Re: Japanese Industrial Standard Screwdriver - How to make

Rejuvenation of an old post for more recent members troubled during restoration of their Honda.

There is a reason why you find those screws are damaged.

JIS for pipe threads

I have previously written about the JIS for screws; essentially a cross head resembling Phillips with a metric thread. ( http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15547 ) In attempting to install a oil pressure gauge on my 1972 cb350f I fell down another rabbit hole and found another JIS, this t...

Re: Clutch removal GL1100

Correction. Rear wheel removal is NOT necessary. All bolts are 10 mm. A selection of sockets and xtensions and ratchet wrenches will come in handy. The tricky one is the long case bolt at 1 o'clock. Remove and install first. The others are much easier. Best tip is to clean up the cover and centre st...

Clutch removal GL1100

(Not sure if here, or GL110, or "How to" is best place. Admin move as you think best) clutch slipping ... time for refurb. Honda has proprietary tools to remove clutch (Photo in Manual page 9-6.) I am sure there are other ways to do this. Here is one way. Of course this all takes place on the bike a...

Re: starter on 1982 Aspy

The clutch is not engaging. Look up sprague clutch on this site. There are several solutions that do not require engine removal and $1500 labour.

Full disclosure, I bought my low mileage 1983 wih this problem for cheap and am still riding it.

All the best.

Re: Volt meter hook up

You posted a 2 wire voltmeter. The 3 wire uses the 3rd to power the display only. The display drains a bit of power. That can access any low voltage switched power source. The other 2 should run to whatever you wish to measure, perhaps the battery voltage. Useful to have that fused as well. The lcd ...

Re: 1980 GL1100 front brake master cylinder reservior cup screw.

If the diaphragm and plate are still present one missing screw is insufficient to cause leaks. The 4 screws just hold the cap down.

Is it missing ?

Part 45520-422-026 diaphragm
Part 45521-422-006 plate

Re: All 3 Brake Calipers Drag - Lock Up

"brakes free up when they cool" - implies only heat-induced expansion and friction.

Need to open bleeder to demonstrate hydraulic involvement.

Re: All 3 Brake Calipers Drag - Lock Up

Does the lockup cease with opening bleeder?

If yes its hydraulic pressure.

If no its the calipers.

Awaiting outcome of this.

Re: handle bars weights

In addition to adding mass to the steering column it affects the perception of vibration in the grip. In other bikes this is a much more significant issue. Think paint shaker and imagine how a resonant frequency in the bar will become an irritant. Many other dedicated bike fora, such as the bmw s100...

Re: Replacing a pristine 15 year old tire with a plug?

Thanks for comments. It was my intention to replace both front and rear by virtue of the age alone. It seems these tires were put on just when the bike was retired with low mileage (pun intended). I think the head gasket went. Tires are real pretty, black with white lettering with the nubs still vis...

Replacing a pristine 15 year old tire with a plug?

So I missed this summers riding. Not sure my contributions to the forum were missed, but here is the story. The question is at the end. May 1 I was cruising in the inside (fast) lane of the divided expressway. A long sweeping right hand turn with traffic lined up in the right lane when I had an unpl...

Until you get the hang of it, leave the side stand down push from the left. Let the stand brush the road until you have the feel of it. Sitting on it pushing back is awkward and near impossible with a slight incline. Or have I misunderstood your question?

Honda small fours CB350f

image.jpg I guess I am fond of tinkering. It began as curiosity with the model T's and now anything 30 years old is about broken in. I have a special fondness for the little multicylinder Honda. (8 x2) 16 for 8mm
(8x3) 24 for 10 mm
(8x4) 32 for 12 mm

You may have balanced them at low rpm but higher flow amplifies a leak. Run with it at stated rpm, then cut ignition and pull plugs. Is there a difference between left and right side? If so time to go hunting for a vacuum leak. Poking around with a small nozzle on propane or acetylene torch might fi...
