Re: Slow air cutoff

I've taken the secondary air system off of both of my 1200's. It sure does make removing the carbs a lot easier!

With all the good-bad information about Sabre Cycle on the internet, I am surprised that people still buy from them.

Re: 1987 1200 Interstate Rear Wheel Change

I have followed your recommendation and now I am stuck. How do you reinstall the boot? There is no access, especially to the inner side. It is so frustrating working on these bikes, you get going along and then you hit mission impossible. I was worried about getting the swing are apart and that was...

84 pulse generators are not in the front of the motor... they are in the rear like the 1100.

Re: Swop over 84 engine to 86 engine

Thanks, the only wires/coming from the front is the same as the one on the 84.I presume that it's for the gear indicator, so should there be others coming out of the front? I will post some pictures of what is there tomorrow. bit, dark at present. Appreciate your help thank you👍 How many wires are ...

Re: Fusebox accessory hookup?

Accessory fuse should be 5 amp from the factory. To answer most of your other questions, you will need to trace the wires from the fuse box to determine exactly where they come from. It's hard to know exactly where (or why) the PO may have ran wires to. The same goes for the pimp lights. Usually tho...

Nothing from the aftermarket world will mount up exactly, but with a little effort, any electronic tach and mechanical input speedo should work as long as the gearing for the speedo is correct.

Re: lowering a gl1200

I am currently experimenting with a set of 1100 Progressive spring shocks on the rear of my 1200. The only thing I needed to change was the size of the bushing spacer in the lower side of the shock. This lowered the rear of the bike about 2 inches. The only problem I have had so far is getting the b...

Re: Gl 1200 headgasket

Heads shaved... no. When I got the heads off and everything cleaned up, I laid a good straight edge over the surfaces and luckily everything is straight and true. Trouble getting the heads off... nothing that a few taps with a rubber mallet didn't take care of. Doing both... probably isn't necessary...

Same as yours... 87I. I got my parts in the mail yesterday so I will be starting to put things back together later this week or next week. It just depends on how much time I get away from my wife's big project... renovating a bathroom.

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

Temps don't really matter to me except when there is moisture on the road. If the roads are wet for any reason and the temps are below freezing, the bike stays parked. If the roads are dry but the temps are 16 degrees, I just put an extra layer on and wear the full face helmet rather than the 3/4.

Re: tank bags

I have a 24 liter Vetter tank bag that mounts with a harness system.

Getting the harness on can be a bit of an issue the first time, but the amount of space it provides is worth it.

Re: Like to put a 84 gl1200 in a 83 gl1100 frame

Electric fuel pump wiring, output shaft (unless you also change to the 1200 swingarm and drive shaft) and convert the bike to a hydraulic clutch or convert the engine to a clutch lever. I'm not sure about the ignition because I used a C5 ignition when I did it, so I didn't need to worry about the ec...

I assume you mean the spacer that goes inside the final drive.

Where or how were the spacers mounted on either side on the brake caliper bracket on the left side of the wheel?

Re: rear brake rotor replacing

Several other tricks, it just depends on what you have available. You need to get the rear of the bike high enough that you can roll the rear wheel/tire out. So what do you have available... A lift? A come-along? Jack stands? There are even some that use a blanket and lay the bike on the ground...

Re: rear brake rotor replacing

Just the rotor? Pretty simple as long as you don't need to mess with the master cylinder or caliper. Remove the rear brake caliper - do not disconnect it. Remove the wheel/tire. Remove the rotor from the wheel and install the new rotor. Reinstall the wheel/tire. Compress the rear brake caliper so th...
