Re: Buying a used 2000 SE 25th Anniversary Edition?

Well that is a bummer. Not sure if you are on Facebook, but I've had good results shopping their Market Place. Not sure if this is anywhere close to you, but it looks good from the pictures and the seems to be in your price range: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/621519135318298/ Good luck ...

Bank Angle Sensor is mounted to the sub frame for the luggage and trunk - It thinks the bike is standing on its front wheel!

You can temporarily bypass it for testing.

Neutral light work?. Is it on? It can be hard to find neutral with no tires and not moveable.
Neutral light is on. I even changed gears to make it go off and come back on.

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Quadrupled checked the engine stop switch, triple checked the bike was in neutral, and double checked the kick stand was up. There was no difference in behavior if the clutch was pulled in or out. I have no real way right now to test if the bike is really in neutral since both wheels or off. But as ...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Good winter project. The clutch slave is a "missed" maintenance item and after some 20 years or so, gets a bit gummy. Have done ones on 1200s and they looked like yours - one even worse. The engine should start, no safety switch on the coolant side. The raising of the rear luggage shouldn't affect ...

Re: Buying a used 2000 SE 25th Anniversary Edition?

First off glad you are okay after your accident. The owner said that he takes it out once a week just to keep it going, but can't ride it regularly because of back surgery last year. I'm not much of a mechanic but this line helps alleviate the fear of having gummed up carburetors. Not sure how mecha...

Re: Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Got the rear tire off, and also rented a radiator pressure test kit from Auto Zone. Not sure if anyone has utilized their rental program, if you haven't I highly recommend checking into it if you know you are only going to use something once or twice. For $100, I was able to rent their Powerbuilt Ra...

Doug's Winter Maintenance Part 2

Hello folks, it's been awhile since I've been able to do much to contribute to the group. Now that winter is almost over thought I'd take a moment to talk about the work I have been doing or still plan on doing to the Goldwing this winter. It all started on a cold night in early January 2020, first ...

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder overhaul

Thanks for the info.

I had to replace my alternator in September, and the replacement is a bit bigger and was a tight fit.

After getting my son involved and using a flashlight I found it and I will be lifting the bike up off the ground and securing it via straps and jack stands.

Thanks - Doug

Hello folks. This winter I am going to be doing the clutch slave rebuild. I have read through the article but since I’m an idiot when it comes to mechanical functions I have no idea were to find the clutch slave cylinder. Re: Engine guards bent?

No idea who made the factory guards Doug, or who actually makes the aftermarket ones, I believe one is not superior to the other though, I fitted aftermarket guards to my last Aspencade because they were too tarnished and pitted. Since they changed the style in 1997 will the older versions even be ...

A few questions about the post title, if I may. I have read through the excellent article on how to replace your U joint and/or driveshaft (https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30309). I know there are at least a couple of fasteners on there that hold the rubber bellows in place - is it possible they are for that purpose? It's been a while since I had mine apart. You should always plan to replace the dampers when you replace the alternator. They get hard over time with heat from the engine.
Thanks - will add to my list of items to purchase.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks Trip Part 3 of 3 (aka Charging Issue)

I pulled my alternator out and am in the processes of finding a replacement. Based on a few threads it sounds like I should go with a 90 amp alternator. Re: Lake of the Ozarks Trip Part 3 of 3 (aka Charging Issue)

Well good folks, finally got around to trying to start the Goldwing. She has been on a battery tender for 2 weeks now. Re: Lake of the Ozarks Trip Part 3 of 3 (aka Charging Issue)

Your 1500 does have a stator but is internal to the alternator. If an OEM alternator on your ride the likeliest failure for it would be the brushes then the diodes/regulator for your year. The windings on the early years held up well. Thanks CT, I discovered this while looking at the parts fiche. I...

Easy. A 1500 has an alternator.
After posting I took a look at the parts diagram and see the stator is internal to the alternator. Hopefully its just a bad connection somewhere along the line.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks Trip Part 3 of 3 (aka Charging Issue)

Those symptoms indicate to me that your charging system is not working. Get the battery charged up and then when you get the bike running, put your voltmeter on the battery terminals and see what it reads. With the rpms up around 2k or so, you should be seeing somewhere around 14 volts at the batte...
