Re: vacuum module on pulse generator
Finally got it out for a road test.... If your vacuum advance is disconnected and it doesn't make any difference, FIX WHAT'S WRONG. I've always thought this bike was kind of a cow, and thought it was because my other bike has so much more hp. Nope, it was because the dang vacuum advance was disconne...

Re: front end noise
I think I had the same thing, mine got better when I lubed the cable, but came back pretty soon.
If you haven't tried reaching in and moving the cable around while the motor is running, do that, you may get the info you need.
I have to replace mine, it's still making kind of a whiny whirring noise.

Re: vacuum module on pulse generator
First, I guess I need to find out how to test the vacuum unit. Seems really odd that it wouldn't be an important part, disconnecting the vacuum advance on any other four stroke motor severely affects performance. I keep hoping to discover that thing that'll make this bike accelerate like an 1100 LOL

Re: vacuum module on pulse generator
That’s where mine goes #3 carb. Had disconnected for awhile and did not seem to affect performance . Forget why I disconnected but have together now and runs fine. Have an 82 Interstate. Thanks, Winnipeg! I haven't road tested, but found that there was about 5-7 in. hg vacuum on that nipple at arou...

vacuum module on pulse generator
I need info on where the vacuum tube from the booster module on the pulse generator is supposed to go. Walked by my 83 this morning and it was on its side stand, noticed the vac. module and wondered what the heck it was....ok, I found out a little about it, but the vacuum tube, as far as I can tell,...

Re: Used Prices on GL 1500s in the toilet
I am of the philosophy now (believe have . I say sell it and sell it quick and don't worry about it any longer. Take a loss, but let someone tell the world what a good deal they got and they will probably give the bike the love it deserves. Sell it now, and sell it cheap... or don't.... I am just s...

I don't know if it's helpful, but there is a wiring diagram in the DIY section of this forum.

Ain't that the truth! I've often got things for great prices just by saying well, it's worth what you want, but here's what I've got to spend on it.

Re: Used Prices on GL 1500s in the toilet
$1200 for an 89 Aspencade with 9k miles seems hard to believe. You must have misjudged the market. No that was for a pretty beat up one on ebay that sold for 1200 I wouldn't take less than 4 times that for mine If I DO sell it'll be in the $5000 range and if no one wants it for that who cares is my...

Re: Used Prices on GL 1500s in the toilet
The CB isn't the kind of bike I would probably go for, but I really do get it about the nostalgia factor. People are buying bikes either because they rode that sort of bike when they were younger or because it's just cool and old school. Many millennials are very aware of what was cool and classy th...

Re: Used Prices on GL 1500s in the toilet
Here's the thing about older bikes, that I learned from not only rebuilding a bunch of old International Harvester vehicles, but also going over my 83 GL1100 Interstate- no matter how clean it looks, rubber goes bad over time. Hoses, seals, brake lines, on and on. Yours looks like it was really well...

Re: Questions regarding "older" men and Goldwings
Think of it this way- it doesn't weigh anything, all the weight is on the ground, through the wheels. What I mean is, you shouldn't be lifting the weight of the bike in any way, it's designed to stay up if you give it half a chance. If you're feeling the weight, in almost every case you need to refi...

Re: Headlight wires
Good place to start is google "wiring diagram gl1100" and print out the jpeg
It's helped me a lot in tracing problems
I had to tear out a lot of spliced in junk wiring when I got mine

Re: Headlight out- suggestions?
Starter button needs cleaning. When the starter button is pressed it disables the head light and energizes the starter solenoid. Thanks Indiana (spent my childhood in Franklin) that was it, contacts were dirty. I hereby propose the first law of GoldWingery, or maybe gl1100s- if it doesn't work, it'...

So, bite the bullet and just take it apart? Ain't rocket science I spose...rocket science isn't rocket science either, according to rocket scientists...
Anyway, thanks, I can do that.

Headlight out- suggestions?
I noticed after a ride that my headlight was out- all other lights are working normally.
Fuse is good, fuse holders are clean and have 12v both ends, fuse is good.
No power to hi/lo switch
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

no power to hi/lo switch
Before I start tearing things apart, I thought I'd ask for ideas. Noticed the headlight was out after a ride, so far I've checked for power 1. At the headlight. No. 2. At the hi/lo switch. No. 3. At the fuse block, cleaned fuse holder as well, power at both ends and in both holders, fuse good. Who h...

Re: Greetings and tips for first big bike
Somebody mentioned turning the bars to the right, I saw a small woman do the coolest thing in a video demonstration. She picked up a big, big Harley that had been laid on its side, using the technique that is described in diy section in this forum, but she also demonstrated getting up off of the sid...

Re: Greetings and tips for first big bike
That is nuts. I hope the owner of the dog treated you right. I got to the point pretty quickly where I can do slow speed maneuvers at full lock in the parking lot, because of the longer wheelbase it's actually quite forgiving once you come to terms with the sheer weight of the bike. It really comes ...

Re: Greetings and tips for first big bike
Hope you're enjoying that bike! I took 30 years off to raise kids and then bought an 83 GL1100. I really get you, it was a lot of bike to start over with! Nothing helped me as much as the ride like a pro videos, you can buy them but most of his instruction is available for free on his YouTube channe...

Re: Sticky brake lever
Thanks to all who responded. I found out a couple things during the process, first that putting it on the center stand and reaching it across was a lot easier than trying to get under the bike, second that getting that cotter pin out is the worst part of the job. I didn't have to disconnect the clut...

Re: So I'm a moron....Gl1100 timing belt
I tried so hard to get the sprockets to stay in place, and finally just compensated on one of them, put it on one or two teeth off, and made sure it was right when it was on and tensioned. It's a little funny doing it that way, but it's easy to make sure everything is right, by the marks. You'll get...
