Re: Tow Dolly Ready to Roll

I like it man. I love custom made stuff, i cant bring myself to buy anything, i have to make it to fit my purpose. Most times i end up spending more but what the hell, i enjoy fabricating things. I made a drift trike just for the hell of it and gave it to a friend who has 2 teenagers and they love i...

Re: Shipping GL1500 Engine

I doubt you will get any offers on that engine. Maybe someone needs parts and will buy it, but not to fix the gear issue. Having said that, last year i sold a 22hp lawn mower engine with a hole on the block, a rod got loose and it went flying through the block. Some guy gave me $50 for it. It goes t...

Re: Its gone, my 96 1500 SE

You live and learn. I want to try as many bikes as my pocket allows me, everybody has different tastes and expectations. I always thought the goldwing was not for me until i had the chance of riding one, apprehensively i must say. A friend of mine got one and he basically pushed me into the seat and...

Every bikes personality is different. Mine doesnt need choke at all in the summere, warm or cold.
In the winter it does, every time. If you bike needs choke even when warm just choke it. Dont think much of it.

Your radiator cap is bad, the spring got weak more than likely. Just replace it.

A grommet kit is super cheap and easy to install. And available. Do the string as insurance but i would strongly recommend new grommets

Re: louder exhaust sound

Thats what my Roadstar is for, loud vtwin. I would move heaven and earth for factory mufflers if mine ever rust out. You wouldnt put glasspacks on a cadillac would you? Having said that, its your bike. I heard they sound awesome with some open exhausts. Before you cut anything just mount the muffler...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

The wing is not for everybody. People have different tastes, and thats ok. I hate harleys for example. I have thought about a Harley, but I figure it would be a short, expensive love affair. However, with the prices of Harley's dropping as it is, if you ever wanted one, now is the time. Mid 2000's ...

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

Ok ok, lets pump the brakes for a second, How often do you have to take a goldwing apart? Its not like this is an unreliable piece of crap, its one of the best designs out there. It rarely needs anything other than an oil change. All the maintenance can be done at the same time. If you buy a motorcy...

Re: Engine Noise Identification

Sparkles like that are normal. The geartrain shares the engine oil so gears wearing normally would show up as sparkles. I was looking for noticeable pieces. Im not that familiar with the insides of the 1500. Its hard to judge sound through a youtube video. There is a way to check if a rod bearing is...

Maybe the alternator rubber dampers are bad.
Thats certainly a possibility, its a common issue on gl1500s.

Re: Engine Noise Identification

Remove rhe oil filter and dump the contents through a coffee filter, that should tell you if you have a bad rod bearing.
If you see metal flakes in the filter you definitely have something major.

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

Thats what it takes to make a motorcycle that truly has no comparison or competition. They were so far ahead of their time its mind boggling. You can ride a harley iron whatever its called and its as simple as it gets, it doesnt even have electric start. My point is it takes a lot of wiring, vacuum ...

Re: Dreaded rear tire replacement, the exhaust saga

Get yourself a little propane torch, it will make your life a lot easier. You dont need to heat the bolts to red hot. Just smoking hot and they should let go easier. Just get something with a narrow flame, to keep from heating unwanted surrounding parts.

Re: This is the most difficult bike I have ever worked on.

I dont know what the fuss is with the gl1500. Yes, you have to remove a lot of stuff to get to things, but it really is not that time consuming. The problem arises when you try to cut corners, trying to not remove something thats on the way because you can get to whatever you are trying to get at tw...

Just a tip, it takes a few miles for a new set of progressive springs to settle in. I thought they were hard as a rock at first but after a couple hundr...

I cant tell you how many people walk up to me and tell me they love the color. I wasnt crazy about it at first but it grew on me.
