Re: Need motorcycle, trying to find financing or other option

i was never that good at actually making money, but i have always been exceptional at managing what money i did make ... to me this is an absolute no-brainer. work at your new, good-paying job, drive the car that you currently have, SAVE money until you can afford to pay cash in full for a good runn...

Re: dead horns ... fixable ?

i was wondering what that screw was for. played with it a bit and got one of the horns to make a sound like a sick canada goose. these horns are dead.

Re: dead horns ... fixable ?

well ... the question is more of a ponder now, as i found a FIAMM horn in my hoard which, by itself, is more than equal to 2 stock gl1100 horns.

dead horns ... fixable ?

3 gl1100's ... 6 horns total ... 2 of them dead ... 1 of the dead ones is dented.

of course i could just spread the wealth and have 1 with 2 good horns, and the others with 1 good horn each, or go to ebay and spend some money ... but we are here to fix things, yes ?

any way to fix these things ?

Re: Oil Change.... All Oil Leaks Out

before you put a wrench on those plugs you should spray them at their bases with pb blaster or something similar. let it soak in overnight while you determine where the oil leak is. source of oil leak should be your primary concern right now. wipe the engine down, spray with degreaser, wipe down aga...

i would loosen the next banjo bolt up stream and see if fluid is moving though there, if none, keep moving upstream.
there may be better troubleshooting methods, and if so, someone will likely chime in .

seriously cold-blooded

i have done enough reading here to know that these old wings are considered cold-blooded animals, and today i learned to take this seriously. went to take wing2 for it's first 'real' ride this morning and as soon as i shifted to 2nd gear it began some serious hesitation and even stalling. re-start i...

Re: front brake master cylinder reservoir o-ring

yup, thats the part number i needed. funny thing is, they are available all over the internet, yet none of the parts diagrams listed it, although they did show it in the diagram.
thanks again, very helpful.

Re: front brake master cylinder reservoir o-ring

well, my dealer sold me exactly the part that i ordered (45516-166-006) ... but i ordered wrong. i will look up 45516-422-006 and see what that looks like. the dimensions you have given (39.7 x 3.5) look like what i need as i roughly measured the existing one at 40mm. thanks for the info, i am sure ...

Re: front brake master cylinder reservoir o-ring

good hondog, thanks for replying.
that's actually the one i ordered, and received, from the local honda shop. it's much too small at approx 27mm dia. it's for the single disk front brake system.
the one i need is something close to 40mm dia (two discs on the front, larger fluid reservoir).

front brake master cylinder reservoir o-ring

1982 aspencade ... having a hard time finding the part number for this because while the parts diagrams all list it (item number 17 ... it's larger than the one for a single disc system) none of them show it in the parts list. should i take that to mean 'don't bother, it's no longer available' ? if ...

any carb(s) that have been sitting for several years with gas in them are going to need complete service ... removal, disassembly, cleaning, certain rubber bits replaced (although i have had some success re-using the old parts i can't recommend it). there are guys here that do it professionally, alt...

Re: 2002 wing won’t crank. Turn key to on and lights , stereo come on but when I hit start button all goes dead.

sometimes a battery will give you some warning in the form of a slow crank. other times, yes, it can go dead without warning. you could probably get it tested at a parts store, but from the sounds of it, your battery tender is trying to tell you something ... assuming that your battery/solenoid/star...

you have already done the majority of the work, and if you follow the service manual it's actually pretty hard to get it wrong.
buy gates t274 or napa belts rather than a "honda" belt and save big money.

interesting read. i went out and checked what i have. the castrol gtx 10w30 that i use for lawnmowers contains the friction modifiers. the castrol gtx 10w40 that i bought specifically for the wings, does not, although i did not know it at time of purchase. unfortunately, i think both wings got 10w30...

Sman ... you guessed right. any carb that has been sitting for 5 years with fuel in it will definitely need to be removed/disassembled/cleaned.
