Re: starter that whizzzzzez

Mine did that yesterday. Is your bike in a heated environment? If not then it could be the cold. Put a heat source next to the starter (100 watt light bulb) The tabs on the starter get dry and cold and will not open up to catch the gears to start. Once the bike starts those tabs retract.

Do U need a 4" PULLEY for conversion?

I have been looking for a pulley for a year or so. Finally met up with Melvin who was having a pulley made for a very reasonable price. I contacted the machinist Greg who was doing the work. He made Melvin a pulley for a v-belt and mine with a serpentine belt. Greg said he can punch the pulley out i...

Re: Starter replacement

What bike are we talking about?

Take the battery cables off the battery. Take the hot wire off the starter. Be careful not to twist the post. Take the 2 bolts out and remove the starter.

You need to go to the right of the branch of wires. Mine was toward the air intake box.

Re: alternator conversion

How are you going to use the key way on the crank?

I had a pulley made and they screwed the key way up which led to my engine blowing up.

Re: update and questions

One bike to ride and the other to fix. You always have a bike to ride.

I have 2 extra windshields that came with the bike. They are shorter than the original. If interested give me a pm and I will send pics and measurements. They have been sitting in a box for the past couple of years. No scratches.

Re: New Member looking for a project

I like the 1100's. When mine died up in Alaska, I had to get another one. I did not think I would have to redo most of the bike when I got it. But I fixed what needed fixin. It is my main ride so yes it was worth it. I bought another 1100 as the paint and chrome are in "show shape". Here is my recor...

Here is a link to where I put all my maintenance and costs. I bought this 83 wing and had not been ridden in five years. I also added an exterior alternator.

Re: Where to find part?

google search shows several available: The part you found would work it is the same dimensions. Go to the Honda CAR parts dept and ask for both of the numbers you have. I get a lot of my bike parts from the car dealer if I have the number. It has surprised me of how many parts are used on cars from ...

Re: New question to an Old Thread

I know one is buried in the wiring harness. Located by the left knee. There is a branch that goes to the right side. Unwrap the harness tape by left knee and work your way to the branch. Buried in the wires is a diode. I had to replace as my neutral light never went off. I have not found this diode ...

Re: Wes's GL1100 Rear Shock Seal replacement VIDEO

Bob just did this replacement. Here is his cost Jan 2019.

The costs were as follows. Rear shock springs (Progressive, kit D) $65.00 (includes shipping), rear shock seals (Honda, $31.95, with shipping) and, 1 QT. ATF @ $4.95. If my math is correct, the total comes to approx. $101.90!

Re: Engine temp issues after pump replacement

You do not need to be sorry for the details. It helps all of us to try and help you. With the new pump your engine is probably running more efficient and the meter is showing this. Put some white talcum powder over the area you think the leaks is coming from after the engine is hot. Leave it overnig...

Re: Rebuilding my 81 gl1100.

If I was to replace the engine again for my 83-I. I would replace with an 80 engine.Better torque and power with the 80 engine.

80 or 83 engines are plug and play. The hardest part of engine removal is that damn cir clip on the drive shaft.

My engine had a bad knock and finally gave up the ghost. I got a very good engine from a salvage yard in Wisc for $600. Get a used engine and if you want dig into this engine and get it fixed then sell it. Getting a different engine will allow you to ride in a week or two. It will take you a while t...
