Re: Selling my 39k mile 82 wing

the market may be different where you are, but for a non-running "old mans bike" in the middle of a great lakes winter, $1800 sounds wildly optimistic.

Re: Carburetor Leaking Fuel

while you are in there, put a q-tip in your drill, dip it in valve lapping compound, hand cleaner that contains pumice, toothpaste or carb cleaner and give that brass float needle seat a nice cleaning. rinse off any residue and it will be bright, shiny brass.

Re: Leaking fuel

carb synching only smooths out the idle. can't cause fuel leakage.
most likely cause is inlet needle not seating.

Re: Only right carbs getting fuel

yes, but it seems to me that if they weren't there, there would be fuel spilling all over the place.
you didn't specifically say, so i have to ask ... did you look/spray/blow through the crossover tube to ensure that it is clear ?

Re: Leaking fuel

yes, try to figure out where it is coming from. if it's from the overflow, then sometimes a few quick raps on the float bowl(s) with the handle of a screwdriver can help the float needle(s) get seated.

Re: Not sure if fan turning on Gl1100

all 3 of my gl1100s seemed to kick in when the gauge was at almost exactly halfway. try running it in your driveway until it kicks in. if the gauge creeps up significantly beyond the halfway mark and the fan still hasn't kicked in, disconnect the fan connector and apply 12v and ground directly to it...

dry or with a thin film of silicone, your choice. as stated, it's crucial to have clean, smooth mating surfaces.

Re: 1981 Honda Goldwing gl1100

my 1980 - 1983 factory service manual says it's on the backside of the gauges, but i read on another goldwing site that some (1982) have it mounted below and behind the steering weight, and by all accounts it's a beast to get at. hope this helps somehow.

steering weights for free

i have a couple ... maybe 3 ... of the gl1100 steering weights. probably not much demand for these as most people seem to go naked, rather than the other way ... but if anyone can use one ... or two you can have them for free plus shipping. shipping anywhere would probably be nasty but i wanted to c...

Re: gl1100 carb ?

float height is critical because too high a fuel level will result in that carb serving up a fuel/air mixture that is too rich ... too low = too lean.
that said, unless somebody has been messing around in there, the float height is probably, but not necessarily, ok. always check.

Re: gl1100 carb ?

yes, the floats stop fuel flow by lifting the float needles up into their seats. did you clean the seats ? i have been getting good results by putting a q-tip in a drill with a little bit of "fast orange" on the q-tip (fast orange is a hand cleaner with bits of pumice in it). a few seconds of this a...

thank you for the feedback on this. i probably should have gone to an automotive store, but i went to home depot and picked up a can of "klean strip". all of the other products seemed to be for wood only. will put up before and after pics to let you know how it goes. p.s. looks like nobody ships tha...

seeking paint stripper recommendations

i was about to take the first baby steps in my polishing career when i noticed that ... 1) the spare valve covers that i was going to practice on appear to be chromed aftermaket products; 2) found some spare (painted) timing belt covers to practice on and realized that the can of paint stripper that...

Re: Gl1000 if I open the fuel valve engine stops

try this the next time you have the carbs apart ... put a q-tip in a drill and put a dab of a slightly abrasive substance on the end of the q-tip ... some use valve lapping compound, i like hand cleaner with pumice in it, some say toothpaste works ... a few seconds of this and those needle valve sea...

Re: Turn signal housing removal and bench rebuild....has anybody done it?

an actual "rebuild" is not possible as the internal parts are not available (in fact, the entire assembly is shown as "not available" at partzilla). so your best shot at a fix is to disassemble/clean/lube the contact points. make sure the bulb sockets themselves are not ready to crumble from 40 year...

" So i have green neutral light on. thats them. you should be able to pick them out with a small screwdriver, or just leave them in and re-use ( risking a small exhaust leak, but it worked for me the first time around), or just put new ones in over top of them.

Re: Running off Cylinders 3 and 4

manufacturerers haven't given out actual compression values for years, but your numbers are excellent ...no worries there.

you say that you have cleaned the carbs but i have to ask ... did you remove the idle jets and ensure that the extremely tiny passages in them are clear ?
