All I can do is tell you that the shut-off valve is still working fine, with no problems so far. Sounds like it would be an good solution to the problem you described.

Yes, the warning lights can be seen over top of the panel...........there is still room enough to lower the panel if necessary and the other option would have been to build a totally flat panel.............good point about not being able to pass an inspection, I don't have that problem, no inspectio...

Any chance you would have a picture of the break...........I checked mine out as best I could, kinda hard to see in the space where the ladder bars attach to the front..............I did notice that on the right side there was 0.010" clearance between the ladder bar pipe and a weld on the bike ...

I ended up using a short 1/4" large screw head bolt with large washers on either side of the hole.............holes are behind the seat and not visible.............

Reread your post......not sure what ladder racks are............I was referring to ladder bars on the rear end which holds it aligned with the pivot point...........thanks

Success!!.......................I ended up using the method which required drilling holes in the back of the trunk and then using a long reach screwdriver. I just posted a DIY article on this adventure that will hopefully help someone else who does not realize the pearls of taking off the latch plat...
