Re: Rain Repellent for GL1800 2012 Windscreen

Standard RainX will fog some plastics and if the windshield has a hard coating like a GL1800 windshield, permanently ruin it. I go to the local HD dealer and they have Rain wipes that work pretty good. And with HD ,theyre like WalMart in the fact you can always find a dealer wherever you go.

Re: Sta-Bil

I use a TC3W rated two stroke oil in my lawn and snowblowers and occasionally toss a couple ounces in the wing. TC3W is ashless and wont clog catalytic converters. In the wing it seems to help keep things clean and run just a hair better. Heres a rating system for 2-stroke oils. http://www.oilspecif...

Re: Front tire on a GL1800 champion trike

I've been reading up on the Avon trike tire and the AV71 and the Am71 are talked about. Both are supposed to be front trike tires and of my size. But so far I have not found anything telling me what the difference is between them. The AV71 is the one mentioned the most, does anyone know what is dif...

Re: Front tire on a GL1800 champion trike

Ive had both the MPA and the BT45 on the front of my trike and theyre both good tires. A lot of trikers like them for their great price and mileage they give for the money. But theres a new tire out there now. Avon entered the trike market with their trike specific front tire. The numbers for mileag...

Re: Storage for winter

I must be pretty lucky so far as Ive had no rodents in the trike -knock on wood. Usually I clean her and wax her up and do the usual oil change with filter and such. And after all the fussing on her I put a large foil turkey roasting tray whose bottom is filled with moth balls under the engine of th...

I would also check the main fuse. Sometimes corrosion builds up and it doesnt look like much but it can cause issues,or possibly its blown.

Re: Cruise Control, set switch

If you have the original fork springs theyre probably shot. Theyre cheap to replace. You might also look at pulling your levers and checking the pivot pin bushings to see if theyre worn. Sometimes worn bushings can cause this same issue.

Re: New tire and Centramatic balancer

Unfortunately with the Centramatics per Jeff the MPA needs to be run at 41psi. Ive never had any luck with the MPA and Centramatics . Ive had 2 that have cupped. One at 12,000 and the other around 17,000. Right now I have an Avon trike tire on my bike and the ride and handling is light years ahead o...

Re: New tire and Centramatic balancer

Is the vibration at a certain speed? Ive had 2 MPA's and they had a tendency because of the tread design to give some vibration or buzz to the handlebars between 25-35 mph.

Re: Reeses peanut butter in clutch reservoir

I bought an 86 1200 with low miles some years ago and the clutch reservoir had the same thing. Unfortunately I also found the same in the slave cylinder on the back of the engine. I wound up taking them apart and cleaning it all out and also flushing all of the lines clean. The downside was undernea...

Re: LED Foglights

Im not being a smartass but you can get lights to be seen such as Honda's or Showchrome. You can get somewhat brighter like EC's or BIKEMP3's ones with I believe 1, 4, and 6 LEDs. And then theres some you can install you cant turn on except on dark roads at night because of the daylight they create....

looks like a Ural to me. Old time style Russian Ukrainian engineering for toughness and some 60s style maintenance. Had an aquaintance who had one. He said 50% riding ,50% fixing and you better be a decent wrench turner to own one.

Re: HEATED SEATS & GRIPS

If its the seat and the grips I would also check the plug below the dash by the ignition switch. Make sure theres no corrosion and bent pins or pins that have pushed back. The heater controls for the seat and grips run through this connector so I would make sure to take a good look.

I just purchased a 2003 GL1800 and I would like to put some decent grips on 'er. My problem is I can't seem to find any info on installing Kuryakyn ISO GRIPS on an '03 GL1800 WITH HEATED grips. The only Kuryakyn grips I see, say they fit the '06 and up but nothing as far as '05 and down! It is rath...

Re: polishing a windscreen

Well Ill tell you that if you use Novus no2 and you open a bottle of Meguiars crystal polish you'd swear the Meguiars was a thinned down version of Novus. But a lot of the so called polish cleaners (more like polishes) like Novus 1 and Plexus and 210 spray polish basically have a compound that fills...

Re: polishing a windscreen

One of the new things I tried was a product called FLITZ. I normally used it to polish my billet wheels on the trike. So I tried it on the wind wings as theyre 8 years old. Seemed to work well so I tried it on the windshield. Works really well and I guess what they put in it to protect the wheels fr...

Re: polishing a windscreen

Theres a couple of different products that are really good for plastic windshields. Meguiars PlastX,Novus 2, and Meguiars Diamond crystal polish. The Meguiars Crstal polish is similar to Novus 2 but a tad finer in grade. Biggest thing before cleaning is to make sure you thoroughly clean the windshie...

Re: couple of questions - seat height/mod

What you could also do is measure from the bottom of the triple tree to the top of the fork seal on both bikes forks to see if possibly one of them has aftermarket springs in it. My trike with either Progressive or Traxxion was at least 1-1.5 inches taller with the aftermarket springs. I started wit...

A few years ago on my way to the west coast I made a gas stop. Had my Ipod in the left pocket along with my power plug that was occupied by the GPS power plug.
