Re: windshield vent removal

I think If I remember when I replaced my vent, you take the front piece off first and then the back side. And to free up the lip, I used a old stiff credit card slide it between the lip and the windshield. No scratches or anything left in the wake.

Re: The Rear Suspension Pre-Load procedure

I just adjusted my 2005 Rear Shock, today. I could raise and lower the shock settings without the engine running with the bike on center stand. I could also raise and lower the settings with engine running in neutral bike off center stand and me on it holding it up. Today, I followed Fred's video (n...

Re: Scissors or Bottle Jack, lifting rear of an 1800?

Ride the rear wheel up onto a 2x6 about 9" long. That will help with the center stand. Also adjust the rear shock to it's highest setting, that will also help lift the bike. I have a motorcycle jack and with the rear tire flat and the fact that I've lowered my bike by 1 3/4", I can not get...

Re: RPM range at 70mph, where should it read?

I also have a 2005 and yes, 3000 RPM is about right for OD at 70 mph. That is if it has stock 180x60R 16 rear tire. You will eventually notice that the Speed and miles driven is a bit higher (6%). So if you are doing 70 you are actually doing about 66mph. The best way to correct this is with a speed...

Re: 03 GL1800 Radio Antenna Connector Location ??

The CB is located in the trunk and the antenna cable to it leads to the trunk. Only the cable wires to control the CB is under the seat behind the relay box. I don't think I would use that mechanic anymore. As many times as I have removed my top shelter on my 2005, I've never broken a wire or had an...

Re: need help getting the correct wiring

I replaced all my rear stop and run lights on the rear with LEDs and that saved a bunch of amperage draw. If I was to add a trailer, I would make sure all lights were LEDs. In that way the trailer and bike lighting draw on the bike's wiring will still be lower than when stock. My six stop/tail light...

Re: Gl1800 coolant tank removal

I can not believe the complaints about Honda's design for the air filter placement. For God's sake you buy a touring bike with all the bells and whistles and you want everything to be handy to get to. Be lucky they didn't put a fuel tank on top of the engine like the crotch rockets and the air filte...

Re: Handlebar wiggle

The Assembler of that bike at the Dealer did not torque the handlebars as directed by the assembly instructions. I know this from being an assembler for a Dealer here in San Antonio. It would not take much for the anyone to just tighten the bolts down yourself. On many lighter bikes it is okay to ti...

Re: clutch master cylinder

How many miles on the bike. I had 100,000 miles on my 1500 and pulled the clutch plates and they were still like new. I did help a friend put new seals in his clutch piston (forgot what you call it) down at the engine and we bled the clutch. It took a couple hours. Cost for the kit was about $40. If...

Re: How do you brake your Wing?

Ragincajun: Your old ways were wrong all along. Especially when coming to a complete stop. You should keep your foot on the rear brake until you complete the rolling stop. Then you put that foot down to help hold the bike up. Too many guys you see use only the front brake with both feet dangling off...

Yes, as I stated above, If you have the Sena Freewire and Sena helmet setup, all audio including CB is functional. You don't need to think about splitters with this setup.

I agree with it being a nice thing to scroll to hear the songs you want to hear on a particular day, etc. That is why keeping the J&M unit as a good thing and I am not getting rid of it. I organized my folders, pretty much to make it easy to do just that. Each folder's music is different from ea...

Re: Bluetooth & mp3 - check my thoughts

I have the J&M unit also. I have the 4 folders and basic folder with 95 songs in each. That is 475 songs. I play mine through the CD player and everything is just fine. But, I wish now, I had not wasted my money on that unit. Problem one was when the flash drive used went bad. Now, they are chea...

Re: Fred Harmon's DVD Maintenance Videos

I put 5 1/4" in as Fred's Video suggests. Took the bike for a ride and it seems to ride a little more solid up front. I'm happy except, I'm only 5' 6 1/2" and now I seem to be more on my toes coming to a stop than before. Interesting reading about fork oil, though. Progressive gives you a ...

Re: Broken tabs on rear front fender on a 2013

Not using the proper shoulder bolts will also cause a problem. Regular not shoulder bolts or too short a shoulder will allow you to pinch the plastic and crack it. I recently had my front half of the front fender off and carefully noted the shoulder bolts on each side. The top and bottom bolts were ...

This is a great article. Now, we all have to pass the test to get our degree. Email him pictures and instructions out of the Service Manual. Maybe my 2005 is the same, I don't know. But I'm sure the marks on the front of the cam must line up with marks on the engine and marks on the timing cover.

Re: GL1800 Speedometer/Odometer reading

Take the old cluster apart and check the odometer. It is not digital so I'm sure there is a pin you pull and can move all numbered wheels by hand. It won't hurt to try.
