Re: '99 1500 Maintenance

Also, I keep reading on the forum about an insulation mat that's supposed to be under this thing. None here. Does anyone have a pic of that mat and how it goes in there??? Part#? Thanks. I wonder if this is the part you are looking for, part number 1 RUBBER, ENGINE HEAT GUARD 19050-MT2-010: https:/...

Re: Brake Light Modulator

have a look at this vid - Wpm-VJs4YN8 it may help you :D :D :D :D Thanks Wingdings, I'll watch the video but I don't recall seeing anything like that when I was working on the bike over the winter. However I think I solved the problem. After pulling off the trunk cover and testing the wiring and th...

Re: Brake Light Modulator

So, memory is the second thing to go. Seem to remember more than four. You were in the right place looking up at the levers for the trunk and saddlebags, above the license plate, they are in those recessed holes and have JIS/phillips screws. Those screws are uncooperative going back in BTW. Also th...

Re: Brake Light Modulator

OEM GL1500 has two brake light bulbs in the trunk and two lower on the rear of the saddlebags as you describe. Sounds as if a flasher has been added after the cable splits for trunk and bags. Most likely place is inside the cover on the bottom of the trunk where the release levers and the helmet ho...

Re: Brake Light Modulator

First, may seem to be a nitpick but brake lights have flashers not modulators. A modulator reduces from full power to partial power and is inactive in low light. Brake light flashers do not have this capability. Important to keep the nomenclature correct to help people understand what headlight mod...

Brake Light Modulator

In my haste to get the 'Wing back together I ignored the fact the brake lights were blinking whenever I turned the bike on and now I'm afraid I'm going to need to take it all apart to find the cause of this problem. Here is what I know: The PO didn't have the modulator installed but has stated the t...

Re: New Seat for the 'Wing

To the best of my knowledge it is a stock Honda Seat. I bought it on eBay from Everett Powersports. I've bought parts on eBay from these guys before, then it occurred to me that I could simply ride there and get the parts seeing that they're only a short ride away, doh! Lucky you, I don't hav...

Re: New Seat for the 'Wing

Looks good Doug! We use the OEM seat and I took the backrest off for the wife to have more room. Dave Thanks Dave, she does have more room, but the driver back rest had a pocket for her water bottle and phone. Guess I need to come up with something else to hold her water and phone, she wasn’t happy...

Re: Changing Timing Belts

Al I shared that same exact emotion after changing my timing belts. Like you I took on this project because of the great how-to section. There's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment of having something completely apart in pieces, then YOU put it all back together, fixed, and it works! :) Yes i...

Re: New Seat for the 'Wing

Looks real good, how much of a change in seating position was there going back to an original seat? Looks like you now sit a little higher. I feel a little higher, but I also feel like I'm sitting up straighter naturally instead of having the back rest pushing me forward. The most important thing i...

Re: Lifting the Bags to access rear wheel

I'm sure some has shown how to tilt the rear trunk and bags and sides with out removing from bike but never can find it. Is there a video showing how to do this? Watch the video in the post above yours. It does go kind of fast but it does work. I just did this process a few weeks ago and a couple o...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Begins

A great big thank you to everyone in this forum for all of the help provided to me while I embarked on my very first ever winter maintenance of a 1994 1500SE. As I have mentioned numerous times I am mechanically challenged. I took on this endeavor because of the very detailed "How-To" section with a...

Re: I'm feeling dark... new Austone Taxi Tire

Mine did that also - I read here that it is the inner fender contacting the tire. I was going to take everything apart again to deal with it, but we were having too much fun riding and I kept putting it off. After a while the noise went away so I figured the tire took care of the interference all b...

Re: GL1500 Auxiliary Shifter Pivot

Doug, I missed the mark the first time also. The gearshift arm is recessed on the inside and the shift spline is rounded on the outside enough for the splines to let go and I had enough room to roll it around without removing it. Dave Dave that is exactly what I was able to do. Looks much better no...

Re: GL1500 Auxiliary Shifter Pivot

Mine didn’t want to come off either, but I used a long screwdriver and pried it off. I used it to pry it back on also. It didn’t hurt anything. I believe you can back it off enough to turn it without taking it completely off. Dave Thanks Dave, I will keep that in mind when I get back to working on ...

Re: GL1500 Auxiliary Shifter Pivot

When i did mine, the shifter didn't clesr the frame either. I grinded it down so it would fit the next time. I made a shifter pivot myself btw If i need to take it off completely I will grind it down, I'm guessing its only about an 1/16 of an inch or so. That's awesome you made your own brace, I'm ...

GL1500 Auxiliary Shifter Pivot

I seem to be having an issue with this pivot brace, I followed WingAdmins how to and the instructions sent with the brace. It appears when the brace is installed I don't get the spacing the picture in the how to shows. When putting the shift pedal back the shifter is blocked by the crash bars.
