best - https://www.randakks.com/randakks-own-gl1500-master-carb-ove...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Alright. I was able to find those hoses on partzilla using the tubing catalog lol. Everything is ordered and processing, $287 worth of crap just for the carb and hoses  Definitely not paying to have the carb rebuilt this year at the dealer lol. Spent my new tire money on this, was expecting m...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Hi Snowmoer, Thanks for the heads up on this! I was not able to locate the fuel lines on Partzilla, unless I am doing something wrong? Also where do i get the parts fiche for those metric sizes? I believe some one sent me the manuals by email once, but don't recall anything about parts fiche..... T...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Yes that item #1 is for the gasket set that contains the fuel bowl gaskets. The first one is right I think... they list those differently because they have been superseded by another part #. You could click on the chat button and ask them if you are unsure. The guy that was in there before you work...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Just a heads up on all of the hoses on the carb. All of the vacuum hoses for that mater. They are metric . You will not find these at your local auto parts store. Non metric hoses are either just a little to big, or just a little to small. The big ones can cause a leak over time, and the small ones...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

The gaskets you are looking for come as a set of several different ones. It is item #1 in that diagram and you will have to get two of them if you want one for each carb. On the vacuum lines, I think you are going to have to get them from a parts store and make your own. There are 3 or 4 different ...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

There will be no adjustments made to anything if you only replace the fuel bowl gaskets. You just remove the screws (4 of them I think) from each bowl and remove it. Then replace the gaskets and put the fuel bowls back on. Done. Be careful with the floats while you have the bowls off. You don't wan...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

If it was me, I would at least consider putting new fuel bowl gaskets on there while you have them in your hands. Judging by where you said you saw it dripping fuel and by what I saw on mine when I had them down, that is where your fuel leak is. That is my suggestion anyway. Prudent advice is alway...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Personally I went with the Randakk kit. It is around $100US and will cover all years (88-00) if I read correctly. I initially bought it for my 1990 SE carbs. I had to get a new used set of carburetors because the mixture screws were ceased solid in the original set. Just got a set from a 1999 which...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

For that price it better be the complete accelerator pump. I gave like $25 for a kit to rebuild mine. Exactly, that's why I am asking around. If I pay $80 for some rubber o-rings ima be pissed lol. Seems like it is the complete deal, we shall see. Once I figure out about the hoses I will be placing...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

It seems it is the complete assembly. I looked on Partzilla and it shows the same thing but it is cheaper. Here is the link. https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/16021-MW8-000?ref=acdfd40f4e88071a7deeffb54843cb33862a4972 Hi Bellboy, Thanks, yea I looked at that, just the name makes it seem like ...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Used to be a GL tech selling parts on Ebay a few years back. He had the most complete correct carb kits you could get. I got the kits for my 89 and they had the corrected jets that stopped the low end bog. They had the mixture screws and slide/diaphragms even floats. It was an expensive kit but I w...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

For reference, this kit would include all but it says fitting only for models 1988, 1989 and 1990. Which is correct?? You won't find this available anywhere else. Sourced for the best available parts from 3 continents and combined them in a unique combination that represents real value. Kit is appr...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Thanks both of you! More information: The screw is tight, not loose. The tab it goes through is broken off at the end. Yes, I see now there is a hose holder that is also missing...... Thanks for your pics and links both of you! You are saying there is nothing that can leak from this screw? Then that...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

I'm not sure what you are seeing that you think is broken. Can you mark up the picture to indicate where you think the trouble is? Hi Bellboy, Zoom in on this Pic, can't miss it. Totally broken. Arrow shows where I feel the fuel was dripping from, I could be wrong, it seemed center right of carb lo...

Re: Auxilery Driving Lights

Again, I'm new to Goldwing's. I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't see any information on it. What I'm trying to do is to hook up extra driving lights to my 1998 1500SE. I see that most people have a "bar" mounted under the headlight. I'm looking for that bar. black instead of chrome is ...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

Has anyone looked at pic #7 in my first post? What do you all make of this? It clearly looks broken. This is in the area of where i saw fuel dripping, could this be the cause? Do I need a new carb, or a new piece of the carb here? This has me worried as carb is complex and I am going to the trouble ...

Re: Trouble with carbs and vac lines, pics included

The carb drain hoses are connected together with a tee fitting and then one of those lines coming up from the bottom connect to the tee and it goes down under the bike. Here's a picture of how they connect together at the bottom of the carbs. I made this picture when I had the bottom and top plates...
