Re: Not riding? How do you keep yourself busy?

So far this year I have moved three full loads of wood chips, 3 yards of gravel and 10 railroad ties for various outside projects. I will still have another 3 yards of gravel and another load of wood chips. Over the weekend I built a rock path leading from the front yard into the backyard. It’s just...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

My new water pump came in yesterday and was successfully installed. This was probably one of the easiest jobs to do. I had already pulled off the fairing front cover and the lower cowl while investigating the leak. Drain the oil and the radiator fluid. Might be a good time to do an oil change, but i...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

I have yet to ever touch a 'Wing water pump, but in addition to the water pump shaft seals there's O-rings used in reassembly in there keeping the oil on the oily side of the pump and coolant on the wet side, Be careful on re-assembly, if either o-ring gets damaged you get rewarded with oil or cool...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Bank Angle Sensor is mounted to the sub frame for the luggage and trunk - It thinks the bike is standing on its front wheel! You can temporarily bypass it for testing. But doesn’t everyone store their bike standing on it’s front wheel? I solved it by dropping the backend. Thanks - Doug

Yup, those photos clearly show wet weep hole.... :(
Yay one more thing for me to learn. Hopefully I don’t need to pull off too much Tupperware. Pulled off the lower cowl and the section above that, looks like I will have access to all of the clamps and bolts

Thank -Doug

Re: 1993 gl1500A water pump

DougEFresh1123, I looked in my 1994 GL 1500 Service Manual and on page 5-15 under Water Pump, it says to "drain the engine oil." I hope that helps Frank Frank, For those of us that are not mechanical it doesn’t make sense until someone explains how the various systems are tied/linked together. My o...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Dunno, weep hole looks dry to me, those drips may be coming from elsewhere and running down the front of the pump. My '93 leaks from unknown source if it's been sitting a long while, once warmed up good the leak stops and is not seen again (until next long nap). Have you had yours out for a good ru...

Re: 1993 gl1500A water pump

Anyway, my question is why do you need to drain the oil before removing the water pump? I'm a new rider, but not totally lost in the shop; but also seriously not a mechanic...just good enough to do things once I understand what and why... please advise. :-) Thanks, According to my son, not a motorc...

Well this really sucks! My son says to me “Dad I’d really hate to say this about the Goldwing”. Which is usually code for some kind of silly joke. Not this time. Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

In additions after starting up the bike I noticed the rear wheel is spinning while in neutral. Is that a sign of a poor clutch slave rebuild? Nothing to worry about here, this is normal. The clutch is engaged anyway unless you are pulling on the lever. Even though the transmission is in neutral, th...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Doug, Talk about when it rains it pours. Man it sure seems to be pouring on you. Hope you get it lined out. And since I’m in the Chicago area we get snow on April 15th instead of rain. Oh well. I hope I get it fixed soon also. Maybe this weekend I can back the bike out of the garage and see if work...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

I just can’t buy a break. As some of you know I broke the front caliper lower mounting bolt, finally bit the bullet and ordered two of them for $3 a piece and paid $10 shipping. The parts came in and I reassembled the brakes and as I’m trying to but on the front rear fender cover o noticed the gromm...

Re: Not riding? How do you keep yourself busy?

Well the weather in Chicago has been spotty at best, and with both bikes needing new tires I really wasn’t able to ride even on the good days. I did get in one day of riding on the Magna at the beginning of March, to and from work a whole 20 miles. Was fortunate enough to get tires delivered and cha...

Re: Gl1500 1988 California model. Running vandalized

Do you by chance have any spare parts for the front brake caliper? I broke the lower mounting bolt, the part I I need is part #25 90105-MT8-000 based on www.hondapartshouse.com schematic for the front caliper. This is a 6mm x 25mm bolt.

Thanks - Doug

Some other simple things we have all forgotten, is the engine cut off switch in the Run position? Possibly bike is still in gear and clutch not pulled in. Bike needs to be in neutral to start.

Neutral light work?. Is it on? It can be hard to find neutral with no tires and not moveable.
Neutral light is on. I even changed gears to make it go off and come back on.

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Quadrupled checked the engine stop switch, triple checked the bike was in neutral, and double checked the kick stand was up. There was no difference in behavior if the clutch was pulled in or out. I have no real way right now to test if the bike is really in neutral since both wheels or off. But as ...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Good winter project. The clutch slave is a "missed" maintenance item and after some 20 years or so, gets a bit gummy. Have done ones on 1200s and they looked like yours - one even worse. The engine should start, no safety switch on the coolant side. The raising of the rear luggage shouldn't affect ...
