Re: Rubber meets the road -

hi - looking for bad ass tires - try these for size - sorry to say those tires wont fit the his 1500 and would be a very poor choice for such a heavy bike. Do a search on this site for Darkside tires, you will have hours of reading to keep you busy. There are endless opinions on using a "car tire" ...

Re: Starter

I have found that with thicker oils, when it starts to get cold the sprag clutch tends to slip more. If it restarts just fine after warming up then by changing to a lighter oil say from 20w50 to 15w40 or if its getting really cold down to 10w30 usually fixes the problem of the slipping starter. Thic...

Re: Stuffing a 1500 rear end in a 1200....

The lower cost is not the reason I do this, the vastly improved traction in all conditions is the main reason I run a CT. The only time I have ever slipped a CT is in the gravel, on pavement ,wet or dry ,accelerating hard or braking hard the CT has out performed every bike tire I have ever run . Th...

Ok ,I survived the trek through the snow to the back 40 where the 1200 is housed for hibernation. It was a tight squeeze to get underneath to take the measurements but I have the requested numbers for you. Inflated tire 6-3/4", General Tire Altimax HP Driveshaft clearance approx 1/4" (a pencil wont ...

Re: After rebuilding clutch slave cylinder, clutch wont disengage?

It is possible that the return port is clogged in the master cylinder. It is a very small hole, try a single wire from a wirebrush to poke it clear. Make sure you release the pressure at the slave or you could end up with an eyeful of fluid. 8-)

Hi again...RoadRogue, I have heard that tyres size is different once fitted to a rim and inflated so maybe that is the secret of your success!! I know it's winter and all but any chance of a measurement of your swinging arm width where the tire runs before I rush off and buy the wrong tyre?? I will...

What is the voltage across the battery while cranking? Ecm wont fire the plugs if volts are too low while cranking. 1500's require a strong battery. 8-)

Re: 1986 gl1200 wont run past idle

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Check the output of the fuel pump first. Then check to see if the fuel is actually getting into the carbs . There is a drain screw on the bottom of each float bowl, measure how much fuel comes out of each one. Did you check the float height when you had the carbs o...

It does not make any difference which yellow wire is connected to the other. Just make sure the solder joint is clean and bright, use double wall shrink tube to seal the joints. 8-)

Re: Motorcycle Trailer. This one worth it?

I had a very similar pod trailer like this one years ago, it followed me everywhere as if it wasnt there. The wheel size is fine for the weight you will be carrying. You can fit an amazing amount of gear in one of these. Mine was made out of injection molded ABS , with a swing arm style suspension. ...

Re: What fork oil weight 96 Aspencade with progreesive springs

I will chime in here and also say 15wt fork oil is a good choice, allows you to feel the road but not rattle your teeth on the big bumps. If you like that marshmallow ride then something lighter like ATF or 5wt fork oil if you can find it. Air is not needed with the Progressive springs but you can a...
